I described the problem, noting that the AC circuit breakers had been triggered. After resetting the circuit breakers in the panel in the garage, the air conditioner still failed to provide cold air. Also, the fan in the condenser in the backyard failed to spin. Ed advised that his son, Chris, would service the unit in an hour around 1:00 PM. Chris arrived on time. I walked with him to the condenser in the backyard, and talked about the problem. Within 10 or 15 minutes, he told me about the source of the problem. The speed, with which Chris figured out the problem, really impressed me. The cause was that cable ties, in the condenser, deteriorated due to the exposure to the sun. Wires fell free, which made contact with a metal tube, resulting in arcing. The arcing burned a hole in a pipe, which then released all the Freon in the system. Chris serviced the unit for around an hour and a half. He replaced the damaged wiring harness. He sealed the tube with welding equipment. He loaded the system with Freon. He replaced the flimsy cable ties with something more substantial. He billed us for around $900. The air conditioner now worked, so I was a happy customer!
