Our experience with Olympic Rockery has been consistently superb. We first ordered a bunch of rock bubblers and bird baths and were treated so well and the delivery and installation were flawless. Shinda was great to work with. I didn't like the initial placement of some of the bird baths (mind you these are about a quarter ton each) and he graciously moved them for me. Our experience was so good that we decided to have them build a 150 foot long, 4 foot high rock wall for us, a major undertaking, and we couldn't be happier. The rock wall that needed repair was done fine. I was told that my yard would suffer damage due to the excavator. However I was not told that there was a way to mitigate the damage by using rumble mats. I would have been happy to rent those through another provider. I had no idea they even existed. Also they cut branches off a big tree in center of yard. I knew about 1 tree I would loose and expected that. It's costing about 1500 just to replace the dirt and roll it. We couldn't be more happy with our rocks & bird bath from Olympic Rockery! A great experience from the first time we visited the yard to delivery/install. This year we took on DIY landscaping project of our entire yard, removing the lawn in favor of a more dynamic and native landscape. As part of that, we wanted some large accent rocks. We visited a few different yards to source materials and Olympic seemed to offer what we wanted. We took note as we weren't ready to purchase yet, but the staff was friendly and helpful. A few months later we returned, ready to pick out some rocks and place an order. Again the staff was really helpful, and Sam was especially nice to work with as we were selecting rocks - lifting up and rotating the ones we pointed at to make sure we were happy with them. Rocks were weighted in front of us and we headed to the office to plan delivery. Cassidy was helpful in getting us set up and communication along the way and on delivery day. We did have a delay of one week from our originally scheduled date, but these things happen. On delivery day, Shinda and Cassidy arrived and we discussed placement and access. Shinda was very mindful of how best to access certain areas without causing damage to existing landscaping and hardscaping we had in place. He has a good eye for placement and expected my input when it came to getting it just right. I was actually stressing about it a few days before, wondering if I would sound nit-picky if I asked to rotate things, but it was a smooth experience. Both Shinda and Cassidy were just great to work with and we were just so excited to have our rocks and bird bath in place. Company is morally corrupt, forget what kind of job they do when they get there, look at it this way. By you doing business with them, you are putting the motoring public in danger. This company either chooses to operate unsafely or probably more likely they use defective equipment. Look at the pictures, they don't secure their loads and they shattered my windshield. They don't care about the the safety and taking care of their caused problem, think about when you're not happy with the job they do. Second Project! The first project I have Olympic Rockeries complete was to install a retaining wall in my back yard. They did such an amazing job, we called them back to create a patio space on the South side and back part of our property . They even installed a slab to create a potting bench on an old outdoor fireplace that was no longer able to be used as a fireplace due to King County code changes. There's a couple of themes you hear from the other reviews. 1. Shinda is da' man. 2. Olympic took a good idea, and made it into a great reality. I'll start by saying - it's true... We're in the homestretch of a whole garden do-over - part of the yard on a good slope that previously made it unusable, and we're sick of fighting the PNW grass/moss war. We talked to about a dozen different hard and soft-scapers, starting out as complete newbies. We put together a fairly detailed "what could good look like" rubric over the last couple of years to give to vendors. Looking to build patios, retaining walls, steps, and focal-point stonework. Most vendors were average to poor - we wanted organic and flowing, they wanted to throw up cheap blockwork that looked like an angular WW1 Somme fortress. Shinda's business approach is so different - think much nearer project partnership. First his advice was from an "If it was my house" perspective... Second, he introduced us to a range of great material choices, helped us dial-in our rubric and budget, walking us through stone-yards to find and select the right materials for our site, as well as introducing us to possible soft-scaping partners. His team worked with awesome equipment that enabled them to demo our whole site, construct/sculpt our patios and tiers, and skillfully place heavy steps, beautiful rocks, and stones walls with minimal impact to our site and neighbours. We typically had at least twice-daily great communication with his site-foreman Cy and our soft-scaping foreman, as they worked to translate plans into reality. The outcome was much better than I could have imagined. I'll post pictures when we're done... Highly recommended. I'd work with him again in a heartbeat. read more

