I had a problem with my Whirlpool Cabrio(top load) washing machine which is not draining so I google for a technician near my place. Found this company On-Time which has apparently has some good reviews. The guy that I talked to said that they can come the same day, and yes the technician came the same day and he was prompt. He even called that he was on his way.
After asking me some questions he then pushed some of the buttons on the control which shows that it was not working. He then took his screw driver and open up the washer to show the control board on the back. Hmm! He didn't even bother to run a diagnostic to check what error codes will appear on the display. Anyway, after checking some wires on the control board, he got out to get his phone and called somebody, gave the model no. of my washer and then told me that my washer needs a new control board. He told me that the new control board will cost $360.00 and added that he will take out the $45 fee for coming and looking at the washer from the cost. So, $315. Still not good since I can get a new machine from sears outlet for that price. Total time the technician spent in my house from entering the door to writing a receipt was probably 10mins. I was left with still a broken washer and $45 less.
After he left, I checked online for that part (control board) that he said and saw that the part was only $168 in amazon. To make the story short, I ordered that part put it on the machine and voila, machine still doesn't work. (Argh! that technician diagnose my machine wrong).
I went back online and searched on how to repair my Whirlpool Cabrio with a problem of not draining. I came to some forums and youtube on how to fix it. Well, I was already decided to buy a new washer so I will not really lose anything if I open it up myself. When I run the diagnostic (which the technician didn't do) it tells me that something is wrong with the drain pump. That's the part that I need to look first but before that, I have to drag the washer from inside the house to the garage with probably about 5 gallons of water that I couldn't scoop up since it was under the basket. I open up the back cover and turn the machine on the side to drain the water and also so I can have access to the drain pump. When I was on the process of removing the drain pump, I saw that there's a lose wire that connect to the bottom of the pump. I stripped the wire, connect it back, put the machine upside and drag it back to the laundry room, connect the water hose, plugged it in, pushed the power button and there you go, problem solved. Packed that part that I ordered in amazon and send it for return.
So for this review, I will give that technician 1 Star for wrongly diagnosing my washer, not even bothering to run a diagnostic test. At least he was right on giving me a receipt. For On-time Appliance, here's my receipt no. 381517 so you will know that I'm not making this up. read more
