i've been eating here off and on for a number of years now, I like their breakfast and the atmosphere is nice. The only beef I have is that after ordering broiled scallop dinner , is the small portion , The cup of soup was very small, it was a three bite salad , and the five scallops I received turned out to be about five dollars a piece, although the food was very good, to me, The portion did not equal the price . I must say that I do enjoy this place, especially after a night of a few drinks. The food is tasty. Yes, it is a little greasy...probably why a hangover breakfast is great here. They have fast service and the servers are all nice. I have had the eggs Benedict which they put their own twist on. They use Bernaise Sauce instead of Hollandaise sauce which was good. They also serve it with broccoli which I ask them not to add to my plate. I love broccoli just not with my breakfast. Also, any egg, bacon,and hash meal is also very good. Always hot coffee. There is one thing I never understand about this place though...before you get seated there is an area where they sell stuff, niknak stuff...magnets, beanie babies like things, just stuff. If prefer to give it zero stars and I'm very generous saying that! I wish I never stopped in. This used to be one of my favorite breakfast places. Was feeling nostalgic after being away for a few years and came in to have the worst omelette I've had in my whole life. I ordered a western with an extra egg and jalapeños and no sides... I got a folded omelette without much presentation, which I couldn't care too much about, but there wasn't an extra egg, and mine came with maybe 2 teaspoons of tiny diced ham for my meat portion, and tiny chunks of egg shells. I'm so displeased with this meal, that I created a Yelp account to complain. Not sure what happened to this place, but if I order one thing only, please make that one thing tasty. Still feeling the egg shells crack against my teeth and it's pretty disgusting. The waitress did say she would have it replaced, but I'm not willing to eat anything else this "cook" is making. Coffee was fine and I was seated fast and they took my order promptly. I imagine the options with carbs are much better. If you're an omelette person like me, avoid this place completely. I don't want to eat or spend my money somewhere that doesn't put care into my order. $11.36 wasted. read more

So we came down from Boston to Mohegan Sun, and after a night of the usual gambling/drinking were looking for a local spot to grab breakfast before heading home (one can only take so much processed casino food, after all!) Going on the suggestion of fellow Yelper Daniel S. We decided to check this place out...after doing so, I must say Yes Daniel, we do thank you later! We got seated right away and our waiter Daniel was both very attentive & knowledgeable about the menu (he quickly answered the few questions we had without looking at the menu as if it was the first time he had seen it.) The food was also great, particularly the home fries which were seasoned just right and not too soggy/greasy. Also a hit was the Cinnamon Crisps (think french toast meets a cinnamon donut...yum!) So if you've ever been in a Crackle Barrel the vibe of this restaurant will ring familiar to you. Very country ketchy atmosphere with mini woodsy gift shop. The food was AWESOME. I had the tropical (coconut, pecans,powdered sugar) pancakes with some kielbasa. SO YUMMY. It didn't need syrup luckily because the syrup they gave me was a McDonalds-esue plastic container of maple flavored corn syrup. This is a nice family owned place. Great for breakfast but also wonderful for dinner. They do give a military discount for active duty members. I really like eating here but on Sundays its crazy. Its almost like trying to get in an exclusive club. The food is wonderful. So far I have had the chicken-fried steak, bacon cheese burger, and the Ultimate breakfast sandwich. They were are all perfect. The only thing that is they DO NOT TAKE PLASTIC, cash only. Bummer I know but its all worth it in the end. She tried to blame it on the kitchen but she needs to take some ownership for not following up. We got up and left and I told the front desk. Needs Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares to show up...... This is so close to my house and I still cant go anymore. Staff is friendly and it is oldstyle rustic inside which I like..but the food is not very good. The only good thing used to be the pot roast and they took it off the menu. The breakfast is subpar and the muffins are always from the previous day it seems like. Place has really gone down hill in the past 2 years. After a relatively successful Mohegan trip, my darlin' and I were lookin' for some morning grub. A Yelp search and subsequent Google Places search yielded no nearby options - just a few in towns farther away, so we decided to drive until we saw something that looked good. Well lo and behold, the "something" we saw was one of those options listed in one of those farther away towns: Olde Tymes Restaurant. Having passed about eight Dunkin' Donuts prior to this discovery, we said "what the hell" and pulled in. We were seated right away at a table upstairs. The place seems like it should be in North Country, NY. Our table was practically in the upstairs prep kitchen, and there was a girl (server? busgirl?) who just stood and stared at our table through breakfast .. as Pauly D would say: "AWK! ward!" The food was slightly slow but it was a busy morning, so all is forgiven there. It was actually a darn good meal. The bill was a little higher than was warranted for the overall food + atmosphere. I love bringing the wife and kids here for breakfast on the weekends. This place is pretty traditional and has its own touch on morning breakfast. They serve juice in mason jars, which I thought as pretty cool. The eggs are fresh, the pancakes are huge, and the coffee as always hot. And you always get a slice of fresh orange with your meal. There is usually a wait, unless you get there nice and early, which is usually when I get there, since my kids happen to always get up at the ass crack of dawn - even on the weekends...ahhh... I haven't been here in years (probably over 18) but last night we figured it was time to try it out since we moved back into the area. Upon walking in we saw Rodney (owner) getting into his car and the parking lot had about 15 cars in it. We proceeded into the restaurant. We waited by the cashier who had 3 people trying to cash out while two waitresses were running around as if the place was a full house (not one greeted us or even said hi while passing by us). I only saw approx 4 tables (9 people) in the main dining room and 3 sets of 2 people across the front of restaurant. After waiting to even be greeted one waitress who was frazzled and swearing running around the front of house that she needed to put the already empty restaurant on a 10 minute wait. It was def a train wreck for no reason in my opinion as we didn't the reason for such poor quality of service at all. After so many years I thought just maybe this local restaurant would have gotten their act together but it seems it's only employed the same people that it had from 20 years ago. Stress is in every job but if you can't handle the heat then you probably should get out of the kitchen. read more