I can't speak more highly of these guys. The owner literally gave us what feels like the royal treatment. I'm a new homeowner with a project house and a lot of work ahead. I've always dreamt of having a water feature and he made it happen. I let him know my budget and he instantly got to work, like a kid in a Lego store. Moving boulders, bubbler stones, pillars and all things fountain around into what seems to me, a master piece. He gave multiple options and taught us some very cool tricks of the trade. If you're into the whole brevity thing... call Shinda / Mike. You'll be more than happy with the quality of the work and very fair pricing. Now, We live in Beacon Hill and have hard a hard time figuring out what to do with our heavily sloped backyard. We had three other contractors come out and try and steer us toward block retaining walls, but we just don't care for the look. Finally, Mike from Olympic Rockeries came out and LISTENED!! He gave us a design option that met all of our needs (and then some), AND they helped work within our limited budget. We had 4 walls done, and it was a much bigger job than we anticipated, but you'd never know it by the way these guys operate. Super respectful of the neighbors by laying down plywood over all shared space, dropping off equipment and then taking the trailer back to their home base instead of eating up parking. In a time where I feel like so much is smoke and mirrors, Shinda, Mike, Gill and the rest of the team all did exactly what they said they would do. They are specialized. When we decided to tackle this complicated project we searched for a vendor and quickly realized that our project required very specific skills and equipment due to the slope, existing retaining walls and limited access. Shinda, the owner of Olympic Rockery, was extremely generous with his time as we began to plan. He came out several times to review the project, answer questions and explore options - many hours of uncompensated work before he was even contracted, yet we never felt pressured. They collaborate well. When we realized we wanted to get a landscape architect involved so we could address the rockery and pavers as part of the overall design, Olympic worked closely with them to make sure their portion of the project would go smoothly. They often contributed beyond the scope of their work and helped remove soil, transplant a large tree and position a large water feature when they saw that the use of their specialty equipment would cost less than doing it manually. They are committed to quality. We had ordered our materials nearly 6 months before the project began. During that time, Shinda became aquainted with a material he felt would be a better fit for us and gladly exchanged the materials. He also came back after the project was done and made a few tweaks that not only improved the project but made an unrelated project easier and less costly. They are professional. His crew was extremely professional, detailed, polite and highly skilled. Shinda checked on the project often and directed the more complicated portions himself. I was very impressed how he always took the time to explain to his crew what he was doing...you could tell his crew was skilled because he personally trained them. This was just a "feel-good" bonus during the project, but a good illustration of how this company operates. And, phone calls, texts and emails were answered almost instantaneously. They are respected. When the city inspector came for the pre-construction meeting and saw Shinda from Olympic Rockery he said "Oh, its you! There shouldn't be any problem here." The landscape contractor also pointed out the advanced equipment skills they had and noted that not many people could do what they do. They are budget conscious. This was not a straight-forward project. Many adjustments had to be made along the way because of wacky things thatexisted on the property. But everytime we came across a new challenge, Olympic adjusted accordingly and provided good suggestions to keep the project moving forward without dramatically impacting the budget. Olympic delivered and set over 12 tons of boulders on my property, as well as built a stairway from big rocks and changed the placement of rocks already on my property. It was wonderful to see how they transformed the landscape. The team worked with me; they had me over to their quarry and I was able to talk about the size, shape, and color of each boulder they were going to deliver to my property. Additionally, they had great ideas on placing these "big rocks" to maximize their impact and create a natural looking hardscape that my wife and I just love. Shinda designed and installed a beefy "alpine look" rockery for us a couple weeks ago. We are very impressed and already looking forward to working with him and Olympic Rockeries again for a few big reasons. To set the stage, here's what our project involved: Consultation: We asked Shinda to give us an estimate because we were planning to purchase small-ish boulders and build a rock wall ourselves. He came to our home and gave us that estimate (on a Sunday!) but suggested that he thought bigger boulders would look better for our project and gave us a quote for that option, with his team doing the installation instead of us. Project Completed: After thinking it over, we preferred Shinda's "bigger rocks" idea. So he installed an "alpine look" rockery (20-25 boulders, about 2 feet tall on average) in our front yard to finish off the completely unfinished bank we inherited when we bought our house. Before placing the rocks, he prepped the edges of the bank in a few spots where it needed to be dug back. He also removed a big chunk of aggregate driveway that was in the way of where we wanted the wall. And here's why I'm giving a 5-star rating: 1) Shinda is a rock artist. He looked at our project, had a vision for it, and executed it down to the final boulder-sized detail. Watching him maneuver his Bobcat was like watching a trained musician play an instrument. He'd place a rock, inspect it, spin it around, place it again, adjust the angle - the details seemed to matter to him at least as much as they mattered to us, which was reassuring. He