Food quality was meh. Taste was fine, although my chicken was served completely burned. Veggies were undercooked and tasteless. Service was initially sub-par, our food took nearly half an hour to arrive, and the overall ambience of the place is rather run-down and amateur. We asked for a table by the street view, and were told that there was a 30-minute waiting list for it. The table remained unoccupied long after 30 minutes and no one sat down even after we paid our tab and left. The only saving grace for our experience here was the second waitress who was friendly, and offered to remove the unsatisfactory dish from our tab. Otherwise, I would have given this place one star. What used to be a great little local place for food and drinks, just seems to have gone downhill. I came in for lunch, sat at the bar, ordered a beer right away then waited quite awhile for the bartender to take my lunch order....as she was visiting with friends at the end of the bar. After 1:00 pm, I'm getting a little "hangry". Ordered a chicken sandwich with waffle fries. Restaurant wasn't too busy, so I was surprised it took a while. I was told they were waiting on the fries. Plate delivered, wonderful tasting hot fries, not so with the chicken sandwich. Normally I would've sent it back, but I was starving. My take is that The Olympic has become a social club for employees and locals ultimately at the expense of the rest of the customers. We've eaten here before, but this time we really wanted to politely mention to the Manager that one of the waitresses (not ours) wasn't wearing her mask properly, if at all, as she worked. We asked to speak to a Manager, and when he got to our table.. he wasn't wearing a mask. I told him I was going to mention his employee, but obviously he wasn't wearing a mask either. He actually had the gall to say to me "Well, you're not wearing a mask..." I'M THE CUSTOMER..SEATED AT A TABLE, EATING!! 10 months into this, and this guy doesn't wear a mask when he responds to a customer who wanted to see the Manager..? He finally mumbled that he'd talk to her. Clearly MOST of his staff are wearing them.. but not the Manager? Our waitress did apologize, and she did a great job. The Olympic Cafe doesn't seem to care about Health & Safety. Our server was wearing her mask on her chin, the host didn't have a mask and none of the kitchen staff was wearing them either. Kauai is in the midst of a Covid spike with over 100 active cases currently, they have been shut down once already but the restaurant ownership just doesn't seem to care about it's employees or customers. Great for what it is! A diner style place to grab a bite - with a menu bigger than the table! Known for the amazing second story, open air concept with tables all along the edge for perfect people watching in the centre of old town Kapa'a. Most things are great on the menu-simple, burger/wrap/burrito style foods-but good! Everything was fresh! Service was really great, and the waffle fries are reallyyyyy yum!! The lava lava's are a huge hit at happy hour and so is the coconut shrimp! Give it a try and be sure to fight for the window seats:) read more

Airy restaurant with tasty food and drinks. We "found" this place on our last day of the trip and stopped in for breakfast and I'm so glad that we did! Our food and drinks were so tasty and the portions were quite large, I wasn't able to finish my food. I did down my Blue Hawaiian, which was exceptionally good! The menu is quite extensive, it was hard to make a choice as everything looked so yummy! Our server was super friendly and attentive and the food arrived quickly. We weren't in a rush, though on our last day we were eager to get in some good snorkeling :o). This is a place we will definitely revisit upon our return to beautiful Kauai! read more

