So I do my research and am VERY selective in who I hire when our house needs work. My wife and I hired Andy Fernandes and Adval and they proved to be the real deal. Andy was *always* prompt - every time he or anyone from his company was scheduled to arrive they arrived early. Andy and his crew were communicative, clearly very knowledgeable, and straightforward, which is to say that they told me *and showed me* what was really happening and not what they wanted to promise or what they thought we wanted to hear. And they followed through exactly as they said they would. The quality of their work was outstanding. We had a few kitchen cabinets that had gotten damaged by the 2014 Napa quake and were looking like they were going to fall off the wall. Andy sent over a master carpenter (he spent years building stuff for moneyed people on Martha's Vineyard, who can be quite demanding) who didn't "upsell" us by telling us one of the cabinets needed to be rebuilt (the build cabinet in their own shop), he showed us in detail exactly what the problem was and convinced skeptical me that a new cabinet built from real plywood instead of the particle board of the cabinets the flipper who sold us the house had installed was the way to go. They reused the facing from the old cabinets, so the match was immaculate. Price-wise, yeah, they weren't the cheapest I could have found, but they were most definitely not close to the high end, they were right in the ballpark, and I figure if I demand quality I have to be wiling to pay for it. And we most decidedly got what we paid for. I repeat again that I am VERY picky about contractors, but I unhesitatingly give Adval Construction my highest recommendation. Our job was pretty small, but I would hire them for a big job in a heartbeat. This is the way construction contracting is supposed to work.

I would dare say he is in the top 2% of his craft. My floors look impeccable. Not only is he good with wood floors but he is also good with Coretec (luxury vinyl). Steve was true to his word and came on time every single time. He was able to finish my first floor house in 3 days. Steve and his wonderful assistant worked non-stop. These are the most hard-working people I've ever met and I have met thousands of people during my career. If you want ethical professionalism, a perfectionist, and an expert in flooring then you should give Steve a call. Steve does not do any advertising because otherwise he would be booked for up to a year in advance. Definitely hire him for your next flooring job. One tip is to know exactly what you want because you will have to get all the materials. I chose Stuga (online floor store) because they curate modern quality Swedish flooring that is non-toxic. I chose oak with a light finish. I also liked Coretec tiles for the bathroom because it's waterproof and non-toxic. Steve gave me advice throughout the process of ordering the flooring materials which was helpful. His communication was impeccable. Steve also left everything clean and was very tidy the entire time. We were scheduled for Wednesday morning. Deb called me Wednesday morning and let me know she was having car troubles and couldn't come. We rescheduled for Friday morning at 10:00. Deb called me Thursday evening to let me know her washer repairman didn't come that day and she would have to now cancel my Friday morning appointment to wait for her washer repairman in addition to her husband having a doctor appointment. It's clear this company either a) doesn't have the time for new clients b) doesn't understand customer service or c) truly doesn't want new business. Unfortunate!

Deb is working on getting glass quotes for me. They do excellent work. I highly recommend them for this type of a project. I posted a before and after picture. The white on the cupboards was my attempt to paint them - epic fail. A company will be painting these before the glass is installed.
