Visiting from out of town, and this was our first time at this location (we've been to the one in Eau Claire). It's a cute shop with a fun, oversized ice cream seat out front. You can enjoy your treats there or grab a table inside. We got a warm greeting from a young woman who helped with our order. We chose a couple of malts, a dish, and a double scoop in a waffle cone. The portions were very generous (maybe I should have gone with a single?). Everyone loved what they got. They also sell other items, including bulk coffee, apparel, and various merchandise. This place is fantastic! Really high quality ice cream. Ice cream is one of the few things that has gotten better in the last, say 25 years or so, rather than worse. That being the case, given that Olsen's has been around along time I wasn't sure if it was not-as-good old style ice cream, or much better modern ice cream. I have to say it's the latter. So so good! So much so that I have to make a point to stop in Chippewa Falls for a cone every time I pass by. The staff are super friendly and helpful with samples. read more

I stopped in for a Frostee years ago and talked with the owner, they no longer have the machine to make them. So I asked for a Nutrition label for the frozen yogurt as I am diabetic. The OWNER wasn't about the provide me with one which surprised me. I can no longer frequent a childhood memory as my family went to Olson's every Sunday for Frostees and ice cream cones for the whole family of 7. Now, without knowing how much sugar is in ANY of their products I can no longer buy any item on the menu without knowing the carbohydrate content. Wouldn't you think the owner would want to promote his products to everyone? He also made a public fuss about Don from the Burger Station, because Don was selling his Olson Ice Cream at HIS establishment. Why would the Olson Ice Cream owner complain? Don was selling his product which also promoted it even further. It made no sense to me. After those two instances I decided that I would no longer support a business that I had frequented for over 60 years. read more

Cute little shop with home made ice creams. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were a couple of funny guys who seemed to love what they do. There were a lot of flavors to choose from but I ended up settling on the turtle flavor. Got a strawberry malt too which was tasty. It was definitely a popular choice that shake since two other patrons ordered the same thing. The ice cream was nice and creamy and fresh. I also loved that they had a nice small size called the toddler. Perfect size for me it seemed like a half cup size. Prices were a bit high but the quality was great. They also have food as well. Olson's Ice Cream Parlor is a Chippewa Valley institution and the taste of my childhood! Growing up around Chippewa, Olson's Ice Cream can be found at so many different shops. Even my local dairy had Olson's for sale. I don't blame them: why serve grocery store ice cream, when the best is made within 20 miles. Yet, a trip to the parlor is always a magical experience and full of memories. Despite being in my 20's now, I still feel like a kid again at every visit, happily licking away at my ice cream cone while actual kids giggle and drip ice cream on themselves around me. It's a place so fully of laughter and joy, which is what I feel the Olson family actually creates. I will forever hold to Olson's Glacier Bay Lemon as the best ice cream flavor in the world, with its swirls of lemon syrup and chunks of meringue/pie crust. Not only are they serving Ice cream, they are also serving assorted popcorn at two locations, downtown Eau Claire and Downtown Chippewa. The Ice cream is great and the popcorn is just as good. Buckets of ice cream in assorted flavors are also sold at Festival Grocery Store. Yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely a nostalgic feeling coming here. I've only had one scoop of their ice cream and a taste of another scoop ordered by my wife. I ordered blackberry sorbet. It was frozen but other than the temperature, it resembled blackberry flavored Silly Putty more than sorbet. It was the most rubbery sorbet I've ever tried to eat. I'm not sure what kind of weird ingredients they used to make it, but they need to throw away that recipe. My wife also got grapefruit ice cream. It wasn't disgusting like the sorbet, but it was off somehow. It might have been the combination of dairy and grapefruit that was wrong, but it simply didn't taste good. I don't get it, is this ice cream homemade if they call it "Home-Maid"? What does that even mean?.... The ice cream is good, but I would say they could dial back on some of the flavors. My family loved the mocha chip, but our other flavors were more of a miss than a hit. I had the banana split, which was good, but nothing too special. I found the shop to be really disoriented. There was no clear line. Some tried to wait by the coolers, others tried to wait by the register to order. Definitely was bizarre! read more

I have family out in this area who have taken me here. It's a cute little ice cream shop which also serves lunch. What I really liked about this place were the varieties of ice cream, and the variety which included some rare flavors like "cookie monster" which was like a blue cookie dough ice cream (I got that one, and LOVED it!) or pumpkin...or one which had cocoa krispies in it! Stopped in to Olson's for a late lunch after a tour at Leinenkugel. It was suggested by several people in town and we were quite excited about trying it out. We got a panini and the chicken dumpling soup! Both were tasty. We had to try a product of Wisconsin's dairy and let alone this place was know for their homemade ICE CREAM...so we finished walking out with some scoops. Seriously good ice cream. Rich and creamy. We tried the cookies & cream and the mocha mud pie. Heavenly. We got a chuckle out of items being sold in the shop. There were homemade knit items and "polish chainsaws". We are bummed we didn't snag a few of these gems for Christmas gifts. The staff was friendly and it finished off a great day in Chippewa Falls. Catering review! For our wedding, we decided we wanted ice cream instead of cake. Having grown up in Chippewa, my first thought was Olson's! We reached out and Jeremy (manager/co-owner) was so helpful letting us know our options and letting us sample as many flavors as we wanted! Our event was too far away to have scoopers on site but we were able to order 140 prepackaged 10 oz containers in a variety of flavors. Jeremy gave us tips for transporting the ice cream and where to find dry ice. We were so happy with how everything turned out! Olson's (and Jeremy in particular) made it so easy and we would definitely recommend using Olson's for your large catering needs! Thanks so much! read more

Huge range of flavors with generous portions and low prices. Love the cookies and cream (big chunks of oreos plus amazingly creamy vanilla ice cream) as well as pumpkin pie, mocha chip and many, many others. I'm biased, I have loved their ice cream since I was a kid. It has a solid deli menu, but its the AMAZING homemade ice cream that will keep you going back with incredible frequency!! This place is an institution. It has been there for more than 80 years. After 3 generations in one family it changed hands a couple of years ago. I hope/trust that it's up to its same standards. My childhood memories are of great butter brickle and great black licorice ice cream (which I usually had together, but I was a bit "special" even then) Two stories that give you a sense for the place: 1. For many decades they'd exceed the legal butterfat content that ice cream can have (just to ensure extra awesomeness). The local judge would fine them but suspend the fine for a dish of ice cream. Now that's my kind of small town justice! 2. In the 1970's they made the world's largest milkshake. 2 of those semi trucks that transport milk full of free chocolate shakes for all. Ice cream ran down the street and it seemed like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with the street running with chocolate. Wow this place has great ice cream!!! I knew it was going to be good when we drove by on a Thursday afternoon and all the chairs outside were full and you could see quite a few more inside. I'd never been to Chippewa Falls so my friends decided we had to make a stop here on the way back from the park. The ice cream was awesome. I liked it much better than Grand Old Creamery and that sucks because GOC is about a mile from my house and this is over 2 hours away. I had an ice cream called chocolate marshmallow wave and it couldn't have been better. The waffle bowl was good too! I also tried some of my friend's cookies and cream and it was probably the best C&C I've ever tried. I can't wait to go back to Chippewa and go back to Olson's. read more
