We were looking for a place to eat breakfasy before going to Mt Airy flea market. So we tried Old Town Restaurant. I got peanut butter banana stuffed french toast. My husband got the barnyard omlet. They are both delicious. The portion was very generous. I got an assortment of pestry to go. Should have asked for the price before. Such a sweet little spot! Had an amazing breakfast with a friend here and it was jammed pack (and for a reason)! I ended up with the Breakfast Scramble and was given a generous portion for the price point! Roast beef is sliced deli meat-kinda rubbery, not what u would think when it says slow roasted. And the gravy was Cold. Don't go within an hour of closing time-they rudely remind u they will be closing. Waitress was unfriendly and made us feel like an inconvenience. Fish and chips was good though. read more

If you were here over 5 years ago - forget everything. Just before the fire it was taken over by new management who have changed all of the bad and improved the food by leaps and bounds (I have zero idea what that really means) After the fire the place reopened and I'm sure disappointed regulars who were used to the same menu and service that had not changed since Moses. Now it's clean, fresh, good fun food and good service. If you can see the way these young girls work a full room (there's usually a wait) and leave a small tip you MUST have a small .....wallet. My friend wrote a review yesterday following our experience, and somehow it's been removed... I ordered a salad and my friend ordered a panini. It took forever. My salad had a hair, so I was very discrete and polite and sent it back. A "new" salad was brought to me and looked a bit more tossed around than the one before. It had the same hair on it so I sent it back and passed on lunch. I could see in the kitchen, and saw the bearded guy throwing food into the fryer say, "that wasn't mine I had one last week." I assume it was his. My girls enjoyed their hotdogs (which for some reason are 3.5 on the regular menu and 7 on the kids menu) and my friend was so grossed out she couldn't eat her sandwich. This is a cozy place in the old town section of Mt. Airy MD. There is plenty of free parking on the street, on a side road, and in a large lot behind the buildings on the opposite side of the street. We had no wait at 8AM on a Saturday but my buddy tells me it can fill up quickly. The service is good and the food prepared well. The breakfast menu is fairly extensive and includes many waffle, pancake, and omelet choices in addition to the standard eggs platters. They have some vegetarian choices. The prices are reasonable, Several groups had kids that seemed very pleased with their pancakes and waffles. I'll be going back for sure. When you're done you can wander to the toy train store and the archery/fishing/hunting store which are both across the street. Very nice. read more

This is your storybook small town restaurant. It's authentic. Great counter seating or tables. Gets crowded. Seating close together. Food is very good. The breakfasts are very good. This isnt fancy food but it's very good food. This is where you go to have really good meatloaf or fried chicken. Ive never had a bad meal here. They don't Serve alcohol I don't think. Awesome milk shakes though! Try it if you are in town. Seems like they are open all day! Probably closed Monday as many businesses on Main Street in mount airy are. read more

We have been for breakfast a few times. My husband loves the Country Chicken breakfast sandwich... It is huge! My son loves the pancakes, and I love love love the peanut butter and banana stuffed French toast. The home fries are just how I like them - small chunks of red skin potatoes cooked perfectly, with a little onion and well seasoned. The place gets crowded and sometimes the servers make you feel rushed. However coffee was always refilled and food came out right every time. Good home cooked breakfast! The portion sizes are generous and priced reasonably. We can't wait to go for another meal later in the day sometime in the near future. read more

On a snow challenged weekend, we escape to Mount Airy to get out of the house. We are hungry so we check out a promising brick oven joint, but, it's closed. So off we go to the second choice, Olde Town Restaurant. We are glad we found this place. Aside from being hungry at the moment, we found the food hot, generous in portion size and very good. Good food, good price. We had 4 adults and 2 kids, no desert, the bill was about $60. The kitchen is small, and I only saw 2 people working it. Our group ordered everything between french toast to fried chicken, onion rings to fish. The food was cooked fresh, without a long wait. The only thing I would change would be the temperature. It was cold in the dinning area. Its a very charming restaurant, and the building must be over 100 years old. We plan on visiting there again. Its surrounded by other neat shops. Across the street is a sports store and a hobby store. A very busy dress store is next door, as well as a pottery place. read more

