Before You Hire Hilliard's AC... You MUST Read This!
This is the FIRST online review I've ever written in my life. Despite having bad experiences with companies in the past, none have been so outrageously bad to motivate me to spend an hour+ writing and editing a review...
I hired Hilliard's to install a new air conditioning & heat pump unit in my home a little over a year ago. I was advised by the tech SHAWN that my old unit wasn't holding coolant and the unit could be repaired or replaced. I chose to replace it at a cost of approximately $5,000. Immediately upon installation the unit stopped working the next day. The NEW unit installed needed a motherboard replaced.
At approximately 5 months after install, the unit was dumping water out into the insulated ducts attached to pump in the garage. The water damaged drywall in the ceiling that started to mold. Drywall was removed but NEVER REPAIRED. The wet insulation around the blower unit in the garage was replaced. I inquired about replacing the drainage line, but that was NOT replaced, and I was assured it wouldn't be an issue.
All of these fixes were things I asked for. They didn't suggest ANY SOLUTIONS - only EXCUSES.
This weekend, the unit AGAIN started dumping water into the surrounding insulation and drywall and has now run into the walls. The garage smells permanently damp and of mold. And has for 7 months. I doubt that's good for my longterm health.
I removed over 5 gallons of water from the machine on Saturday by shopvac. Almost 10 gallons on Sunday. And have already started removing water again this morning.
I called their answering service on Saturday and received a return call from tech Shawn. I explained the situation and encouraged him to relay a message to GEORGE the owner's son-in-law who I had dealt with for the prior problems. All I was requesting was a phone call to pacify me through the weekend so I had some assurance that I would not be left high and dry...well...wet.
I called this morning again at 08:09, and was told that he was on site. I asked to hold until he could be located. Instead, I was dumped into voicemail. Called back and was hung up on by one of the women answering phones. Called again and asked to hold. GEORGE talked "at me" briefly at 08:39 when I was yelled at and told that were unwilling to help me resolve the problem (that didn't exist prior to their work at my home) and I should seek out another vendor. He hung up on me.
I hired a new company to fix Hilliard's mess. More drywall will need to be gutted from my garage. There is damage to personal property. Water is running out of the sides of the machine in a steady drip. Gallons per day. None of this is acceptable!
I've also begun the process of filing formal complaints with all licensing and regulatory agencies in the State of Florida, as well as trade associations. I sent emails to all officers of the company this morning in hopes that one of them would choose to take an amicable off ramp. Radio silence to this point.
DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! Like most companies nowadays, they could only provide excuses that don't stand up to scrutiny... office staff, service tech, owner - all provide excuses for the problems. No one willing to own the problem and address it. Cowardly. At one point, I was even blamed for not knowing I should periodically climb a ladder to drain the AC unit myself. I've asked dozens of people in my community - and not one of them has ever been told to drain their unit. It sounded like an excuse then - confirmed after talking to other community members.
They do not stand behind their work and will give you the runaround if you have a serious problem. I will have THOUSANDS of dollars of damage to repair in my garage from their faulty install and unwillingness to resolve the issue. I'm just hopeful I won't need a new AC unit. I will post updates as this nightmare continues.
RUN, don't walk, away from this company as fast as you can!! read more
