Another Yelpy diamond I came across!! After reading the reviews I had to give this place a shot and I'm certainly glad I did! My husband and I shared a bowl of chili. It had pieces of sirloin, not ground meat so that was pretty awesome and a welcomed surprise! The only thing that would have made it better would have been a small dollop of sour cream and maybe some cheese. I liked that it had a mild kick to it, but definitely not over-aggressive. My husband had the kitchen sink, and it was absolutely phenomenal. I hate ham, but he gave me a taste and I was in love! I ordered the sirloin and shrimp (dinner special of the night) and the shrimp were good, the original steak that I ordered as medium was more a well done, it was barely pink and really dry, they happily prepared me a new one which was perfectly cooked, albeit strongly salted and peppered. It was still very good, though. I really enjoyed the green beans/wax beans with carrots as they were amazingly fresh with the right amount of snap not over or undercooked. The reclaimed door table was really neat! My 5 year old's only complaint about dinner was their lack of chocolate milk! Since I was with my little guy I decided not to try the beer flight but at $6 for 5 beers and a decent sized sampling it is something I'm definitely interested in trying in the future. (I saw it on the next table over, drool!). The only downside was the areas of dead space leaving not a whole lot of area for seating. Also, while architecturally interesting and beautiful, the uneven floors were unnerving for this clumsy girl. Despite those things, I'm excited to come back next time I'm going through Plainwell! 4 yums up! read more

Placed a to go order. My party melt was barely toasted, as was the BLT. No pickles with sandwiches. Condiments were small packets, even though I ordered what I wanted on each sandwich. Not the usual high quality of preparation I have come to expect from Old Mill. In house service has always been good. Maybe not so much take out. read more

Just what would you would expect . . . No . . . Better! The menu is familiar with some interesting twists to familiar favorites. Food is straight forward but prepared very well and with care. Atmosphere is causal, fun and interesting loading bay of an old grain elevator/mill. Lots of Michigan beers on tap or bottled, including some of their own. Stopped for a bite to eat during the week of Plainwell Days Festival food was very good. We ordered fried green beans, black and blue burger, and diablo cheesesteak. Everything was delicious and server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely mark this on our books when we come back to town! read more

The worst fries I've had since high school cafeteria food. Asked if the patty melt was grilled - got a yes, but it wasn't. It was on toast. A-1 sauce not a welcome addition. Companions liked their broiled tilapia, rice and green beans but I'll Not be coming back. read more

I have absolutely no negative thoughts, but I honestly think that the food could be a good amount faster. Because usually when I go there I am with other people. And it's the other people that complain about how long it takes to get their food. So basically I am speaking for the other people and it is not just one person either. Again I personally don't have a problem. I will have to be honest and say that, I honestly get a little irritated at people complaining, about anything that I have no control over. I was SO IMPRESSED with this place!! Was intrigued by the haunting, and fell in love as soon as I walked in the door. Beautiful place, friendly staff made me feel super welcome. Tried a couple beers while waiting for a table, loved them so much I had to get a growler. Sat down and ordered food, (the cuban and sweet potato fries) and it was just fantastic. Will definitely be coming back, and reccomending to everyone. read more

This place is great. You won't see people dressed to the 9's, but it's definitely a notch up the ladder from some of the other local establishments. The food is delicious, the beers are West Michigan's best, and the servers are knowledgeable about both. The building and decor are great - a bit of a rustic lodge feel. As for the claustrophobic comment that someone else made, I don't know about that at all. It has plenty of great lighting and it's very open. I don't think it's meant to be a dining hall. read more

One of the best places to dine in Plainwell. I am a large fan of the interior decor, but the actual restaurant/bar area is surprisingly small, especially for their massive gravel parkinglot. It's a little dark at times and hard to get in, as it gets busy as the only real restaurant that isn't some chain in Plainwell. The food is moderately and reasonably priced. The food though.. meh.. Lots of things you can tell are just frozen things made on the spot. Their burgers are alright, the clams were super breaded, chewy, and oddly large, and their diablo cheese-steak was mindblowingly bland. If anything, they need to work on their menu a little. I hear they have craft brew now, which I have not tried but am curious to try. Overall, not a bad dining experience, I just wish their food was a little more flavorful. read more