Anyway, I remember going to the Behind the Wheel driving school every week during one summer and eating at Olde Towne for lunch each break. It was your average greasy spoon filled with old townies. This was over seven years ago and apparently the place has gotten even better since then? I liked it when I went there before the fire, so I guess I'd like it now? Terrible Catering Experience These people were friendly and helpful... until we gave them a deposit. Then they stopped practically all communication. We had been communicating with a representative of their company- via her cell phone and email address, and no one bothered to tell us that she no longer worked for the company. We just kept sending her things and never hearing back until we finally decided to contact the owner, who then told us that the woman we had been speaking to no longer worked for the company and he would set us up with someone else. If we hadn't reached out, who knows when or if we would ever have been notified. The owner put us in contact with his wife, who was almost as bad as the woman who didn't work there. She was incredibly disorganized and it usually took about 5 phone calls/texts/emails to her before she would return any communication. That is a generous estimate. Eventually, we figured we would set up an in-person meeting with her to nail her down to get some answers to our questions. And she wasn't there. We called and texted until she eventually answered and admitted that she had forgotten all about it. To her credit, she did then drop everything and come to the meeting, 30 minutes late. At that very same meeting, we gave her the final head count and asked for the final amount that we owed her. This meeting was almost 5 weeks before our event. She said she would get back to us that same week. She didn't. She didn't get it to us the next week either. Or the next. She eventually sent us a message saying she would get it to us by the end of that day. She didn't. She didn't get it to us the next day either. Or the next. At some point, we decided to start calling or texting her every day until we heard, because at this point the wedding was very quickly approaching and their utter lack of communication had me concerned that they may not even show up on wedding day! She did not answer, call back, or respond. We finally decided to contact the owner again, when it had gotten to 5 ish DAYS before the wedding and we hadn't heard. He said that they usually like to have payment for a wedding 7 days in advance and that he would have her get back to us. Let me emphasize this- we absolutely would have had payment to them more than 7 days in advance, had we only known how much to pay them! And boy had we tried to find out! She did finally get us the number. Finally. Then, several days later, she sent me a message stating that she had forgotten what we wanted our cake to look like and that she needed me to resend her the images. Now, during all this, we had some other mishaps going on, and we were forced to change venues 36 hours pre-event, and they actually did handle that move very well. However, when the event actually happened, we were very unhappy with the quality of the food and the cake filling was not what we had asked for. When 25 of our guests got sick after the wedding, we initially suspected the caterer's food, due to its poor quality. The groom was violently ill for several days immediately following our wedding. We provided our own hors d'oerves and beverages, so it could have been from any of those things, or from a previously infected guest or any number of other sources. Regardless, we initially suspected their food and went to them with our concerns, and we were met with only hostility. Instead of listening to us, they were immediately defensive. They threatened to sue us and decided to launch a personal attack against the bride. We hired this company because it was cheapest. Don't make the same mistake we did! I strongly suggest going with literally ANY other caterer. read more

We were traveling thru from NJ to WV. The previous reviewers gave us the confidence to stop and I'm glad did. Breakfast was delicious. The home fries are amazingly tasty. Restaurant was clean. Servers are friendly and attentive. Teamwork must be part of the culture because they all seemed to work together to make sure everyone was attended to. Definitely worth the jump off the highway. Added bonus, Mt. Airy is a charming respite from the highway! read more

Absolutely love olde town. I've been going there since we moved here. My only issue is that the hours marked online or on the door are not accurate. I've had several instances where I went or called to order food and was told they were closed. Even though the posted hours say they are open. I've been here a couple times for breakfast, and they do serve up a nice breakfast/brunch. I haven't made it here for lunch, but if breakfast is any indication, this is a nice place for a small-town diner-like meal. The dining room is pretty small, not nearly big enough for how popular the place is, so on the weekends expect a wait, although it probably won't be a long one if you have a group of four or less. The service here varies. The first time I came here, the waitress had a I-couldn't-care-less-if-I-serve you attitude, which I couldn't figure out considering the place wasn't that busy. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she didn't really need the money - who knows. The next time I came, the waitresses were great, however the kitchen was having issues. We were seated such that I could see directly into the kitchen. Even though there were three guys in the kitchen, they seemed to be floundering. One guy mostly stood around, the other two ran around a lot but didn't seem to be getting anywhere. Maybe they were new, or maybe they don't know how to stack orders, but it seemed like there was a lot of activity, but orders weren't coming. With breakfast, I expect to get in and out pretty quickly, since nothing takes that much time to make. I felt bad for the waitresses, as their tips usually suffer as a result of problems in the kitchen. We were waiting with a hangry five year old, who was getting more and more hangry by the minute, which made the wait all the more intolerable. The pastries in the display case look great - and are in high demand, so they must be good! I hope this place gets their kinks worked out in the kitchen so they can move tables and make more mou-lah - the food is great, so they should be prospering from it! read more

