I was a regular, untill 12/26/2025, been eating there for 9 years. The food is usualy good and the service is usualy good. However the day in mention the cook burnt my burgers to a blackened crisp. Complained about it and was told that I ordered it well done, when in fact I ordered it lightly cooked. The woman then proceded to call me a liar, got in my face and told me I was being rude. I finaly after arguing with her for awhile got her to fix the order. But after being yelled at and called a liar, and being served blackened burgers, I will not eat here ever again. For the record I have never in my entire life order burnt food, nor have I ever been treated so badly at a resturant. read more

Completely understand why they have been in business for 39 years and have two locations in Rome. Husband and I both had the pork plate with slaw and potato salad. Their sides are made in house and fresh daily which is a big plus. We were waited on and served with a smile and the cool also came out to check on us. First of all no one was ahead of us in the drive thru, and there was no one on the other side of the drive thru either. Why did we have to wait 5 minutes b for someone inside to casually walk up front to realize oh wow someone is at the window. There was no sign I saw with a menu or anything so I asked the girl if we could have some menus and a minute. Tapped on the window to let her know we were ready. Gave her the order with a couple of questions and add ons and twice she said one second, shut the window, and walked to the back. The second time she apologized and said sorry I don't work here so I'm having to ask the lady in the back....you don't work here but you are taking our order? Ok.... After the 2nd request for a modification she called back to the lady in the back who came up and knew what she was actually doing thank God. Unfortunately though whether it was the lady who was making our food or someone else, they got it wrong. Absolutely wonderful, authentic bbq. We got pulled pork plates and a burger. Both were tender, flavorful, & so good. The peach cobbler is a MUST have! Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean and had the cutest decor. We will be back if we go through GA again! read more

I had a good ole basic burger. I enjoyed it but was also very hungry. My boyfriend had chicken, peach cobbler and potato salad and gives the place 5 stars. He actually went to buy the food, my burger was to-go so I didn't see what else was on the menu. No complaints with my burger but it was pretty regular. A good regular. read more

They don't keep any critical reviews viewable on their FB page, so you can't trust any reviews there. Make sure you repeat your order and check it before leaving!!! Most of the staff was hanging out the other window talking to someone when I ordered, asking for my breakfast sandwich plain & cut in 1/2. Ended up with EXTRA Mayo and not cut at all. Don't eat Mayo, so it was a total throw away. They got the drink right, so there's that. Not a great start on Christmas Eve. Do what I should have and go to another place you thought of first! Service is crazy slow and obviously not accurate. Too many other places to go to. Don't waste your time or money. read more

The mother and daughter owners of both locations are some of the nicest people I know. They have great food, friendly service and they honestly care about their customers. They are treated like family. The block parties during the summer are so much fun. I appreciate all their dedication. I hear their catering is excellent too. read more

Oh, this place was rough. Driving through Rome today, came across this little shack, thought "that'll probably be good!" It wasn't. I've tasted pulled pork before like this before and it was microwaved and from a can. If not that, it had the consistency of something that's been sitting in a crockpot for 24hours. I kind of hate to badmouth the place since it has so many other positive ratings. During a recent storm it was just easier to stop in there and get a lunch to go than it was going someplace I had to walk through the rain to get to...and I was bored with the typical fast food burgers and chicken. My order for the pulled pork sandwich and an order of fries was taken promptly. I had to wait just a while for what I was told to give them time to make fresh fries. No problem with that. The wait and service were acceptable. I got my order and made the short drive back to the house so the meal was still warm when I sat down to eat it. That is where the pleasure stopped. I was expecting a good authentic tasting bbq sandwich but it was far off target and tasted more like those canned bbq concoctions that you would either microwave or heat up on the stove top. Instead of pulled pork it was closer to pork mush. It was way too wet and the sauce was completely unremarkable. The flavor wasn't bad but it was just disappointing. Having been told that my wait was so they could finish a fresh batch of fries I was also disappointed in them. They might have been freshly fried but they tasted and had the texture of fries that had been cooked much earlier and reheated. I really really wanted to like this place but I have to say that there is no way I could recommend the place and I certainly not return for another try. read more

