I love everything about this place! The humble, quaint, and familiar aesthetic makes me feel right at home with family. Always greeted and seated in a timely manner, bread and salads come out quick, and drinks are always filled up promptly. I really love the steaks here, I've tried the ribeyes, filets, and prime rib. I am willing to say that these are the best steaks I've EVER had in my life. The crust, the sear, the seasoning are AMAZING!! Steakhouses don't have to be big and elegant buildings people! I don't care how good the food is if you have to wait over an hour to get seated THEN wait another hour and 15 minutes to get your meal! The place was so packed on Saturday night, the only thing our server could say was "the grill is backed up". If I ever go back, it will be on a Thursday to avoid the crowds. read more

WOW, what an amazing meal. My wife and I and four friends ate here for the first time on mother's day and omg was it good. I'm talking really good. Best steak I've had in a while, so juicy and flavorful and cooked to perfection. Great mashed potatoes and salad. My wife got the smoked pork chop and I tried a bite of it and I have to say wow again, so delicious. And their homemade desserts were amazing and so good. All our friends were going on about how delicious their food was too. The waitress did an excellent job waiting on us with the place packed out. There is nothing that isn't absolutely amazing at Ole Gin Mill! The staff is wonderful make you feel like family and the food is the best! Ate this evening (8/29) and it was a really great experience! Everything fried was crispy but not greasy (excellent hush puppies!) and the steak special was a great value. Service was on point, and the entire place has a relaxed home style vibe our family appreciated. In my opinion the star of the show wasn't my steak- it was the peanut butter pie! Ribeye and they were cooked just right, the dinner salad was very fresh, baked sweet potatoes were melt in your mouth delicious and the fried mushrooms were an excellent appetizer. Heard about Ole Gin and have been trying to get up there to check it out... one word - Fantastic! Breanna took GREAT care of us and made sure everything was perfect - even the GF/DF needs of the wife! Owner (didn't catch his name) came by and is a super nice, down to earth good guy - you can tell quickly talking to him, and it trickles down to his employees! The steaks were extremely delicious- very good flavor and cooked perfectly to our request. Baked sweet potatoes were the best we've ever had! The decor/ambiance is a step back in time! Was attending a conference up in Guntersville when one of my colleagues suggested this place. So, we all decided to get dinner there. Even though the place was hard to find, we eventually arrived. The service was top notch and I had one of the best ribeye steaks I have ever eaten. I mean the kind where you don't need any sauce!!! I definitely will go back next time I am in that area. Great steaks. Appetizers very good and plenty of it. Large "side" salad..tasty. Restaurant is an old maintenance bar/shed....big and open. Smoke rising into ceiling and wafting smells of cooking making you hungry. Steaks were excellent! Wonderfully nice owner darting around welcoming each table, taking pictures with his phone, and helping out as needed. All in all, ambience great, staff friendly and helpful, food excellent. Don't expect high end city fine dining, just damn good food! Oh, my wive had the blackberry cobbler and said was the best she ever had in a restaurant. I didn't get a picture of the food but OH MY GRACIOUS! Our group literally all had the sampler platter, pimento dip, ribeye, mahi mahi, and burger. Don't sit on the pimento dip! It was absolutely Devine especially with the sausage. The sample platter has a little of everything all fried- the fried pickle spears were my favorite but the fried corn was good too. I didn't have any of the biscuits but our group faved about them also. The mahi was cooked perfectly and juicy! The ribeye, yall! It was PERFECT. Perfectly cooked and so tender. This is a superb steakhouse that happens to be in an old cotton gin shell of a building. It's rustic and great for families, the folks that take care you are a family, it just works. Do not let location and atmosphere fool you, this is a big city quality steak they are delivering on a plate to your table. Me personally, I love the building and decor, it's real and rustic, makes you feel good, other items beyond steak are great as well but the steak, it's what's for dinner!!! Drive about 45 min to come visit this place. With extended family. We waited about 20 min to be seated. Food was , good but I did not feel it reflected the pretty high prices for this area. Fried green tomatoes were good. Best part was dessert strawberry short cake and chocolate Bundt cake. I would like to add while a appreciated the authentic untouched old gin interior, it was dusty inside and I was tore up by mosquitoes while eating. It was very very cold inside the resturant. The service was fantastic, parking limited. The price of the steaks were a little high. The menu was was quite limited. The catfish was very good as was the desert. The salad at $2.69 was disappointing. The one thing that bothers me is children (child) should not be allowed in the kitchen actually stirring the biscuit batter.
