Batenjan
Allison K.

Wanted to eat some Mediterranean food for lunch so a coworker and I came to Olive Tree to try it out. Pretty spacious interior with a good amount of parking in front so that's always a plus. Our server was friendly and checked up on us throughout our lunch. Hummus w/Pita- the hummus was good! I never had pita flat like this so it was pretty interesting but it wasn't bad Batenjan- I'm not sure if I liked this dish. I feel like the acidity from the tomatoes were a little too overpowering and I didn't get to taste the savoriness of the dish. The Batenjan comes with a salad though so that's nice! Overall, I'd rate this place a 3.5. I'm not sure if I'd come back for lunch but I did see on the flyer that there's Belly Dancing so that's pretty neat and maybe I'd come back for that and try a different dish.

I was already in love with this place, but wow--the new updates and decor was amazing!!! The service was outstanding as always, it was the owners son, Dominique--he's a fabulous host. Hooked us up with the special for two that included some Lebanese red wine and it was fabulous. The special included chicken, filet mignon, and kaftan kabobs with roasted onions, tomatoes, and rice... so bomb. I always get the chicken kabobs anyhow, which are always cooked to perfection. You MUST get their hummus and baba ghanoush as appetizers and of course, what is this feast without an amazing desert? Homemade baklava of course!!! After dinner Dominique was showing us all the new renovations and took us to the new hookah lounge they made---totally awesome!!! He offered to try many different types of tequilas on the house, but if course we tipped because he was just a riot! He likes to play name that tune game with you, and he's REALLY good at stumping you even though you know the song!!! I enjoyed myself tremendously and the new ambiance is just the shiz, this place is a jewel and I'm glad I discovered it 5 years ago bc it's off the chain now! Don't forget belly dancing every Friday night!!! Thank you Dominique and pops, you guys are awesome!!!

DELICIOUS!!!!, authentic food. Nothing especially fancy, but very comfortable and welcoming. They have a huge patio for outdoor dining and a spacious indoor dining room. Belly dancing and fixed menu special on Fridays. We will be back for sure!

This was my first time trying this establishment as I live and work closer to Clearlake/Friendswood area. My mother brought me here for my birthday. I've had other Mediterranean restaurants but I must say this one left me feeling just right and satisfied- not too full or heavy. My go-to is the gyro or Greek salad, but I decided to step outside the box today. We ordered the stuffed cabbage rolls, pita and hummus, and bamieh. The bamieh came with a side salad as well. The food was flavorful and tasty. I was perplexed with the amount of meat that came with the dish (4 bite size pieces), but the owner (I'm assuming) came out to explain they use filet mignon with this dish (menu describes it only as beef tenderloin). I understood then why the meat was limited and would've been okay with the dish as is had it been explained earlier, but nonetheless, they did provide me with extra beef. I will be back again as I enjoyed the food I had, the atmosphere was inviting, and the staff very friendly.

Mixed grill, hummus, Baba Ganoush, cabbage rolls, stuffed grape leaves

To go doesn't do it Justice, Sorry Holy Crap, Amazing. Got the mixed grill, hummus, baba ganoush, Cabbage rolls, and stuffed grape leaves. I have more than enough for dinner tomorrow. Everything was fresh, tasty, and amazing. If I wasn't flying out in 2 days, I would be back for sure. Definite must visit!!

Delicious food! Friendly staff! The waitress is so kind and attentive. The owner is a genuinely kind, and welcoming man. We enjoy our short visits with him when we go. The eggplant dish is my all time favorite here and their Turkish coffee is the best around! Friday nights are always fun with the entertainment they bring in too

Nice place so-so food. Not manymediterrian places in pasadena to compare. 3 stars instead of 4 because they are not open for lunch.

We wanted to try some hummus, so we ordered the Mezze Plate, along with the Australian Lamb Souvlaki Plate. As we waited, we received complimentary salads (very refreshing) with lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, olives, feta, and onions, all drizzled with olive oil and herbs. The lamb was delicious: tender and well‑seasoned. The rice is parboiled, but I actually don't mind that at all, it was really good! The pita bread was very soft; I don't know if it's made in‑house, but it certainly feels like it. The tzatziki sauce was super creamy and so good. The Mezze Plate was great as well. The dolmades were good, the falafel was good, and the spanakopita (a large empanada‑like pastry filled with spinach and cheese) was delicious: pillowy, flaky, and creamy, all in one bite. It was served with small portions of tzatziki and hummus, both creamy and very tasty, plus more pita bread. We were impressed by The Great Greek. Even though it's a chain restaurant, the food is delicious and very good quality. A great spot in Baybrook Mall.

I love Greek food, so I decided to try this place out. I was greeted when I approached the counter. I ordered the Gyro Plate to go. There wasn't anyone in the restaurant, so it was very clean and quiet. It took about 3 minutes for my order to be ready. My dinner came with a good size salad, rice pilaf, pita bread and the meat. The meat was delicious. They don't give much pita bread, so I'll order extra next time. The rice was "ok". I didn't like that it had red pepper flakes in it, making it a little spicier than I can stand. Overall, I like it. I did go back and got a gyro instead of the gyro plate and it was HUGE and delicious! I unfortunately didn't get a chance to take a picture because I was starving, so you'll have to trust the Teller of Truth!

I was eager to give it a try, so tonight my family chose our dishes for a takeout order and looked forward to something great for dinner. Based on reviews I ordered falafel, kibbe, and chicken shawarma. My husband had a gyro and my daughter ordered the feta dip (which turned out to be cubes of feta and nothing for dipping. Unfortunately, we all agreed it was very okay. Everything was palatable, but it lacked the sparkle of meals we've eaten at other local eateries and at our Greek friend's house. My husband and I had the great good fortune to be able to travel in Istanbul and Greece over the summer, and the food was...better. I understand that region matters; perhaps I am not as enthusiastic about this version of food from that part of the world. One woman's opinion shouldn't spoil other peoples bliss, but I'm looking forward to my next visit to Wael's. I'll appreciate the delicious kibbe better than before.

We started with a sampler platter of appetizers, and let me tell you: you could tell the dolmas ("grape leaves" on the menu) were made fresh that morning, the hummus was delicious, the salad was refreshing, and the kibbeh and falafel were tasty too. The lamb sandwich was so good; I don't usually like pickles, but I did in that sandwich! We went for a late lunch/early dinner (3pm ish) and it was very quiet inside. Our server was conversational and fun! Highly recommend: go here if you want to support an under-appreciated Mediterranean restaurant in the area.
