If you have read some of reviews - I am always in search of the most perfect Ceasar Salad....and after the Bubba's fiasco - I was very disheartened on the gorgeous island of Kauai because although surrounded by beauty and the most fertile ground EVER - vegetables & salad were scarce in most meals. And then my friend, Barbara, while we were eating in Kountry Kitchen (see my other review) told me about the Olympic Cafe and their salads. Ok - it is in the heart of Kapa'a town and although we have visited Kauai since 2000 - we have NEVER even thought about going there. I dunno why - maybe it was the people hanging over the side looking down into the street, or the seemingly noisy atmosphere...? Well, we went to lunch at Olympic Cafe and I, of course, ordered their chicken ceasar salad (and a california burger just in case the salad was depressing) The salad came in a large bowl, with fresh shredded parmasaen cheese sprinkled all over, lovely chunks of grilled chicken breast and uber crunchy croutons tossed all through. Their was JUST enough salad dressing laying on each crisp piece of romaine lettuce - and it was all in bitesize pieces. PERFECT. I had promised to share it with hubbie - and I was kinda mad that I'd offered - because truthfully I wanted to eat the ENTIRE thing by myself =) It was so good that the same day - in the evening - we went there again and I just had a ceasar salad this time - and the pig that I am - I ordered just a hamburger medium. This time their was too much dressing - but I still ate it all. And I had to send my hamburger back because it was well done - and the one I got again - still well done - so maybe I should have ordered it RARE?? The NEXT time which was two days later at a dinner event that Olympic has every friday as their "happy hour" (FREE TACOS, coconut shrimp, hot wings and other appetizers for $5.00) starting at 5pm - I HAD to order the ceasar salad AGAIN without chicken (hey I opted for the hot wings!) and this time I asked for the dressing on the side and I was pleasantly surprised that my salad was sooo crisp and yummy AGAIN! Now they have burgers on the menu, some mexican food (hubbie ordered their spinach and mushroom quesadilla) and other things like steak and fish - but of course, I only dream of their ceasar salad (with or without chicken) The service was friendly and the atmosphere nice. Yes, being able to look across the street to "Shaka Tacos" and listen to their band play was nice too. read more

Olympic Cafe was not on our Kauai places to eat itinerary but we found ourselves stumbling inside (since so many places are closed on Sunday on this island .. *cough* Pono Market *cough* We got seated by the open window with great views of the town and also the ocean. I ordered the Ahi Sandwich with waffle fries. My cut of fish was huge. They definitely give you large portions here. Fish is pretty fresh and tasted really good. We almost turned around and left when we originally entered up the stairs, due to the nasty musty, moldy smell (that didn't go away even after entering the restaurant). Thank goodness there was a table open by the window, or we could not have eaten there. The Kalua pork quesadilla was really tasty. The avocado, brie, & sundried tomato on sourdough appetizer? Meh. This may be a fun place to be at night, watching people walk by. During rush hour, not so much. Service was good. I'd go back for the Kalua pork quesadilla and to try the hula pie or Kauai pie, but not if I can't sit by the window. read more

Just plain ol' good food. Everything from fresh salads, sandwiches and wraps, to burgers, and ribs. Full bar and decent beer and wine selection. If you're in Kapaa you owe it to yourself to stop by for a bite. read more

Its just ok. Second time I have been here on vacation with my family. Lots of things to choose from on the menu. I still think it's rather expensive for what it is but we were just hungry and forgot the places to go. We remembered the place because it's in a shopping district and it's upstairs that gives a nice view of the mountain range. Locals don't recommend it, a tourist trap two locals told me. Spent about 80$ with tip for two kalua pork sandwiches, two beers, and a kids meal. read more

Been here like 5 times for breakfast and 2 times for lunch or happy hour. The happy hour specials are good. The made from scratch bloody marys are good too. My traveling partner and I have tried quite a few different breakfast items and like them all. The restaurant is all on the second level and almost a completely open air. The ocean side of it has a nice view past the parking lot and is alot quieter than the more available street side view. Either way it's views of Kauai, right!! Now I know this place is good because I have seen local Hawaiians eating here more than twice. Which means it's also good for the money. read more

