Basic cafeteria food done pretty well. There's a grill where you can order burgers and fries, pizza, hot meal station (sometimes they have Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes), salad bar and other hot food bar (depends on the day, I saw enchiladas, adobo, nacho bar, etc). For breakfast the grill serves breakfast burritos and sandwiches. They also have bagels, cereal, pastries and a variety of fountain drinks and drinks in the fridge. Prices are pretty cheap. I got two chicken tenders and Curley fries for less than $5. Salad is about $.50 per ounce. Only annoying thing is that the prices for the grill are on a screen that rotated between a few different pictures so it's hard to read all the menu items at once.

    Fish tacos Friday's $2.49 each. :D

We all know hospital food tends to be meh. Even during rotations, each of the hospitals I went to had bad to acceptable food. Here they actually have healthier choices and pretty decent food. Surprisingly, the fat pizzas are good, always moist and cheesy. The hamburger is meh The chicken sandwich is good, with a full healthy grilled chicken breast The chicken wrap has potential, but the one time I had it they used a piece of chicken that was sitting for a while so it was tough and dry. MEH The Pozole $3.19 (only Thursdays?) is pretty good, but super salty. The turkey burger is okay **The best thing here are the FISH TACOS, which I always get (only Fridays). Problem is they do run out so buy it before 2-3pm. $2.50 each and very filling Coffee, starbucks, usually very good, make sure you have a Coffee Club card, after 9 coffees/stamps you get one free. Prices are reasonable-slightly pricy for the type of patients we had and students who are broke. They should reconsider the prices. They usually clean the grill around 2pm? and it will last over 15 minutes. If you are short on time, come back, don't stand there and wait.

Listen to the people - this isn't just a Hospital cafeteria. This is a certifiable oasis of culinary genius. "Who is this guy, rating some restaurants poorly then giving a basement cafeteria in a Sylmar hospital five stars?" you ask? This is someone who has a diagnosable medical illness of intrusive day dreams about breakfast burritos - the ones Alfredo makes me when I work here. 18 people have gone out of their way to post Yelp reviews about this hospital cafeteria - and I will tell you it's all true. They make their salsa fresh daily from scratch, as well as their fish taco toppings and other delicious hot-meal options. The workers are always moving at light speed to serve you, which tbh looks exhausting. I wish you could tip them, it's like performance art watching them fill orders. The coffee is always fresh, and the cafeteria recently started serving iced coffee too, because the people demanded it I presume. The prices are super low for the high quality. The salad bar, as others pointed out, is basic. They have sweet potato AND curly fries, if you are feeling adventurous. The staff, if I can reiterate, are LOVELY. I will be taking my wife here for a date soon.

So my friends and I have become regulars here. It's a hit and miss. They do have a large selection of healthy (and not so healthy) options. I'm fond of their tuna melts. My friend often opts for the fish of the day. Breakfast is quick and prices are really reasonable. I was not a fan of the gravy and biscuits. Nor was the grilled cheese sandwich anything worth talking about. They have a large dining room and outlets to charge your phone. Service is quick and cafeteria setting. Check it out if you're waiting for an appointment. You might be surprised how good hospital food can be.

I heard from my friend that their smothered pork chops and mashed potatoes were delicious. So I decided to try them today. She was right, the pork chop was very tender and juicy. I was even able to cut/slice the meat using my plastic fork it was that tender. The mushroom gravy was sinful and very tasty at the same time. I'm glad I tried the smothered pork chop and mashed potatoes today.

Why review a cafeteria? Well, hospital cafeterias can bring up horrible memories of gross childhood elementary school cafeterias where the powdered diluted mashed potatoes are plopped onto dirty dishes. This is definitely NOT the case with the OV cafeteria. It has undergone both cosmetic and substantive improvement since I started dining here 3 years ago. Back then, things were a little more run down, the foods a little older, staler, greasier. However, they really have made an attempt to brighten things up, work on presentation of the food, and make things healthier. The salads can still be expensive, but some of the main entrees are much more affordable and are actually well-made! Soups can be amazing. And best of all, the breakfast burritos are killer. Seriously. Ask for "Breakfast burrito with sausage links, mushroom, onions, and hash browns," and you will get what I have gotten there over the years. It will satisfy your deepest cravings and last you until dinner. Yum!

Decidedly pleasant: Healthy, fresh, happy atmosphere - who knew! Given that it's out in the middle of nowhere, it's a nice surprise.