A nice place for lunch. The open-air, upstairs dining room, with Sleeping Giant/street views on the west side of the room, and ocean/parking lot views on the east side. There's a large bar with big TV. The food is acceptable, not great. On a prior visit, my large Greek salad as very fresh and good. On my recent visit, the "blackened" ono sandwich was actually reddened. It was OK. Fries were crisp and tasty. Honey liked his club sandwich. We went here on our first night in Kauai. It was packed, and lot of younger people were there with their friends or at the bar. But there were also a few families and older guests as well. Their Mai Tais are good, but the ice makes them melt too fast and this they taste watered down after the first few drinks. The waitress we had was great, she kept checking in on us to let us know the eta of our food, if we wanted more beverages, etc. My folks both had hamburgers, and I had the ahi tuna in cilantro sauce. My dish came with steamed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes, which were OUT OF THIS WORLD. They were super garlicky and delicious. We also went back for dinner on our last night in Kauai. This time we were able to get a booth on the street side, which was nice to people watch and get the breeze. Our waitress was nice, but a but absent at times. My dad ordered a side of the garlic mashed potatoes in addition to his seafood platter, but when our food came he didn't get them. I flagged down another waitress to let her know and she went and got the order, but it sounded like it was never communicated the first time to the cooks. My mom got the ribs, which were good but needed more sauce, because they were a bit flavourless without it. I got the papaya-macadamia nut ahi and it was AMAZING. It was cooked just how I ordered and the sauce/relish was amazing; sweet and salty. Overall, we will probably go back when we come back to Kauai. The food is good, but the portions are HUGE (which I like for leftovers, but others may not). There are tons of menu options, and they serve the lunch menu all day after about 11am, so that's nice. The wait staff is friendly and outgoing, but a different person that was not our waitress brought out our food on both visits, which I found slightly odd. Another downside is that the place could use a good scrub down. It's not unsanitary, but the railing to get upstairs could really use a scrub, and the edges of crannies by the booths as well. read more

We dined here for the first time on 9/12 for dinner and loved it! Our server Malina was so nice and helpful. My friend and I both ordered the special blackened fish dish and were pleased about the portions and the overall service. The view was very nice too and I got some great pictures of sunset. We liked it so much that we returned the following evening for another dinner and once again had the amazing Malina as our service. This time we tried two different salads and added shrimp. Neither salad was a disappointment. Staff is very helpful and customer service focused. Maybe next visit we will go for breakfast or lunch. Very nice place!! read more

Yes they were slammed and short staffed but severs seemed angry when you asked for the bill and to go boxes. Good coffee tho.

Open air seating does not mean COVID safe. NONE of the staff members wear masks - and that includes servers and kitchen staff. We asked why they were ignoring the State of Hawaii MANDATES and the young man at the front desk (who is the son of the owner) indicated that his dad told them that they were not required to wear a mask. We have eaten here many times in the past - the food is "okay" but when the server came out of the kitchen carrying a tray of food on his shoulder directly next to his un-masked mouth - we got up and left! What a lack of respect for their customers and a complete disregard for the law. If you are worried about COVID - I would avoid this restaurant - it was the ONLY one we encountered on Kauai that was ignoring public safety - what a shame! read more

I went here with my husband for their Taco Friday that we heard about and save yourself the time and effort. So it's two drinks per person (any kind of drink...soda, juice, etc) and you get bottomless tacos which sounds too good to be true...because it is. I would describe the tacos as being airplane food quality. Not so good. Maybe it's because I live 5 minutes away from amazing tacos in CA, but these were just pathetic. I think if I had multiple kiddos and wanted to save a few bucks going out to eat, this would actually be a perfect solution, haha, but definitely not a good option if you're past the chicken finger and sprite phase of life. The location was cool and the upstairs seating is breezy and has a good feel to it...the only reason I gave it an extra star. Oh! And the French fries were bomb, but tacos were terrible. My wife has celiacs and cannot eat gluten. When asking if this place has gluten free options you would have thought I asked for the answer to a trigonometry question lol. With absolutely no help at all from the staff or waitress we were able to get her something that would be gluten free. Instead the waitress came back out and told us "ummm yeah there's gluten in there." IN CORN TORTILLAS!! We asked if we could speak to the cook, and the waitress then told us that the cook didn't want to sub the corn tortillas. We were then told that the "owner is kind of a dick" and that he just refused to sub out the corn tortillas for the flour. Would not waste your money here. read more

