I've been to this local range several times, and unfortunately each visit has been disappointing enough that I now choose to drive to other ranges instead. On multiple occasions, both over the phone and in person, the staff came across as dismissive, unwelcoming, and unprofessional. At times, their attitude felt condescending and created an uncomfortable environment that did not feel inclusive or respectful to all customers. I believe accountability and safety are extremely important in any firearms setting, but that should never come at the expense of basic customer service, professionalism, and respect. I hope the owner, Greg, takes this feedback seriously and considers addressing staff conduct, because consistent behavior like this reflects poorly on the business overall. I've shot at On-Target probably ~30 times. They're fantastic for beginners; hyper diligent range marshals keep newbies from making mistakes, classes are strongly encouraged, and the staff is eager to give advice and will often offer free shooting technique tips. The issue is...once you become a more experienced shooter. OnTarget forces you to get a 'rifle card' if you wish to shoot anything higher caliber than a carbine at their range. (Which requires a paid class at specific hours on specific days of the week) I brought a family heirloom rifle to this class with the intention of sighting the rifle's scope. Due to some bad advice from an instructor at OnTarget whilst trying to 'pass the shooting test' during the class, I scoped my own forehead and have a permanent scar. (Finished the class while bleeding everywhere) The fact that OnTarget is asking me to requalify for a 'rifle card' after their rules blatantly led to me getting hurt is ridiculous. I understand the reasonings for this rule, but it's frankly a sledgehammer policy. Even if you pass their test, your individual family members must as well...which might be impossible for health/scheduling reasons. This will force you to drive to Santa Ana or LA to shoot with your friends/family. To OnTarget: if your members have CCWs (especially if they received training at your store) and have previously passed your 'rifle card' classes, stop financially gouging them.... and seriously think about folks who are coming in to try shooting rifles for the first time. Prices are expensive for basic range time, too. The gun/ammo stores are 'fair'. Parking/cleanliness are fantastic. OnTarget is my second choice for everything shooting-related. read more

I'm not a big fan of indoor ranges, but On Target is the exception because it's run very well and safety is important here. Today was my first day at the range, I signed up as an annual member for several reasons. First and foremost I can go as often as I want. Second, the staff is professional and helpful. I took advantage of the FREE transfer option when I purchased my 1873 Great Western II by Pietta from EMF. I'll definitely be taking full advantage of the shooting range. 1.Went to buy ammo on sale and was told all sold out in one day! Was told members buy 4 cartons at a time- bad management. They should restrict to only 2 per member so other members can avail of the sale. 2. Range target clips not maintained well. They don't clash paper targets firmly. Clips need replacement 3. Membership dues increased to 385 annual each renewal also. Renewal were 250 or so last year incentive to retain older members. Now they are after more money and no renewal discounts. Perhaps they have members and don't care anymore for renewal discounts 4. Used to be a customer friendly place b4 but with new people the attitude to customers have changed. This is for Greg the owner. I came into on target with my buddy to practice. I step into the shooting area which could be design better. Anyway.. I was not in the area for not even 10 min. This worker came up to me and my friend. My bad I took my gun out of my bag and placed it on the counter next to the window. This guy pulls me into the room before you go into the shooting area to tell me put your gun on the counter again and you will be asked to leave. I'm black and my buddy is Hawaiian. I feel we were profiled cause of our color. I never felt so humiliated in my life. Why couldn't he just said please put your guns next to the shooting window. Also, something felt off when we checked in at the counter. This guy checked us in then 10 min later he is in my face. That day was not good. I really hope some of your staff don't profile people of color. read more