Great place to get a good bite to eat and they brew some great beers. The waitstaff is great and the owner one of best guys around he greets and chats with everyone. I recommend people to give the place a try and u leave with a full stomach with a heavy wallet still. Friday night fish special and sat a beef special. We go there almost every week, and sometimes twice in a week. Great food and service. And, yes most excellent beer! Their brews will vary occasionally, somewhat seasonally, though they do have some that are always on tap. My favorite standby beer is the Crazy Beaver. Enjoy! read more

We have especially tried to support local business during the past year, and have gotten take-out from Old Mill many times. Recently, though, I have been disappointed. My diablo cheesesteak had a pathetic amount of meat on it...and they forgot the cheese! They'll have to do better to keep our business. read more

Haven't got our food yet, but will say service leaves a lot to be desired. Waitress has walked by 8 times and there have been empty beer glasses, hasn't asked of we'd like a refill. Living in Allegan Old Mill is the best choice in a brewery without driving to Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids. If you eat at Old Mill id suggest starting with the artichoke dip as an app and then a burger for main course- other options arent so great.. The beer is pretty good ive enjoyed the IPAs but the crazy beaver cream ale is my favorite.. Overall a solid brewery that you should give a try... read more

First stop on a brewery tour. Could not have done better. The service was outstanding! They know their beer and take the time to pair you with the one(s) you like. I liked their porter. The food is good. It is way better than bar food, and it is not pretentious cutting edge or fancy-restaurant food. Had a great salad and the Cuban sandwich. The atmosphere is cosy, rustic, relaxing. If I lived in the area, I would come back often. Great for a regular hangout. The highlight of the visit was the owner-led impromptu tour and insightful suggestions for our continuing brewery explorations. read more

This a great family friendly, no-frills brew pub. There's plenty of parking outside, it's a quick walk to the center of Plainwell, and the prices here are really good. I had the Fear Biter Black IPA and the blackened grilled chicken. They did a pretty good job with the IPA an the chicken was succulent. Overall a great, cheap dinner. read more

First visit here. Perfect day for sitting outside. The Crazy ale was wonderful. For our meal we enjoyed a shrimp basket with cole slaw and sweet potatoes fries. Hubby ordered clam basket. It was very tasty. The owner Scott went table to table saying and making sure everyone was enjoying their meal. We did! He also shared with us that on Wednesday's the antique cars that come from the Gilmore CarMuseum drive down that very street. He was right. Great views, great service and great time. We've eaten here over the years and ordered takeout during the pandemic to support local restaurants . Tonight, I made plans to meet my mom and son there for dinner. The hostess would not let me sit down and order a beer! She said she couldn't seat me until my whole party arrived. I said, "I can't sit at a table and drink a beer?" We just tried this for the first time last weekend and absolutely loved it! It's a really cool atmosphere, our waitress was really nice and attentive. We met the owner who was extremely friendly and down to earth and it was cool to see that he very much enjoys what he's doing and has a passion for people. We were going to have our wedding reception there last fall and went somewhere closer to home, but we looked at the venue space in person while there for dinner and it's absolutely beautiful! read more

Nice work on refurbishing the old 1870 Plainwell flour mill, to a very nice spot to grab a burger and a beer. The have some very good burgers (try the "Feedbag" if you dare) and wraps to go with the great beers. The beer flight is good way to try to sample some of their beers. read more

Very good food. I had the feed bag which is a burger with ham and bacon. The burger was tasty and the ham was flavorful and tender. Good place to stop for a brew and a burger. If you are in the area I suggest stooping in. read more

I recently attended a wedding here. The upper banquet hall is great -- lots of charm that was easily complemented by the wedding decor. There were about 125 people in attendance, and we comfortably fit the room. The food was amazing. It was set up buffet-style. Admittedly, I am often skeptical of wedding buffets because sometimes mass-prepared food just tastes bland or gets mushy sitting in pans. But this was hands-down the best wedding buffet I've ever seen. The Chicken Florentine was fantastic -- perfectly moist and seasoned. The Slow Roasted Beef with Whiskey Peppercorn Sauce was super tender. Seriously, it was all just really good. I would happily return here for a special event. read more

Old Mill has a great atmosphere, great food and drink. (My husband said it's the best brisket he's had since we've move here from Memphis.)Most of all they have exceptional service. Most places come and Check on you but I like that the manager/owner not sure who came to all the tables and thanked everyone for dining with them. It was easy for me to feed my toddler too. Was a wonderful experience . great bartender . We sat at the bar and sampled the beers ( the Flight)while we waited for outdoor seating on front porch. Great server on front porch . We then had another beer, I ate the crab soup DELISH , and later we shared a nachos grande .
