There were 4 workers that I could tell and they were processing through the customers quickly. I only waited about 10 minutes and my time at the window was less than 5 minutes. Friendly service. I went out of my way to explain exactly what I needed. She told me it had to be inspected first by the sherriff. I took it to the sherriff location and he said it had to be titled before he could inspect it. He was upset at me because I was doing what I was told. This location is mismanaged and is in dire need of qualified management. If Bobbie Holsclaw can't manage the location better than this, it's time to vote her out of office.

I had to visit this location twice over the winter. First visit: To have something corrected on our marriage license since the Middletown location made yet another mistake(the lady out there made a half-dozen mistakes on our license, five of which we caught when we were there). This was a simple in-out. The lady told us we could've waited until we filed it to have them correct(white it out)/to save us a trip, but I didn't want to wait(a-n-x-i-e-t-y about such things). Second visit: A return to drop off and file the marriage. Again.. a simple in-out during a snowy time in the city. We went ahead and paid for 2 certified copies. Both times were great. The employees were nice, helpful, and talkative(without doing too much). Parking seems to be easier downtown now... they have signs posted around for street parking so you can text a number and pay/reload your time. I like that. Every city should implement it. The building is also an old courthouse, so it has that historical flair. Good visit. If I ever need to go in for tag renewal, I wouldn't hesitate to use the downtown branch again.

Government services. Glory day. Not always everyone's favorite thing to do…read more This social security office isn't terrible though. We had to visit to apply for my wife's social security card. Immigration Note: The immigration documents have a checkbox that after a green card approval, USCIS will send over your paperwork to the SSA to save yourself a trip. The problem? As far as I can tell, USCIS doesn't do this and the people we asked at the SSA about this didn't seem to know anything about this checkbox on the immigration forms. So with that, we had to setup an appointment for her social security card. (I still want to know the mechanism that sees the checked box and forwards the paperwork from USCIS to the SSA-if anyone knows this, send me a message and let me know---Just curious). The process was simple. The staff was nice. My only peeve was the appointment scheduling. They tell you that you need an appointment but that's mainly to stop hundreds of people from descending on the office at any given time. We scheduled and showed up 20ish minutes before our designated time. When you check in, you're put in a queue. It has nothing to do with your actual appointment time. We were seen 45 minutes after our appointment time but there were people there that had waited much longer that day. We were told the card would be here in 7-10 days. We received it in a week.

I attended a developer panel where the topic was about getting your first job in the industry. They…read morehad four speakers which introduced themselves and spoke about their first job experiences both good and bad. It was a very interesting and informative meetup. I believe that a little over ninety people attended. The venue was nice. The only negative thing that I have to say, which didn't have anything to do with the meetup itself, but it was with the concern of leaving the building. Once leaving, a group of us decided to take the stairs because there was only 1 elevator. We was on the 4th floor. Once we got to the 1st floor to exit the building , the door was locked. So, we had to walk back to the 4th floor, which once we got there, that door was also locked, so we was trapped in the staircase. Luckily, people was still waiting on the elevator and they heard us knocking. To me, that was very dangerous. But, besides that, I enjoyed the venue and the meetup.

I had a great experience at the Crittenden Drive location in Louisville. I went there to see about…read moregetting a replacement for my misplaced passport card. It was super busy but the employees had everything under control. There were several customers for whom English was a second language who sometimes struggled to communicate. There was a woman with a rambunctious child there for services. The staff helped each of us with the same friendliness and respect. I very much appreciated the kindness and patience exhibited toward marginalized community members from a government facility. A woman named Becky, I believe, waited on me. She was efficient and informative. I didn't expect to be able to actually get my picture for my passport card taken an application submitted today, but once she realized I had brought proper documentation, Becky let me know I had time to fill out the papers and get it done before the 3pm cut off time. The process was quick and very organized. It was all women working as far as I could see and these ladies had it together! They had positive attitudes with all of the customers and with one another. They gave the impression that they enjoyed their jobs. I will definitely go back to this location when I need USPS services again.

A beautiful place, from the outside it looks like a library should, especially if you park on the…read morestreet. Stone steps lead up to the main entrance; there is one around the back as well with a wheelchair ramp. Book drops in the back and front- if you enter through the back, you get to see what events are going on in the various libraries (and grab a copy of the LEO and Audience, if you're into it) while the front treats you to the books of the month as well as what the Crescent Hill Book Club is reading. The librarians are very nice and quite helpful- they are always willing to take the time to explain how to properly use the copier and print things out, as well as hand over whatever knowledge is available about google, gmail, and various word processing programs. There is a reading room on the main floor in the periodicals section. Sometimes the odd person thinks it's OK to take a phone call in there, but it isn't. You get the stink-eye, you get spoken to, and you get unpopular, fast. It's also tempting to photograph articles in the current magazines for later reading/use. The librarians don't mind actually- but they do want you to read what you take. There is also a reading room downstairs amidst books on tape/CD, but they are quick to recommend Libby. The library seems to have a great collection of cookbooks, decent adult fiction selection, skimpy poetry, good history section. The children's area looks fun- there is a castle and a children's librarian that sits in there. One note- for a Louisville library, the horses/horse care area is a bit lacking.

Since the two library branches that are closest to me (literally walking distance!) are either…read moreclosed forever (RIP Highlands/Shelby Park) or closed for a real long time and under construction (Main/Downtown, please open again POSTHASTE), I have been exploring other branches here and there. It was time to try out the Crescent Hill Branch! It is inviting looking...like it LOOKS like an older library. Charming as heck. Inside feels a little cramped, like there aren't a lot of stacks. But I don't actually do a lot of browsing at libraries, I mostly pick up holds and do work or read. I did enjoy the reading room on the first floor here. It was a bit loud. Like I know a library isn't totally silent, but it was surprisingly noisy during my time there. I did get there as school was letting out and there is a school on the same block, but I don't think it was that. I think the building allows things to echo and amplify. I really like that they have a parking lot. A big boon to patrons! I will absolutely be back to this branch at some point, at least until the main branch reopens. But it is well-situated and welcoming.