Not being from southeast CT and in the area for my son's hockey game, we were hoping to find a good, local joint for breakfast. This place offered us a great breakfast. I got the the lobster omelet and my buddy got the biscuits and gravy. We got there around 10am on a Sunday morning and there was no wait. Shortly after that, there was a good size line to get in- must have been an after-church crowd. You can tell this place has a bit of a history in Norwich. What a great little hidden gem! We found the restaurant on google, just trying to find a place for breakfast while staying at a hotel going to Mohegan Sun. We arrived around 10am and were promptly seated at a comfy booth. Our server was Heather, she came right over and had such a great smile and personality, really nice to have a pleasant encounter with a server!! A staple of Norwich, as long as I can remember. The portion size and value is off the charts. However, the quality of the food, sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. Usually, you cannot go wrong going to Old Tymes for breakfast, their selection is huge and your coffee mug never gets empty. Lunch is pretty good too, lots of soup and sandwich choices. Dinner is hit or miss, I've left there happy with my meal some nights and other nights I've told myself I'm not going back. One issue I've brought to mgmt's attention, was the mashed potatoes, I've been there on 3 occasions and the potatoes have been overly sweet and even vanilla flavored. It was strange, the response I got from mgmt was, "that can't be, the bakery isn't near the kitchen." I and my family, know what we tasted, it was vanilla. Moral of the story, try Old Tymes for breakfast, or even lunch. But I'd choose some place else for dinner. read more

Dropped in with my 3 kids after a long night shift for what I hoped would be a quick breakfast. Staff was so very friendly but we spent so much time sitting at the table waiting even though it wasn't that busy and there appeared to be a lot of staff. We were there nearly 1.5 hours for a very basic breakfast. The menu choices sounded great, but you could tell just by looking at everything when it came out that it had been sitting awhile. Cold eggs, burnt but cold toast (really?!?!?), burnt but cold biscuits. Kids french toast was like rubber. When I asked my 8-year-old what he thought about his pancakes he asked, "when we get home can you make me some that aren't cold?" I definitely will next time. read more

I didn't care for the potatoes, they had either too much Smokey paprika or the grill needed to be cleaned a little better. They were more mushy than crispy. The omelette was good, had that undertone taste like the potatoes. Their apple crisp surprise is French toast deep fried. It's like a carnival fritter. The pancakes were eggy but crispy which was different. Price for what you got was a little high. Bill was $23 with juice and a coffee. Went for breakfast there on Saturday morning around 11 AM. The place was packed as usual for a weekend breakfast. We were seated right away and the waitress was fine. Took a bit longer than usual for the food, but no big deal as it was crowded. Meal came and it was good. The problem we had, and I hate to be cruel, but when we went to pay our bill at the front desk the young man working there had a horrible body oder problem. It was actually quite difficult to even stand a cross the counter from him to pay. So rather than leaving the restaurant talking about how good the breakfast was, we left feeling pretty grossed out and talking about how much we couldn't wait to leave. I know it's a delicate subject, but at a restaurant the management should pay attention to something as simple as a massive hygiene problem with their employees. We had 3 cars leaving Mohegan Sun after a night of debauchery looking for a bite to eat before the 2 hour plus drive home. 10 rowdy hungry people and our expectations were surpassed! Our server was Tracy and she was the best server I think I've ever had! She was so personable, funny and nice! All 10 of us felt the same way, we invited her to hang out with us when she got off of work, of course that's far away from the restaurant but wish she lived closer. The menu was huge, I couldn't decide what to get, eggs, sandwich, turkey special, fried chicken and waffles, prime rib.... So much more! I ended up getting scrambled eggs with cheese and fix-ins, home fries and corn beef hash. It was delish but the dish that wowed me was the bone in buffalo wings.... Amazeballs!! The biscuits and muffins were also phenomenal. The place itself is quirky, with rustic decor and 2 floors of seating, and the stairwell was quite unique with actual rug lining the walls (never saw that before). I have to give a shout out to Michelle and Christopher, too (don't worry, you're adorable and you'll find love soon! ) To sum it up, we'll definitely be back if we're in the area again, and will be sure to ask for Tracy!