Hard to compare shooting ranges because this is the first one I've been to in over 25 years but it was a good experience. The first time you come here, you need to fill out some information on a computer kiosk which will take you some extra time. They are sticklers for gun handling on the counter and only pointing the barrel down range which is basic firearm safety. I didn't count but I recall about 8 lanes or so. The first time I came, there was only 1 target clip so it was a little tricky to get the B-27 silhouette to hang right. The second time I came, we had double clips so I could hang the target evenly on both sides. I came on a weekday afternoon so it was pretty sparse. Reviews are going to differ based on personal experience obviously. However, when I read the less than favorable comments regarding On Target, they are usually regarding the way that people perceive the staff's conduct. I've read descriptions ranging from grumpy to extremely rude. I would like to share my thoughts on the matter and I direct these comments to those people out there that have taken the time to write these remarks. Shooting is serious business that requires the staff to be vigilant, constantly aware of everything that is going on. I'm sure that every member of the On Target team has had their share of encounters with people that do not appreciate the profound nature of shooting a fire arm. Keep in mind that one misstep, one safety violation could have fatal consequences. We're not playing with Nerf guns, we are engaging in a very serious activity. When I go to a range, I am not expecting to be pampered, I am expecting to be surrounded by like minded people that understand that shooting is truly a life or death situation. Inclosing, I abide by the principle, that what you put out, is generally what you will receive. If you are a new shooter or a seasoned warrior, be humble and respectful. Never arrogant or rude. The two instructors today for the beginner class were both amazingly patient and helpful. I would not hesitate to go here for new people wanting to get proper training. I've shot before but never had proper training. I'm now way more comfortable about handling a gun and also no more fear about loading magazines. I wasn't too good but my instructor was very encouraging and taught me all the things I needed to improve on. Sad to update my review, but it is what it is. In my review from 11 years ago, I said that the staff was gruff and 11 years later things haven't changed. I've never actually purchased a gun at On Target and I finally did 10 days ago. I've shot, DROSd, taken classes, but never purchased until now. The employee who sold me the gun was pretty dry, never did find out his name. Just pure transactional. Mind you I'm not looking for any handholding, but a little bit of courtesy and general good cheer goes along way. Things were normal as a gun purchase goes and we buttoned it up with the final paperwork where he highlighted the earliest time I can come pick up the gun 10 days and 24 hours to the minute from the right then, he even highlighted the earliest pick up time and I took a picture so that I would remember. Now, here's where the wheels came off the wagon. I made the mistake of returning to pick up at the time highlighted on the paperwork. And here's where this specific instance of On Target customer service evaporated. This is where the customer became like an employee who needs to do their homework before showing up. I walk in the door just after 6 PM and noticed that it's way emptier than I think I've ever seen it. The gun sales area is dark and as I look throughout the rest of the whole interior, I can hardly see any employees, maybe two or three. After walking in and looking for someone to help me for about 2 minutes, employee 1 finally says, "Need something?" So, I responded by saying what I usually do, "Hi, I'm here to pick up." His response was quick, dismissive and seems to ignore that I'm spending nearly $800 here...yet, I can't get as much as a, "Thanks for coming in today!" Instead, he just said "We don't do paperwork after 6". And so far, I'm obviously missing the memo that I'm a bad employee who hasn't read all the rules on the website, so I ignorantly reply, "Oh, I don't have to do paperwork. I already did it. I'm just here to pick up." He repeats, "We don't do paperwork after 6." And again, my ignorance is going to show when I asked, "Then why did the guy who sold me the gun highlight the time that I could pick it up, at 6:07?" Employee 1 responded, "Didn't you read the sign? No paperwork after 6. 6:07 is the earliest you can pick it up, but we don't do paperwork after 6." Well, OK then. I waited 10 days only to miss it by 7 minutes on a technicality. There is no wiggle room here. There is no, "Oh we're so sorry about this mix-up." There is no, "Man, we really appreciate your business, but... " And now I've got the customer-no-service blues. read more

I was here for a GLOCK professional armorers course. Great thing about this place is that it's right off the freeway (have fun getting back on during rush hour and all the construction), it has a couple sales areas and meeting rooms, not to mention six restrooms. I didn't check out their merchandise because of short class breaks but looks like a good range. First one I've seen that has a reception area and desk. I have never used an indoor range before but this was a great first go. I took my brother who was visiting from Jersey. We rented a Glock 9mm and picked up 50 rounds. They take all of the expected precautions and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely going to go back to get my lic and pick up a firearm so I can go back more often. I also intend to take my daughters so they can learn to shoot and handle a weapon, though I think I will pay an instructor to teach them. read more

