Ok. Where to start? I'm in town staying at a local hotel with my wife & granddaughter visiting universities in the area for my granddaughter. We ordered takeout around 8:00 pm. I ordered 2 lamb kebab platters (medium rare), 1 with Syrian rice and 1 with Bulgar, Syrian salad, hummus plate, and grape leaves. I also asked for cucumber yogurt sauce on the side for the lamb kebabs. I also asked for extra pita since we ordered the hummus and my granddaughter really likes pita. I picked up the food about 5 minutes before they closed. No problem, the food was ready. After arriving back in the room I unpacked all the food. The first thing I noticed was my order was totally wrong! Instead of lamb kebab, we got 2 lamb kofte kebabs. NOT WHAT I ORDERED!!! On top of that, 2 sections of the plate had cucumber yogurt sauce for my granddaughter's plate instead of what I think was couscous salad in 1 section of the plate that was in mine. Wait, there's more! The lamb kebabs are supposed to come with 2 pieces of pita each. Which it did but, where was the extra pita I asked for? Dude, I didn't say I wanted it for free!! Just give me what I ordered and I will pay for what I ordered. I should have know this was going to be a problem when I got off the phone after ordering. I asked a couple of questions because this place is new to me. I had to ask each question 2 or 3 times because he wasn't paying attention. I hung up the phone and said to my wife, "This guy has the personality of a 2x4!! You have one job! Pay attention on the phone and write down exactly what the customer asks for! Nothing more and certainly NOTHING LESS!!! If you do order from here, check your order before you walk out the door. As for me, I will NEVER order anything from this place ever again! read more

I've lived in milford for 20 years , pass it all the time leaving my salon ( Flip) I just started recently going because one of my clients who is Middle Eastern recommended it to me ,and nights that I work late I order chicken over a Syrian salad then in the cooler I grab my own portion of homemade hummus or baba ghanouj. eat that food for dinner and the weight will fall off I just lost 26 pounds and this is a great addition to my diet, just saying. We went while on vacation, and it was well worth it! Our group got chicken kabobs over hummus, falafel over Syrian rice with hummus, a Kebseh platter with lamb over rice with grape leaves and taziki and another Kebseh platter over spicy rice with hummus and taziki. As usual I have to try the local middle eastern places when I am in town on business. I found the olive tree by my hotel and ordered the mixed grill with hummus and salad. The mixed grill was packed full of flavor, the salad was lacking on the dressing bit overall a great meal. read more

Traveling for work and I stopped by here. I wasn't sure what to order and the guy asked me if I liked various things -- chicken, hummus, spicy food -- I said yes to all of those and got a chicken shwarama platter which was delicious. In the past I have said, "I love a good surprise." Luckily that is exactly what I got at Olive Tree. For anyone who lives in NYC you will know what I mean when I say I love Hallal Food from a cart. I was washing my clothes on a crappy Connecticut grey day and got that little rumble in my tummy that could not be ignored. I put away my DS, checked my cash flow and decided to partake in the food that was in the immediate area. Shitty bar, nope. Bagel place, good but I had had a bagel for breakfast. Fuji Chinese, hell no they never get my order right. Then like a shining beacon in the middle of a hurricane of blah was OLIVE TREE. I first walked in and what some people might call a crappy looking restaurant was like a palace to me. I agree that some places are made better by atmosphere but Olive Tree didn't need it. The food spoke for itself. I went up to the counter and was first amazed by the gorgeous counter girl. After I rolled my tongue up back into my mouth I asked my favorite question to ask someone, "What is your favorite thing on the menu." Her reply was perfect. She didn't stutter, she didn't fumble or even look at the menu. She wrote down on a pad what she liked and put in the order. I didn't ask questions I just payed my tab and walked around the store section. Here was the order: -Hummus platter w/ chicken, a side of Mujadara rice, Syrian salad and some fresh pita -Fresh falafel and a Snapple $8.69 Sweet lord I am writing this and I have put Olive Tree on my list of things to get today. So, my first bite was nothing short of a religious experience. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The rice was perfectly tender and was mixed with fresh barley and topped with caramelized onion. Their falafel was a dead on bulls eye. Super crispy on the outside and an explosion of flavor on the inside. They garnished with pickles, which I thought was weird at the time but, the acidity of the pickle cut the richness of the hummus and falafel like a sword. Thank the good lord that I live less than 5 minutes from this place. So 20 minutes passes and I finally came out of my Syrian daze. In the area on business trip and stopped in for a Lamb Gyro. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had a little spice to it but it was huge! Luckily, I was hungry from driving up from New York! The staff was very friendly and just the kind of place I search for when away from home. read more