My wife & I ate here for breakfast on a weekday. We both enjoyed the banana macadamia nut pancakes because they were very fluffy and tasted great with the coconut syrup. We also had some scrambled eggs with vegetables and some fried potatoes which we thought could use some more flavor. The price of the food was a little high, but I guess we were paying for the view of old Kapaa. The service was also average for Kapaa. This is the second time I've eaten here. Service this time around was better; our waiter was very polite and attentive. The food isn't the best I've had but it's still delicious and the portions are massive! I ordered the Kalua pork breakfast burrito and my roommate ordered regular pancakes. The food came out quickly an was hot. My burrito was huge; my roommate's first exclamation was, "That's bigger than you!" (It was almost the size of my head) The burrito was tasty; the Kalua pork was fresh and it was a good combination of flavors, especially with the tropical salsa. My roommate's stack of three pancakes was also huge. The pancakes weren't as fluffy as they could have been but they had good flavor and were very filling. We are regulars here and probably won't ever go back. We were sat at a blazing hot booth in the farthest corner (at least 10 tables from anyone else) with 2 small children under 3. High chairs are not allowed (fire hazard) and it overlooks the road. Speaking of fire - when asked if sun shade could come down because we were all burning up including the kids who had to sit in our laps we were told no. We opted to wait for another table and kept getting skipped over. On the mirror side of the restaurant there was a man lying on the floor next to a dog (not a fire hazard apparently). We were given water in coffee mugs and disposable cups because they were out of cups they said but we noticed we were the only table with this policy including guests who arrived after us. We ordered and our waitress basically wouldn't honor the order because she "likes to be honest" and said her friends ordered them earlier in the afternoon and left because they were so gross. I couldn't understand why the item wasn't just removed from the menu if it wasn't a fixable problem? We switched the order to steak. After another 10 minutes of waiting she came back to sat they were out. They knocked over one of the disposable cups and ice water spilled on my baby. Lastly, and fittingly they didn't take our method of payment (amex I believe) not a huge deal but something to consider since I don't remember it being a problem before. No attempt at reparations were made for the blatantly terrible experience. We really liked going here as a family so I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 with the hopes they return to former glory. read more

To top it off 75% of the staff wasn't wearing their masks properly or weren't wearing them at all. The worst experience ever, the service here is horrible. I don't know where to start, first we ordered 5 drinks and we only got 4, then we waited over 30 minutes to be told that the printer kitchen was broken and they only sent 2 of our 5 food plates. In that moment we told the waitress we can't wait anymore because we had a boat trip schedule for noon so we are only going to pay for the drinks. So she went back to the kitchen instead of going to get our check with the drinks. We were getting really late to at least stop by somewhere else to eat something fast so we stand up from our table and went to the front and give the hostess $15 that was the cost of our 4 drinks. The waitress showed up with two boxes of ToGo food (She said it was the two plates that we ordered and the only ones that were ready) I told her I wasn't going to pay for that, we ordered 5 plates and it's not our fault that they weren't ready after 40 minutes at that point, she started fighting with me saying that I can't say that and I have to pay for the food I ordered, again we told her that we already gave the hostess the money for the drinks and that's it so she she went to the register and brought a check for $24 including the mimosa that we never got. In that moment of course we were very angry about the whole situation so we started telling her that she never brought the mimosa and she told us we were liars. I know how it's to run a restaurant and this people need to learn a lot. Problems can happen but the way you handle it makes a big difference : Missing one drink, and if 3 of 5 meals are not even started after 30 minutes is their mistake and you didn't handle it right, in a decent restaurant you should get the drinks for free you wasted our time but we were willing and payed for them but on top of that you treat us as liars and thieves for not paying for 2 meals. read more

They had $2 off beers and a bunch of $6 appies (coconut shrimp, vege plate, fried pickles, potstickers). We settled on the potstickers and the fried pickles and they were nothing special but did the trick. Had lots of tables and would be a decent place to grab a beer but unsure about food. read more