As a complete beginner, I signed up for the women's handgun level one class at On Target and had the best experience. My instructor, Julie, was friendly, knowledgable, and made me feel comfortable and at ease right away. We spent time first on handgun fundamentals and practicing with a "dummy" model in their classroom and then moved into the shooting range once I was comfortable. Julie stayed by my side during the shooting, offering tips or gentle corrections to ensure that I was remembering all the safety guidelines and also to help increase my accuracy. I had a fantastic experience and could not recommend their women's classes (and Julie) more highly! I will be going back to On Target for sure! read more

At On Target, a staff person walks through the shooting range on a periodic basis to make sure everyone is following the rules. Some shooters sweep their lane when they are finished, others do not. On Target is the Go-To place for me and my wife. Whether it's for us to put some rounds down range, or for her to take fire arms lessons, or for us to do an FFL transaction, it's nice to have a great operation like theirs with a group of professionals and enthusiasts who know their business, the laws, and helpful with basic stuff. I've personally dealt with Blake for our two purchases, and Hunter and Austin for range time, and Heather for our FFL transaction and I can't say anything better about them. They're awesome!! Good to have them around. They're very helpful. Provide the safety courses you'll need to be knowledgeable on the use, maintenance, and safe storage of your firearms. CCW classes. Rifle use classes which I'll be taking in order to be able to use the CA compliant AR15 that I have and want to use at their range. I can't imagine where I'd have to go if they weren't so close to where I live. Recommend them whether you're an enthusiast, or just looking to learn about firearms and what the 2A is all about. Came here to get some additional guns added to my existing CCW. Staff were super friendly and everything was very smooth. Range masters were alert as to what was happening on the range, couple next to me were reprimanded and they deserved it so I have no problems with that. But other than that, they didn't constantly interfere like at some places. Lane prices were reasonably priced as was the ammo. Met the manager and got some membership information. Local is the only good thing! I have sore throat and cough from the range for day now and short breath. They do not have proper ventilation. Also concerns raised to the range get ignored such as this and range safety issues. Their metal target rods are bent and targets are not straight, they are dangerous as ricochet hit the metal often, there is shrapnel flying around a lot as well, would recommend anywhere else but here read more

I've been a member for over 4 years and OnTarget is the best range value in Orange County. 25 yard pistol, rifle and shotgun. Staff is very friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Safety is #1 when shooting and the staff will get on you for safety violations. As they should. I've shot at all the ranges in Orange County and all are louder except a private indoor where the dues are more than I pay for OnTarget membership and 25k rounds of 9mm. The private range requires pirchasi their ammo. OnTarget has good noise suppression for a busy indoor range. Going back to safety the range desk is staffed by knowledgeable shooters and they help new shooters at the desk and on the range. They remove unsafe shooters for safety violations. I've done many ammo and gun transfers. The staff is helpful and the fees are nominal for members. A final note is they support the military in their hiring practices. In read more

In terms of location and pricing, this place holds up to expectations of an indoor range. It's close off the freeway and there is plenty of parking either in the front or the back of the establishment. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and there was certainly a good amount of guests, but the associates checked everyone in very quickly and also got people to their lanes within a few minutes of arriving. The check in process was easy, as they have tablets (ipads?) with a waiver app to initial and sign for liability. Prices seemed fair for renting a lane, as it cost me $26.95 in total (not sure on time limit, but I had brought my own targets and ammo). I noticed the paper targets start at about 1-2 dollars per target, so it would certainly not be a big deal if you needed to buy targets at the range. The lanes themselves seem to use standard toggle switches to manually adjust the distance of the target. The range itself was very clean and the associates were very friendly and helpful with answering my general questions. I ended up signing up for the rifle card class as this is one of the few indoor ranges that allow for rifle use. The class itself was lead by Charlie, who was informative and placed a lot of emphasis with safety (as one should) and he also used drawings to demonstrate the reasons for certain range rules. At the end of the class, you have to pass the rifle proficiency test with 3 shots within 5 inches of one another. You can pay a small fee to rent a rifle with some ammo to do your qualifier or you may use your own rifle.
