Pack of 4, which was good. Chicken Sharma-- glad it wasn't on super thick bread, and I got extra pickles so I really liked it. Philly cheese steak-- it was a lot more bread than meat. Wouldn't get it again. Fries that came with the sandwiches- soggy, old tasting. Not fresh, crispy or hot. Really disappointed with the fries since thats the only thing one of my kids will eat. Also, again, no ketchup, and wasn't offered any. Mawal plate with salad and hummus-- my favorite thing, as the salad was fresh tasting and I liked the hummus. I love mediterranean food, wanted to try a different restaurant than my usual, went through uber eats seen a couple of places look at reviews & pictures so I made my decisions based off that. First time trying this place & highly disappointed, food portion is a rip off completely. My meal was the mawal plate, I thought I would get just as the picture looked like, or even a fair amount, not even close. Im really not a fan of that at all. the decor is just weird too, like someone of it just doesn't belong. It a bunch of mixed matched tables and decor. I tried Turkish coffee here for the first time and it was so good. I am such a big fan of coffee, I cant believe I hadn't gotten their Turkish coffee before then. Its super thick and has great coffee flavor. beware for the end of it, though, you'll end up chewing your coffee. The Mint lemonade is just amazing. super refreshing, not too sweet, and packed with minty goodness. I almost asked for one to take home with me, it was just that good. Im kinda mad I had to share mine. ;) The food was good too, I got the veggie plate with eggplant, falafel, cauliflower, and rice. The eggplant was a little greasy but it still tasted pretty good. The falafel was super crunchy and you could really taste the chick peas in it. some places mask that flavor with spices. being that is deep fried, Im always worried that it will be greasy but it wasn't! One thing I would skip the next time is the baklava. It tasted like the fridge. It just wasn't good at all. Like they get it shipped to them and keep it in the fridge until it all sales. Visited late afternoon, the place was not busy. The waiter was friendly and asked if we wanted to smoke hookah, we were only there to dine so he told us to sit wherever we wanted. I'm assuming there is a designated for those who want to smoke and dine. We sat away from the hookah area but could still smell the hookah smoke. We ordered water and he brought us bottled water. Not sure if tap water was an option or we were charged for it, I forgot to check the bill. The environment was cozy and good for a date night or with friends. The food was pretty average. I was dissappointed that there were not too many vegetarian options and the ones they had were very basic and boring. Also, if you try to use the coupon on yelp, they do not honor it. The server said it was only for online orders. He gave us a small discount though, but I'm not sure what it was. I have been to another Cafe Mawal in Houston, and I expected the same out of this one. In a nutshell, this place is a Miditerranean cafe that opens until late where you can smoke hookah and hang out until your lungs give out. I used to hookah a lot, but I haven't been recently so I skipped the hookah this time. I sat down with my buddy just for the food and the feels. This place has been open for a while now. It is in a spot that has been the home of several other failed restaurants in the past. You actually see it easily from the road while driving on Bay Area blvd.They have a side patio and a front patio area that would be nice to hang out at when the weather gets warmer. The inside of the place feels welcoming and clean, and you can see some hookah's on display. Overall the decor inside is simple, and it's actually not smoky for hookah place that allows hookah smoking inside (they have a smoking and non-smoking section). Now on to the food, I ordered the Cafe Mawal appetizer sampler that included 2 falafels (i love falafels!), 2 dolmas (grape leaves with stuff in it), hummus, a salad, something else and pita bread. The appetizer was great and was actually very filling even for 2 people. I was afraid I was going to not have enough room for my main mea,but i didl. I got the gyro, which had a lot of lamb and chicken in it and tasted pretty good. The service was also great, the server took a lot of time talking to us and just explaining some menu items to us. Overall the food, service and feels were great! They open late, so next time I get hungry late I might stop by again. The food is great. Always get the beef kabob and their amazing sauce. However, the service is the WORST ever. The staff always take their time getting us drinks even though it's just water. Food takes awhile to be served and they usually don't check up on you. They don't show you an itemized receipt and when you do ask, it's just from the credit card machine with the total amount. The tip is INCLUDED when you pay and they will 100% not tell you. Double tipping and that's just wrong. Will continue to eat here because of the food but will be conscious of the bill. Very bad service, they let us order at 11:45pm and it says they close at 1am but they gave us 15min before they told us we have to go because they closing at 12am with an attitude and no notice when we were ordering, so we smoke hookah for 15min and couldn't finish our food. We visited because I always come across this place on Yelp and wanted to try it out. As we sat down the waiter Joud pulled a chair out from a table across from us and stomped on a big roach. Left to grab the broom and dustpan, came back swept that thing up- then took our drink orders like nothing happened. Every now and then, I venture to Bay Area Blvd. and the Baybrook Mall area. While a lot of the restaurants in the area are chain restaurants, there are some local gems including Cafe Mawal Mediterranean Grill. I saw there's another Cafe Mawal located in Houston but not sure if they are owned by the same person. There is a parking lot and the restaurant is adjacent to a bit of a run down apartment complex. As you walk in, there's a nice patio in the front. After my meal, I immediately regretted not sitting out on the patio. It is patio season after all! They have a couple TVs both inside and outside and had ESPN on. There was also a sign out front advertising their $6.99 lunch special: your choice of a gyro sandwich, falafel sandwich, burger, and one more I can't recall with fries. We sat at a booth inside, Cafe Mawal is a casual spot. Some people were there to smoke hookah and others were there to dine. I had an Arabic soft drink which was cherry-based, I think? It was alright and interesting to try but I wouldn't get it again. For my appetizer, I started off with the fried halloumi cheese which is a mix of goat's cheese and sheep's cheese. Garnished with some lettuce and tomato, I loved it. With that being said, the cheese is a bit rubbery in texture so it's not for everyone. For my main dish, I had the souvlaki sandwich which comes with cubes of lamb on a pita with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles. You're given three sauces: tsaziki (I can never spell it right), a white garlicky sauce, and a spicy red sauce. O and fries too! The lamb was tender, the fries were crisp and sprinkled with some goodness (might've been paprika), and I liked the selection of sauces so you could mix or pick your favorite. My partner in crime really enjoyed her meal. Another Yelper alleged that he believes an employee was masturbating in the bathroom when he was there. What a wonderful experience we had at Cafe Mawal. My fiance and I ordered the Mawal Sampler, Swarma Combo, and Mawal plate. Everything was excellent. The hummus was creamy and fresh, as were the tabouli and grapeleaf rolls (my fiance says he usually doesn't care for grapeleaf but he really liked these!) The chicken was so flavorful and tender and the beef was cooked perfectly. I loved the mix of textures and flavors. Watch out for that red sauce! We finished off with two baklava rolls that were probably the best we have had. The ambience was really cool and laid back. I wasn't sure what to expect concerning the hookah aspect but when I walked in, the aroma was really nice and pleasant. Must try if you are in the Clear Lake area. read more
