All the food I tried at Old Shalimar was rather average so I'm not going to write that extensive of a review. The interior is nice enough and the service staff are friendly. The food is incredibly average though. I got the menu that included a starter, naan, a main, and a dessert. I also ordered a mango lassi which was really good, but all the food was so so.
For the starter I got lamb and it was very dry. I wouldn't order it again. The garlic naan was good but not great, I wouldn't mind eating it again but I likely wouldn't go out of my way to order it. For the main I got chicken tikka masala and it was really disappointing. It was just okay, definitely nothing to write home about and I wouldn't order it again. Worst of all, there was very little curry with it so I had a hard time fishing what little there was out of the tiny dish to mix with my rice. The one thing I will give them, is that there was a generous amount of chicken, if only it was good. Lastly for dessert I got the Gulab Jamum and it was not that good. I personally didn't find it that tasty and didn't even end up finishing it, only eating one of the balls.
Overall, I would say this is a very average restaurant and I wouldn't come back myself. If a friend invited me to Old Shalimar I would likely attempt to convince them to go somewhere else but if they were unwilling to change I would begrudgingly accompany them here. So it's not terrible, but it's not good. It sits right in that very average zone. read more
