We've driven past this local bread shop for years and decided to stop in to try their bagels. They were a little on the flatter side but were still tasty. The bagel sandwiches were also no frills but classic. We enjoyed our food and will be back here to pick up more bread products again. read more

As per Old Grist Mill standards, the food is delicious. They make a decent 'home style' sandwich on a variety of soft, but firm enough for sandwiches bread, baked daily in house. I prefer the sourdough. The price is so far, unbeatable, for a lunch in town. Most times I am less than $10 for a sandwich, with chips, and a brownie and drink. The mint brownie is legendary, even if only in my own mind. I bring one to fans of brownies elsewhere in the area and they also immediately realize the legendaryness of the brownie as well. It's consistently delicious and everything a brownie should be. Today I tried the raisin nut roll, and it's really good. Food is okay. Says they're open till 7 but I've come at 6 more than a few times and chairs are on top of tables. Food is put away. Floors are being swept, glass counters are being sprayed and wiped down like they are ready to close any min. I get wanting to go home ASAP after closing but closing down an hour ahead of actual closing time is a bit soon. The employees act really put out if I order something that they have to prepare. The have a number of different lunch specials of the deli-order type where you fill out your little paper specifying what soup, sandwich, etc. you would like while waiting in line and then hand it off to the cashier. Quite popular locally and the place is usually always almost full during the lunch rush between noon and 2pm. They have delicious soups (Clam Chowder and tomato basil with rice being my favorites) They also have a mean chicken noodle and other equally tasty offerings. They make fantastic sandwiches with freshly sliced deli meat and cheeses and the freshest bread, (this is after a bakery after all... first and foremost.) I have a love hate relationship with this place. I have ordered the raspberry rolls for different occasions many times. We had for it for family parties, my sisters wedding, and church activities. The last time I ordered about 90 mini raspberry rolls, she took down my information and confirmed my order. I came to pick up my order when the lady behind the counter was clearly confused. She goes to the back for 5 minutes and the manager comes to the front to tell me my order was never taken down. I told her the lady confirmed with me the time to pick them up and showed her my phone of when I called. She called the main store and asked how long it would take for them to make the rolls. She asked if I could come back in another 4 hours to pick them up, I was unable to because is was going down to Salt Lake. Luckily I was able to call some people and have them pick it up. I was a little disappointed with the situation and hoped they would have done more to help my situation out. read more

On the outside this place looks kind of like a dingy stop in a older strip mall type building. On the inside it's very cute and welcoming. With the name I expected this place to be along the lines of Great Harvest Bread Co. However, this place sold bread, bagels, muffins, brownies, sandwiches, soup, ice cream, etc.. I wish I had gone in there to try it for a proper meal. There were a lot of options and it was very reasonably priced. However, I had gone in looking for some sort of baked good. Even though I got there later in the day there was still a decent assortment of items to choose from. I ended up getting three different dessert items to take home. I got a mint brownie, fudge brownie, and a pumpkin spice bar. The portions of these items were generous-especially for the fact that they were 94 cents each. The total of all three of my items was $3.01. The pumpkin spice bar was probably my favorite. It was light, moist, spiced but not over bearing, the pumpkin was pleasant and did not taste like it was straight out of a can. The brownies were moist, just the right amount of denseness and had a good chocolate flavor to them. Where everything was as good as it was I wish there was a larger dessert selection to get here. Fancy slices of cakes, cannoli, puddings, etc would all make this place a must go to in my book! read more

This is one of those places where the good is really good and the bad is really bad. It is difficult to rate this any higher than a 3 for that reason. My kids and I wanted some soup because it was rainy outside. My daughter and I ordered the veggie beef and my other daughter ordered the creamy potato. We didn't like the soup, it needed flavor, then I heard one of the employees telling a customer they do not make the soup they buy it frozen. That explains the lack of flavor. I thought a place like this would have had homemade soups. I ordered a half turkey sandwich and that was so good. The bread was so soft and the veggies were fresh. I'll definitely get a full sandwich next time. The kids ate all their sandwiches too but didn't finish their soups. We got the cinnamon burst bread to go to and that is always good. My other negative was the seating area was dirty with lots of crumbs on the table and food on the ground. The benches had lots of dust and cobwebs on them too. The seating area needs a deep cleaning. Go for the sandwiches and bakery items but skip the soups. read more

The bread was super dry. I do not think I will be going back again. They were every busy and all I had only soup and it took them 30 minutes to get it to me. First off.... usually love Old Grist and frequent often. This visit was just okay. the soups are always on point and the service is always fantastic. This visit met these standards. Old Grist has great breads and everything is always so fresh. During this lunch visit, I went with the clam chowder soup and Tuna Fish Sandwich. The soup was great and served piping hot. Such a good flavor and excellent batch of soup. Where the three stars derives from is the sandwich. I was underwhelmed by this sandwich. One, there was what would equate to a tablespoon of tuna fish spread across the bread. (It was not enough to barely cover 2/3rds of the bread and about as thin as a penny. Second, I asked for lettuce and tomato. The tomato was all seed and the lettuce was wilted. The prices are always favorable and the food is usually great. On this visit to their Ogden, I left disappointed and wondering what the heck went wrong. This won't prevent me from visiting again in the future, however, I will let them know immediately, if the sandwich or soup does not meet standards. OG Mill is far better than this visit and I feel horrible for having to leave a low score. At the same time.... honesty is my approach to reviews. Step it up OG Ogden. Wanted bagels and they were not very good. Small and picked over-and no substantial wheat. Got three bagels, told the gal to cut them in half, toast and butter. It takes forever, then the gal wraps them and says THE BUTTER IS OVER THERE, so she didn't even butter them. I look over, it is a metal tub with butter and a plastic knife. Covid 19 outbreak, these guys are leaving butter out and have everyone sharing ONE knife. The people did not look like they could have tied their shoes without a road map. WON'T GO BACK! read more

