Seems to be very popular in Cartersville. When you first walk in, you can smell the true barbecue, inviting you to come all the way to the service counter. Atmosphere is very country, just the way people who eat pulled pork, ribs, baked beans, slaw, and barbecue chicken would like it. You really can't find this kind of 0mom and pap type of joint in a very urban area. Even the parking lot was a good old gravel parking area in the heart of the city. My tree friends all enjoyed their meals. One said that: "The porkloin was so soft and tender." The other one said that her Brunswick stew was awesome, and my third friend loved her barbecue chicken salad. So the food is good. I took their word for it. I chose to have a slice of lemon pie because I can't eat barbecue. I wish that they served coffee, but it was fine with a cup of water. Simple and sweet, and not expensive at all. As far as the staff goes, I only saw one lady in the kitchen. However, there were several middle-aged gentlemen wearing blue aprons bringing food to the tables, checking on customers, and cleaning tables. Overall, it was a nice experience. I would invite someone here who likes Barbecue but does not expect to have a five-star dining.

Passing through town, we decided to stop at a locally owned restaurant instead of a fast food place. We were pleased with our food! Everything was reasonably priced & the portions were generous. We ordered the lunch special BBQ sandwich & the loaded baked potato. I really liked the potato with bbq sauce, cheddar cheese & a side of pickles it was a good lunch! We sat on the covered porch & enjoyed our tea. The servers, who might have been some local high schoolers, were excellent hosts- they brought out the food to our table!

Best Barbecue anywhere. They don't drown it in sauce, but you have some on the side. Good iced tea, and the staff is just excellent.

I sat and a busy bartender was advised by the hostess I had ordered take out. Bartender asked what name was on the order. A few minutes passed and someone came from the kitchen empty handed and spoke with the bartender. After the bartender finished making and delivering a few drinks they asked if the order was called in or done online. I indicated online and she went to the kitchen and came back empty handed straight to bartending again. No one ever said anything, but it was obvious that they had overlooked the order. And I will say this, they did a good job of recovering because about 10 minutes later everything was packaged and ready for me to carry out. The food was good and I suspect that if you go to eat there, you'll have a good experience. It reminds me of an old time neighborhood bar and steakhouse. Most seemed very comfortable there which would lead me to believe that it is a pretty loyal following of locals who utilize the restaurant. It's a pretty average noise level nothing overpowering. Ribs we ordered were tasty and the salad fresh and crispy. It's a better dine in choice than takeaway option.

They're exactly my style, great smoke flavor, great rub, and while tender they have a bit of a bite to them. Just the way I like it. The Mac and cheese was just like mom makes it, amazing. I got the spicy green beans and they were also tasty. The collards, what can I say, my wife could NOT stop talking about how good the collards greens were they were the first thing gone from her plate. The BBQ sauce was a bit sweet which normally isn't my thing but there is some secret ingredient in there I couldn't put my finger on that made me not be able to resist it. The smell of fresh burning wood and BBQ smoke made me hungrier than I already was. I was greeted by a very kind-hearted young woman (Part-owner). When I told her how I got there, we both laughed out loud and shared common thoughts on this experience. I ordered the brisket dinner w/Mac&cheese, spicy green beans and corn bread. We let him know that our son has celiac disease and it turned out that Nathan also has celiac disease. Because of this he was incredibly knowledgeable and thoughtful in helping us navigate the menu and choose safe options for our son. Even better our son was able to connect with Nathan and swap stories about living gluten free which meant so much to us as parents. That personal connection truly made the experience special. The atmosphere is fantastic and feels like a true cellar tucked away in the basement giving it such a cool and unique vibe. It felt like a hidden gem and a really fun place to discover. I also had a gluten free apple cider that was made locally and it was hands down one of the best ciders I have ever had. Between the outstanding service the care shown for food allergies and the unique setting this was an unforgettable visit. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend The City Cellar and Loft to anyone especially families navigating celiac disease.

So we thought we would treat our son and his wife (new parents of a 2 month old) for a nice dinner out as a family (sans baby). Service was slower than normal, but that wasn't the real issue. Our entrees were delivered before our soup and salads. They offered to take our entrees away and "keep them warm" until after our soup and salads came out. So we agreed. Our son's French onion soup was delivered just luke warm - not even hot. The salads were fine, though. Our daughter-in-law's steak was ordered medium rare, but it came out rare so it had to be sent back. Our son's chicken fingers were also undercooked and had to be sent back, but only after our son had already eaten some of the undercooked chicken. I ordered the signature "Appalachian Grill" dish and the potatoes were burnt. At this point there were so many issues that we asked to talk to the manager and he offered to remove the signature dish from the bill. Our son and his wife were so turned off that they couldn't even eat their "corrected" entrees. The bill came and it was over $150. The only food that we actually ate was the Pickles and Pups appetizer and 3 salads. I asked for the servers and managers names and made it clear that I was going to write a review and that we would not be coming back. After we placed our credit card on the check, the owner came out to our table and began to cuss us out. When I told him I would be writing a reivew, his response was "I am the king of 1 star reviews" and asked us to leave. So we grabbed our credit card and proceeded to leave. After we left the restaurant he approached us at our car and proceeded to threaten us and even called me a "punk ass bitch." I should've called the police becasue we were already outside at our car and it looked like he was going to physically attack us. Our son and his wife were waiting for us outside and witnessed his tirade. Our daughter-in-law was terrified that the ower was going to get physically violent. There was no reason for him to follow us outside and continue to berate us at our vehicle as we were in the process of leaving. Either the owner was intoxicated or he needs to go to anger management. I regret not calling the police.