Good food and even better people watching. The mix of locals and tourists kept me entertained as well waited for our food. We couldn't get a table that looked out to the street but that was okay....it was just a street. I had the bbq chicken quesadilla and my husband had the chicken teriyaki and mashed potatoes. This is a good place to grab a drink and feel the light breeze coming through the open windows. I made a mistake and ordered a tuna salad. I automatically assumed tuna would be sashimi on a salad, but indeed I was not. I initially felt like a cat eating the tuna salad, but it wasn't all that bad. I would not recommend it though. This place was pretty great! We ate here on the way from Poipu beach to Hanalei Bay. The coffee was lacking and the mimosas didn't give me a buzz or anything, but the avocado omelet was delicious! And we got to sit by the windows and watch morning traffic and birds. ha My husband liked his quesadilla, too. The fruit servings are pretty generous as well. Good service. read more

Ate breakfast at the Olympic this morning while in Kapaa -loved the atmosphere, amazing menu and service. The portions were very large-perfectly cooked bacon and fresh fruit. The service was prompt and courteous. The coffee is served in a large tall mug which patrons can also purchase. I highly recommend this gem if visiting-thank you!! read more

This is a great place with great atmosphere. I was expecting a nice grilled cheese and a beer but really surprised by the food options. The size of the Ahi burrito was enough to satisfy anyone in our party of eight. Crystal the bartender was nice enough to recommend the right beers and cocktails for our dishes. We didn't have much room for desert but we enjoyed this 18 inch tall chocolate pie anyway. If your hungry this is a great place to enjoy a beer or feast. read more

Olympic Cafe was a good place to find when cruising around Kauai. It was a solid place to grab a drink during happy hour and the prices were good. Most places around Kauai seemed pretty expensive. Kapaa's traffic gets pretty miserable for a few hours in the late afternoon and Olympic Cafe's happy hour hits just in time for you to sit and watch the poor saps chug along while you get hammered/ Sweet!! Oh yeah, the food is good too. I had the Monster Burrito and the Kalua Pig Plate. Although I just pooped in the bathroom down the hall and the smell is a little rank...its destroying my memory of the pig plate, so get one of their mondo-sized salads instead. read more

4 stars for great atmosphere - lively scene where you can people-watch, TV-watch or catch glimpses of the ocean just a block away. 4 stars for the bar with a wide range of cocktails, nice selection of beers and wine and solid bar food. 2-3 stars for the regular food. Fettucine alfredo was the best of the lot. Cheese raviolis are large but marina is bland. Chicken teriyaki dry but mashed potatoes were delicious and nicely-flavored. It was served with carrots and broccoli which were nicely steamed. Worst of all were the fish tacos. First, my biggest complaint: the fish chunks were over-cooked, super-dry and tasteless. Then, they were served with shredded american cheese. Instead of a nice seasoned cabbage slaw, you were supposed to treat these tacos like the El Paso ones - stuff them with shredded lettuce and cheese. They did add a mango salsa but that was basically cut-up fruit e.g. not much of a salsa (which would have included chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro and lime). Prices are affordable for Kauai. There's off-street parking in the back of the building. read more

I absolutely fell in love with this place! The service is wonderful. We had the best waitress ever. The breakfast potatoes are so delicious. The bloody Mary's are amazingly good. My husband left his credit card at the restaurant and the waitress was an honest woman and turned it into her manager and we were able to retrieve the card as soon as my husband realized he had left it. We went twice in 3 days! The Kalua pork sandwich is that good. The first time we sat at the window and truly enjoyed the view. If you get the chance to sit there, say "yes". The service was polite and helpful, but a little slow the second night. We also tried the Kalua pork quesadilla which was excellent. The mango salsa was a little spicy.