When Shakespeare wrote that 'a rose by any other name would smell as sweet', he'd clearly never had one of Luis Gutierrez burritos. A burrito by any other name, made by any other man is definitely not Luis' burrito. If I could write sonnets, I'd compose at least one dedicated to the perfectly crisped shell of the said burrito, the beautiful harmony of the eggs interplaying with the bacon, the soft surprise of the hash browns, and the spicy burst of the salsa -when you request to have it put inside the burrito (little known trade secret). All this to say that Olive View employs some spectacular chefs who put out some outstanding food. Like near Michelin star, minus the fancy sauce work. PS. I wrote this review while eating a burrito, THAT'S how inspired I was.

    Patio dining.

I just want this Sylmar location to be better. I ordered three Double-Doubles Animal Style with whole grilled onions through the drive-thru. I told the first employee, then reminded the second employee when he repeated my order without the onions. He even relayed the request to the team. After waiting through the long drive-thru line, I picked up our food and brought it home to my family. We opened the burgers... zero onions. Not only were the whole grilled onions missing, but they forgot the onions entirely on all three burgers. Mistakes happen, and I normally wouldn't make a big deal out of it. But after specifically mentioning the onions multiple times to 2-3 employees, it was pretty frustrating to end up with none. I still love In-N-Out, but this Sylmar location has a consistently slow drive-thru, and this experience definitely didn't help. Hopefully they can tighten things up... because I really want to keep loving this location as much as I love In-N-Out.

They have marble tables and counters, with comfortable chairs, and lots of light coming in through the windows. The staff is all smiles and very welcoming, happy to help you navigate the very interesting bill of fare, and making sure your cocktail is made exactly as you like. I was dining solo, so I sat at the bar, and James took excellent care of me from start to finish. I asked for a Bombay Sapphire Martini with Olives; James immediately offered regular or blue cheese-stuffed olives, and asked if I preferred the martini shaken or stirred. The drink that emerged was well-balanced, cold and very tasty. The menu is filled with all sorts of interesting choices. Some are familiar items like salads and fishes and hamburgers or cheesesteak sandwiches done in their way -- but my eye immediately went to a very unique starter: Duck Fat Potato Confit. Say what? As James explained, it is a whole potato that has been slow cooked in duck fat (confit, as we know) and served as the main attraction in the dish as one might similarly feature a duck leg or short rib. I had to order this, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding dishes I've eaten in a long time. The aforementioned, slow-cooked potato initially appears a bit like a whole boiled potato, but looks are deceiving. Because of the cooking method, the potato holds it's consistency and shape much more than a boiled or baked potato, cutting almost like a protein. It's solid but tender, and as it has absorbed quite a bit of flavor during the cooking, this potato is far tastier on its own than those other iterations. But you are NOT eating this potato unadorned. Oh no, this potato is dressed with caramelized onions, smoky bacon lardons, wild mushrooms and a rich, very flavorful demi-glace. All together, you've layers upon layers of flavor that make you ignore all distractions and really concentrate on the pleasure you're getting from your food. But that's not all... Perhaps the cleverest element of a dish composed entirely of clever elements is the Mornay Sauce. Snow white, and with enough of just the right cheese to add texture to the Bechemel without becoming too powerful, the sauce is plated on the bottom, with the potato resting atop it. Visually, this looks like mashed potatoes served underneath a protein, and it plays the same role texturally -- but because you wouldn't serve potatoes with a potato, the sauce is a lighter accompaniment, whose flavor marries perfectly with the more complex sauce coming from above, and you cannot help but marvel at this stroke of culinary magic. Just wow. I finished with a dessert of Key Lime Budino, which was rich and creamy with a serious hit of sour from the Key Lime. A nice and refreshing shift after the savory richness of my entree. How lucky are the people of Newhall and Santa Clarita that they have a restaurant making such interesting and excellent food? I come up at least once a month for a music event, and how lucky am I to have discovered this place to eat beforehand? And by the way: if you live in the San Fernando Valley, this place is really less than 30 minutes away (without traffic), so the next time you're thinking of going over the hill to a place in Beverly Hills or Santa Monica, you may want to head North instead. I promise you, The Old Town Junction will become your new favorite.

I would have loved two crab cakes, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I went to CF Food for their Beef Wellington, and I was not disappointed. The pastry was golden and crispy, with a gentle firmness at the base to bed the Beef. The Beef Wellington was perfect!! It was tender, cut through like butter and was perfectly seasoned, which awakened your palate. I don't know why I ordered medium. I should have ordered medium rare. Note to self. The pommes puree was firm yet smooth. I couldn't get enough of it. I think I licked my fork I was driving so one glass of Cabernet would do. I ended this spectacular meal with a slice of cheesecake. As you can see by my empty plates, I enjoyed my dinner. I noticed several couples on a date, and friends who fought over the check. If you're looking for a new restaurant to visit.