even wanted to wash a couple of the boulders of before he left to make sure they looked as good as they could. His artistry even showed in how he handled the aggregate-cutting. Making just two straight-line cuts, he managed to complement the existing curved lines of the driveway so well that we've decided just to leave it rather than re-pouring a new curved edge. Despite the attention to detail, he still worked quickly. In fact, he and his coworker only seemed to take one short break (maybe 10 minutes) all day. 2) They showed real respect for our wishes and concerns. For instance, there was one part of our project where we wanted to minimize the thickness of the rockery so we could keep our driveway as wide as possible. Shinda brought several narrow boulders and checked with us as he placed them to make sure the driveway was wide enough. Also, he was careful with our trees. Now, admittedly, I'm kind of a tree nut... I know that they probably don't need to be treated as gently as I like to treat them... but I really appreciate that when I told Shinda about my concern for our trees, he was careful not to bump tree branches with the Bobcat and not to damage roots when he dug into our bank. 3) They did extra work. In addition to building our wall with the rock he brought, Shinda pointed out that we had several big, beautiful boulders halfway buried in our landscaping. We hadn't even noticed. But he pulled them up, repositioned them, and voila - our boring mossy rocks are now beautiful focal points in our front yard. He could have ignored this potential or even tried to sell us new decorative boulders; instead, he unearthed hidden gems for us, and didn't charge us extra. In the end, we ended up with a much cooler rockery than we expected to have, we paid exactly what was estimated, and all of my precious trees were treated gently. We contacted Shinda (owner) after seeing all the positive reviews his company has. We wanted to do a rock retaining wall on a water front cabin to prevent erosion. Shinda reviewed the pictures I sent him and offered several suggestions and made appointment with me to go onsite to review. Shinda was on time, professional, and really understood our wants/needs. Shinda expressed that our case would not need the expense of having a rock wall and could do lumber instead. This proposal allowed us to do two walls close to our initial budget. On the day of the project Shinda and Sabin assisted in ferrying over lumber via floating barge to the location. This was going above and beyond what I think most companies would be willing to work with as we did not have road access to that side of the house. Sabin and his teammate Carpino worked quickly to complete the project within 3 days and worked extremely well to communicate with my wife on her design/gardening needs. Sabin even took extra effort to allow our curious 6 year old to hang out while they are working hard. Anyone that can field that amount of questioning a child has and still produce such quality results is A+. We felt very comfortable with the entire work process and the communication was excellent on every level. Our walls are beautiful and just in time for planting season. We look forward to work with Olympic Rockeries again for another project next year. read more

Great team effort. We have completed "Phase I" of our project, which consisted of a rockery on the front of the house, a large rock outcropping on the front corner and then the rockery continuing around the side of the house on a corner lot. In the back, Olympic competed a "dry" river and stairway going up our steep hill to the upper part of the property. Shinda and the team are easy to deal with. Very straightforward and up front with no games or hidden charges. We discussed all aspects of the project and it came out as such. Benjamin is a master "rock placer" with the bobcat. Nice that after the main work done, they come back and smooth everything out, down to placing individual river rocks in our stream bed to enhance the aesthetics. Siban truly cares about their work and doing the best job possible. The bids we received for this work were fairly close between companies but Olympic was the most responsive. We ended up adding to the scope a little along the way and again, everything was straightforward and transparent, with Shinda usually quoting prices on the spot. Final invoice was accurate and as agreed. We plan on using Olympic again for "Phase II". Great job guys. read more

We live on a mountain and our backyard was really sloped. It was pretty but not really usable. So the project was essentially to terrace the backyard. At the bottom there was a 12 foot elevation change, formed by a slope, and then a 4 foot retaining wall, and then another slope, and then another 4 floor retaining wall. The top of this wall was at at the elevation of the large (about 35' x 50' ) flat area. So all that space had to be filled and leveled. Then there was were two more 4' walls to meet up with where the small back "yard" used to be, and that area had to be leveled. On top of everything they brought in topsoil, and some anti-erosion straw on the slowed. They also replaced an old path from the front around the side to the back yard. In the front with some pavers and on the side just crushed rock. The work required two bobcat excavators and a bulldozer, and quite a few (I think more than 20) dump truck loads, so it was a pretty large project. I was really happy with the results and the process. We came up with an original plan that would have provided only half of the flat area, at around half the eventual cost. In that proposal, they weren't quite sure where a certain pipe was going to be, but then when they started digging and found it, they realized