I used to eat at this place 4 times a week.. but then they changed the frosting recipe for their sugar cookies and now I rarely eat there. Now, having said that, Old Grist is a pretty good deal. Their #1 combo includes Full sandwich (Their sandwiches are freaking awesome), Drink, Chips, and a Cookie all for like $5. Great Pricing! They would have gotten 5 stars from me but I'm tellin' ya.. the new Sugar Cookie frosting is absolutely terrible. Yuck! I really hope whoever made the decision to change the frosting got fired. This place is a really good choice on a cold, snowy, smoggy utah day. It may be crowded with everyone and their grandparents.. literally.. but they never run out of soup. I stopped in here after trying some bread of theirs from a friend. I was pleased with their selection as they have good variety when it comes to their breads. They have "simpler" loaves of sourdough and types you might tend to make sandwiches out of, but they also have some more "exotic" loaves. The food here is great! My favorite is the broccoli soup, but it is a toss up on the breads which is the best. Cheesy Potato and Sourdough both have a 5 star rating in deliciousness from me! The prices can't be beat for the quality. The teenagers aren't consistent on portions, but they are polite and willing to give you a little extra if you ask. The desserts are good, too. I have a neighbor that I help with his errands because he can't drive with all the construction. He buys bread to thank people for helping him and for those who he thinks need a treat. He always uses a coupon for buy 2 get one free. This month when the coupons came out they had an expiration date of June 1 which was obviously a mistake on someone's part because we didn't even receive them until June 5. He ordered his bread for friends and when he gave them the coupon they said is was expired. We explained that it must have been a mistake but the very onery manager (she said she was but I have my doubts) wouldn't honor it. She was quite rude. He is a very good customer and I hope he won't buy bread there any more. This happened at 2:00 June 15 and I wish I had gotten her name. I will not go there any more. I get it, this is sort of a neighborhood place...jammed to the gills because it's close and convenient and local and inexpensive to start and servicemen and LE get a discount to boot, so definitely popular. The receipts don't even allow tips, so at those prices, you have to simply move people through the lines and everything is based on mass quantity. At that level, you're talking volume, even though they have a ton of delectables, being a bakery and all. Soda selection is way on point as well. I get all that, but that's almost never what I'm looking for. I don't like to have to fill out my own form with options I have no idea what they are because I'm not a local and don't eat there every day. The half pads are fine, but with that kind of volume, they could easily double the space and illuminate the choices and allow further customization, but maybe they don't care if I ever return. If they don't, I don't much either, believe it. The food wasn't that good... Speaking of which, I would have like the sandwich much better if the bread wasn't as cold as the veggies that were layered and layered on it. The sprouts were in the middle, which was where the bulge wound up being. They also use sliced sandwich bread and this reminded me of nothing so much as Town & Country in Salt Lake, minus a whole lot of the meat that T & C likes to use. In this regard, they were actually kind of skimpy, but looking around, other people did better with the lighter meats like turkey and ham, so maybe that's the thing...or maybe it's another local thing that they load up certain people's sandwiches with meat...I'm ok with the latter, but not the former here...chips were plain Lay's in a tiny, tiny sack with seriously about 8 chips in it. I asked for Sun Chips on the order, but I guess I picked a selection that overrode the other one, kinda like building a car on one of the automaker's websites. The cookie of the day was kind of a mess, reminiscent of one of those goopy concoctions that Maverik rolls out every once in a while. So, while it was cheap, I wouldn't necessarily call it good...I wouldn't call it bad, either, but more right in the middle. If you can get here at a time other than lunch, you'll probably do better, but if you hit the cattle call (unless that's your thing), it could be less than enjoyable. I don't know if I'll be back or not (the name has an unpleasant connotation to it, for me), but I wouldn't necessarily turn away if I was in the area. They are so mouth watering delicious and I spend most of my free time buying food there. They are pretty inexpensive and have a great selection of food to choose from. The employees are absolutely clueless and very rude! I brought my 92 year old mom in for lunch and the behavior of the teeny bopper employees was staggeringly awful. The order taker yelled at me and they put my order in to go when I clearly said eat in. I went back up to order a cinnamon raisin bagel and the clueless boy brought just any bagel and said to me "I'm not sure if this is what you want but is it ok? I was floored. I asked for the tables to be wiped down when an employee handed me a rag and said "you do it, I'm too busy" I asked to speak to the manager or owner. They got busy and the girl behind the counter gave 1 of the rolls to another customer. We waited 15 mins. She had plenty of time to box up our rolls and the gave it away. Not pleased at all.