Good place for a hearty breakfast. Son had the steak omelette, I had the western and fried, served hot and delicious. We've been there many times for breakfast, service and food are great. My only suggestion is the coffee; it can be improved. It may be time to trade the Bunn decanter for a Keurig. Good hometown atmosphere! read more

Well the weather was fine again so we put the top down and took another ride to Mt Airy to enjoy another meal at The Olde Towne Rest. I saw "Chile Dogs" on their menue. That's like saying "sic um dog" to an old timer like me. I had to have me a chile dog or two. Two chile dogs and some fries washed down with a soda pop. Heaven. Unfortunately I have never had a great experience here. I have been a few times hoping it was just a fluke. The food was okay but the service could have been better. The last time we went our card was charged not only for our meal but for another tables meal as well and it took over a week to resolve, which is excessive, and the person in charge if resolving the issue was not apologetic and was a bit rude. I will not be going back but I have friends who enjoy eating here on a regular basis, so it isn't all bad. read more

Dan the owner became a member of the mt airy fire company after the building next door caught on fire. He was so impressed at the attempt Mavfc made at trying to save his the business he bought on a month earlier he decided to join. Which brings me to my favorite dish. The "b shift" aka the best country fried steak on the planet. He name it after the b shift paramedics crew. You just have to try it. Other notable favorites is the garbage platter. This place doesn't look like much but, they sure do have great food. The menu is very impressive and the service is good but, slow. It's very tiny so you may need to wait for a table. I had eggs benedict topped with crab cakes and hollandaise. The crab cakes had good flavor despite being the cheaper version of a typical MD crab cake(not lump). It was served with oven roasted redskin potatoes(hash browns). They had a great flavor but could have used a bit more caramelization. My hubby got a mixture of eggs, potatoes, peppers, etc that was also very good. They also have excellent coffee. if you have to wait it is well worth it. read more

You don't have to be 'old Mt. Airy' to get a good meal here, I've never been disappointed. When I didn't like my breakfast steak, it was cheerfully replaced with sausage. That's the only thing I haven't liked in about a dozen meals. Fried chicken is very good, as are the burgers, chili, and salads. Not a huge fan of the crabcakes, which are more like crab croquettes. The 'garbage plate' is very good, as is the BBQ. And be sure to tip more than a nickel. read more

My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place a couple months ago, in the search for any pre-hike breakfast. It turned out to be one of our best finds in recent years. It's a bit small, but the service is fast. We've gone twice now and didn't have to wait either time. I ordered the blueberry pancakes on both occasions, because they are so very good. The blueberries were juicy and fresh, were cooked into the pancakes. (I've been to a couple of places that simply dumped cold fruit on top of pancakes. This practice is both lazy and wrong, and possibly a sign of the apocalypse.) The pancakes themselves were the best I've had since The Buttery, formerly of Baltimore's Mount Vernon, closed. On our first visit, my boyfriend ordered something else, which he also liked quite a lot. It involved eggs somehow. I wasn't paying much attention, since I was lost in the deliciousness of my pancakes. The only thing I don't care for is the fact that there are two TVs in the dining area. Mercifully, the sound is off on both of them. If I realize that this is now standard practice in restaurants, but I don't see why. Can't people live 30 minutes without staring at a flashing box? Worse, one of them is turned to Fox "News". I prefer my breakfast without a side order of political yammering. But everything else was so good, I couldn't bring myself to subtract any stars for this transgression. read more