My wife heard about this place in Milford that serves great food. I was willing to try when I found out they had gyros. My daughter had a salad with feta cheese that was much too salty and the dressing she asked for was not in the take out bag, my wife had falafel which was dry and flavorless and my gyro was made with meat that was no where near Lamb and it was chewy like I was eating leather. Anyone that says that this place is not good is simply out of their mind. The middle eastern food is top notch. Yes, it's humble, but the food is quality, and really un paralleled in these parts of connecticut. The lamb shawerma, the falafel (wrap and/or platter), yogurt salad, and yellow rice with sliced almonds and raisins are among my favorites, but anything you get you can be assured will be top notch. Since moving to Milford, I have been trying to explore all of the little eccentricities that it contains. Lord knows this is the land of strip malls and chain restaurants so I've been digging around and trying to find a place that is worth my money. What olive tree lacks in appearance, it makes up for in it's food. Service is quick and the food is yummy! I've been here twice (in one week) so far. The first time I ordered the lamb hummus platter and 6 dozen falafal. The lamb must be a popular item because the following day when I went in, a couple came in for just the lamb and left when they found it was sold out for the day. It was very delicious, with warm pita and the most delicious hummus I have ever tasted. Lots of tahini and rich olive oil. The falafal came with little pickles and I believe it was sprinkled with sumac (which I love). Tart, crunchy (albeit a little lacking in salt). The second time I had the fafta kabob (which I normally love elsewhere)..here, it was eh. I'd stick with the lamb The tabboleh needed a little extra lemon but I like mine super acidic so I'm sure it's just a taste preference but mixed with the hummus on the pita...Perfect! My FAVORITE place for hummus and falafel anywhere!! Beats Mamoun's in New Haven in my opinion, by far. Just got back from a month in Berlin where there are a ton of falafel places, and none compared. The owner Amai is one of the friendliest owners I have ever met. He always gives me a small dish with hummus and a falafel while I wait for my order. Wow, all I can say is this place calls to me in my sleep. If you like middle eastern food, you will be impressed. My husband and I get take out at least once per week from Olive Tree. I love the spicy hummus, and buy containers of it for home. Store bought just won't do any more. The gyros are awesome, too. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything. I'll take food from here over Mamouns any day. The owner marinates, spices an slow cooks all of the meat rather than throwing it on a grill. Of course that means later on a busy day, he runs out, so on a Saturday get there earlier in the day! read more

I visit this place frequently and consider myself fortunate enough to live so close by. I love Mediterranean food, and this is among the best you'll find in New Haven County. I've had falafel at Mamoun's in New Haven and Kebab House in West Haven, yet I consider Olive Tree to have the absolute best around. The shawerma wraps are great, and the hummus platters are excellent. Also, you can't beat the kefta. I've honestly never had a bad experience here, and would recommend it to anyone looking to try something different. The only thing keeping it from a five-star rating is the deli-like ambience. But it's a small strike considering how good and consistent this place is. read more

I had the Chicken Shawerma with two sides, hummus and tzatziki sauce. Everything was very fresh and the chicken was flavored very nicely. This is a small place with more of a deli style atmosphere, great for lunch or take out. The food wasn't cheap but neither was the ingredients or amount of food that we received. The Olive Tree is really great. The hummus is honestly some of the best hummus I've ever had. The kind that is in their display case is much better than the stuff they sell out of a cooler on the side, so try to ask for that (you may get push back, and it's probably more expensive, but it's worth it!). The falafel here is also excellent as are the various rice options. I haven't had any of the meat so I can't speak to that, but overall, I think this place is a win. They also just recently closed briefly to do a remodel and it turned out very well. read more

I've been coming here for years for falafel and shawarma. I've tried other restaurants in Fairfield, West Haven and New Haven and this is my favorite. Everything I've ever had has been consistently delicious. The owners are very nice and will give little samples of anything you're curious about trying. The lamb was very dry & chewy, there was hardly any cucumber sauce on it & the lettuce & tomatoes were soggy. The pita bread was just ok, not super fresh & soft like I like it to be.