it just had to be lowered, and when that was done, were able to move the wall in a favorable direction to increase the large flat space. Then they built the top two walls and started filling in to the point where the first plan was to end and start sloping down. When we got to that point, once I saw how nice it was to have a flat space, and was able to visualize what it would look like if it were a lot bigger, we decided to extend the plan to go all the way to the bottom of the hill. That ended up adding a lot to the cost, but it was a deliberate choice and I'm happy with the result. They had to work around my sewage and drain field, and a drainage easement at the bottom. It was really clear they knew what they were doing and were asking me about all these problems without me having to bring it up. They also were really careful about making a really solid foundation for the walls and diverting water carefully. Behind each wall they put drainage rock, and at the bottom is a pipe to catch the water and direct it away from the foot of the wall. Once they started work they didn't stop or take any breaks, except due to weather. (Although they worked some days when it was snowing just a bit.) I liked to ask a bunch of questions about what they were doing and how they made certain decisions and why they were doing this or that, and they took time to talk with me and answer these questions. Their big equipment did some damage to some existing irrigation pipes, and my driveway. That was not really a big deal to me, I mean you cannot bring in big equipment like that without running over some pipe that isn't buried very deep and crushing it, or finding out that the driveway has water under it, etc. They just fixed it without any hassle, and after they left everything looked really good. Oh and they let my kid operate the bobcat and pick up some dirt and move it around. :) read more

I would highly recommend Shinda and his company for high quality work.We were looking for someone to help with our backyard. I left tons of messages and still did not get any response from many of the companies. Shinda, the owner responded within minutes to my call and answered all the questions. He came, to my surprise 5 min earlier agreed time, which to me it was the first sign that he is very reliable and responsible person.He never was late! Within couple of days he came for the estimate , which was very fare and started to work right away to help us with the backyard. Despite his personal life, he did work on the day when he supported not to work, just because he promised us( I still feel bad for being so pushy). He worked very hard but very fast and efficient! He took stumps out and flattened our backyard. The team builded the rock wall, spending so much energy to place each and every rock in a certain way so it would look so beautiful. The rockery looks so elegant and curvy!!!!!Just beautiful! There were some rocks left after the main project and I wanted to use then to finish the older wall that was started long time ago. To my surprise;) I could not even push the rock. He and his team spend extra day just to do that rockery without charging any extra. No matter how picky I was , they were able to satisfy all our backyard needs and they did much more then we agreed to without extra charge! I would highly recommend him! In all seriousness we could not have been happier with this project. We called for a quote on Friday and Shinda was at our house Monday morning to look over the project. He got more than he bargained for because we only had a rough idea of what we were looking for. He took the time to understand our needs and then proposed solutions that would maximize the space. The work started on Friday and was completed by Wednesday. This time-frame included the two project changes that the team took in stride. There was a certain sense of calm throughout the project because we had the utmost confidence in Shinda and his team. Shinda and his crew did a phenomenal job building a rockery retaining wall and stone stair steps for us. We are so happy with the outcome. Shinda worked with our budget and gave us a very good price for the project. He is very patient to make sure we got what we want it. The retaining wall is beautiful! His crew did an amazing job building the stone stair step. They paid every close attention to details. They made sure every steps has the same level and measurement. They went back and redid each step until it was perfect....that's amazing! Shinda did additional work such as pulled out a few rotted tree stumps. He offered to pick up a few yards of top soils, something I hadn't thought about at that time, without charging any delivery fee. He pointed out a drainage problem that would damaged the foundation of our house. The crew spent over an hour cleaning up before they left. These guys are the best contractor I have ever worked with. Since this project was fairly straightforward, we were able to obtain estimates via photos and measurements, saving the up front visitation and design fee. This may not be the ideal process in all cases, but it worked out well for us. From the start we were very pleased with Shinda's responsiveness and clear communication, which was our top priority. We've never contracted a job of this scope, but the cost was less than expected, and we got a lot for our money. Once the crew kicked into gear, the project went fast and the crew's rock-setting skills were truly amazing. They also took care to protect our driveway and clean up and rough grade the site. As we had been advised, the lawn in the work area was wiped out, which was not a problem as we were planning to replace it. Our new rock wall is magnificent and a substantial upgrade to our property.