We ordered fries and a bbq sandwich today 12/3. The fries were so greasy it seemed like they had been dropped in grease and put in the bag. The bun for the bbq was soaking wet. We have eaten here many times but this was the worse. She forgot the fries and I think she just dropped some in the grease and didn't even bother to drain them. Here is our impression of the Ole Tymer BarBQue: Fantastic! We had read some earlier reviews that were lousy and honestly can't understand why. Anyone who has ever actually eaten here will give it at least 4 stars, maybe 5 like we did. Here's the lowdown: If you like GOOD BBQ, this is your joint. Sure it's a tiny place (this location has no 'eat in' spot, just a drive through) but they DO offer a wooden picnic bench if you can't wait and have to eat it here. I can sort of understand that sentiment because we wanted to wolf it down right when we received it as well! The women running the drive through windows are courteous, helpful, friendly, and professional. They were great to talk to and took our order with an air of helpfulness and ease. They assured us that our choices were some of the best they had to offer, and they were RIGHT. They were so friendly they even asked us if we had tried their peach cobbler and when we said we hadn't they gave us some to try, on the house. I can honestly say I've never eaten better peach cobbler. And all their stuff is home made...you can't beat that. We tried two different dinner plates, the pork and the beef. Each came with a generous helping of two side orders (our choice; we both chose the homemade potato salad and the delicious BBQ beans) along with bread and pickles. At their suggestion we decided upon the hamburger bun for the bread portion and it was a perfect accompaniment to our bbq meats. They even gave us a huge portion of their yummy bbq sauce to take home in case we wanted more than what they put on top of the meat. The price for our two meals together came to $17. We could not believe it, all that food (we didn't finish our meals) plus it was homemade and delicious for under a 20 dollar bill! In a way I'm glad more people weren't lined up here because we were able to get our food and be on our way in less than 20 minutes but I'm surprised. I would think the way the people at the window act PLUS the delicious homemade food, there would be a line around the block all day long. Run, don't walk to this awesome bbq joint in a state filled with delicious bbq. This place stands head and shoulders above the rest of the them in our opinion. By the way, the staff told us they do breakfast offerings from 6 am till 11 and their biscuits are to die for. We will be back again while we are still visiting Georgia to check that out! Fours stars more because they are no doubt the friendly staff in Rome. I am really picky about BBQ and their sauce is a little sweet so do wish they had a vinger or mustard or even spicy choice. However if you love a sweeter taste to your BBQ and want to eat at a place that deserves and works hard for your business this is it! read more

Brunswick stew, no, pulled pork, not good, chicken sandwich consisted of dry chicken breast on a bun, no seasoning, no sauce , even the French fries were unevenly cooked, some even raw Only thing redeemable is the peach cobbler & great service. The barbecue, sides, and brunswick stew are okay; nothing to write home about but no real reason to complain either. But the breakfast is where it's at. The biscuits are huge with tons of meat, egg, and cheese to satisfy anyone. The employees are always very friendly and make you feel like they genuinely appreciate your patronage in the way only a small business can. Expect to wait a bit if you go for breakfast - it's their busiest time - but it's well worth it. I live very close so I'll definitely be eating here regularly. read more

I'm right there with Thom M. who posted back in September. I was out for a drive and wanted BBQ. I saw this place on the side of the road and decided to stop in because it looked like a good, hole-in-the-wall restaurant who advertise BBQ in their name. I ordered several things because I wanted to taste how authentic it was. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, potato salad, fried squash, and fried okra. The lady who took my order and brought it to me was very nice and courteous. That is the only positive for this restaurant. I took one bite of the BBQ sandwich and it was store bought. Something out of the frozen food section or from a can. I took a bite of the potato salad. They had to have bought it from a local grocery. It was cheap tasting and bland. I ate the okra, but it was just another bagged okra from a company or frozen section (very close to what you'd get at other places who provide breaded okra). The most authentic food on the plate was the fried squash. I believe it was legitimate, but that was the only thing. I left the food on the plate and walked out, but I did leave a tip because the customer service was great - the food wasn't. I demonstrated this by leaving 95% of my food on the table. If they have a review above two stars, they are probably family members or coworkers. If you know what good food is, you'll keep driving. read more

This is a small building with outside eating; or you can opt to use one of their two drive up windows. I eat here often, they offer fast and friendly service. The pork plate and the lg. pork sandwich are my favorites. I have heard the breakfast is really good; however, I have not had a chance to get there for breakfast as of this time. The pork bbq plate is pleantiful with meat (searved with a sweet tomato sauce) and two sides. Super casual & comfy place. We even placed considerate call to them letting them know they may want to throw out their coleslaw as other patrons may find more glass in their orders...which could prevent a huge law suit. First time in. Was not greeted at the door and didn't know whether to order at counter, wait to he seated, or seat then order from table. We asked at the counter and young man said "you can order here". We found the menus as they were not offered nor selections posted on walls or boards anywhere. We ordered and sat down. We ordered bbq sandwiches, fries, and drinks. We were not checked on again for refills or otherwise. I informed the lady, who brought food to table, that my bbq was cold and her reply was "that's probably because of the cole slaw" and walked away. No concern. The bbq was comparable to what you might get at a local grocery store deli. Did not taste smoked. I have had more flavor when I cook my own bbq pork in a crock pot at home.
