This was our first visit here for open swim and it was our last. The place was dirty, the pool was way overcrowded, and the lifeguards were less then interested with watching over the children at play in the pool. We spent an our there and a good amount of that time was myself getting two toddlers changed on the way in and o. The way out. I snapped a couple photos and showed management on the way out. The manager heard me out and was responsive when she decided to meet me out in the parking lot requesting a copy of the pictures I told her that I took, but I was less then pleased with the result. We were clearly miserable and I do believe she could have done more to rectify our experience. $25 was a rip off. Ive never seen a ymca in such disarray and we are frequent visitors at other locataions. The pool and clutter around it was hazardess. Would not recommend this YMCA for a safe swim for children and families. Lifeguards should not be on their phones or daydreaming at the ceiling. The young lifeguard with the auburn/red ponytail should be spoken to and re trained. read more

You're welcome here as long as you're NOT a lap swimmer! I've been bullied twice out of the pool by the aqua zumba classes and it looks like this Y is punishing the victims by establishing policies that favor the classes. I guess you do get more if you pay more. Great Y ethics in play! read more

Not bad. Lots of daytime classes, especially for older folks. Evenings are crammed with teens.

I paid to have a birthday party there for my daughter, the staff were terrible to my family. Two female staff members 1 who claimed to be the manager were openly rude hostile and openly racist toward myself and 4 of my family members. The party host was very sweet and helpful. The host also warned me that the two women at the desk planned to call the cops on me for letting them know I would be reporting their behavior to the higher up management. The two women then came down to the pool and tried to intimidate me and my family by standing around us staring at us making everyone uncomfortable. I didn't make a scene or go back and forth. The party deck was dirty my guests cleaned it up they denied us time to set up for the party that was also apart of my contract. I pay for a membership every month for my family we expected to be treated the same way as everyone else not worth the money paid they put a damper on the party such a disappointment I would not recommend this place at all. Awful open gym/basketball schedule! I joined this Y forgetting on my part to ask about the availability of the gym for paying members. My daughter, son and I have hardly get to play basketball due to all these YMCA renting time slots to basketball leagues! Can't even utilize our fav part of this Y because it puts leagues over actually people looking to use the courts to play basketball. I'm beyond disappointing and hope I can find a second option to cancel our membership. read more

When I got a tour here over a year ago, I was impressed with gym & pool area. Today was 1st time using the indoor pool. Water was cloudy with stuff on the surface & weird dirt on the bottom of the pool. One lifeguard was testing water when I arrived. I asked lifeguard about cloudiness. He said he was new but laughed & said it's looked that way since he started. How is it possible to have normal readings? The walk space around the pool & stairs were gross. Moldy looking steps into the pool with broken edges. Ceiling fabric falling down & stained with rust. The locker room I used was disgusting with dark stain on the walls that came up from floor level. Not sure if it was embedded dirt or (hopefully not) mold. Doesn't someone inspect these places? Looks like no one cares. It's very sad. I'm leaving with a feeling of "Ew"! read more

Nice place some of the staff is cool. But the building needs an update. Outside dressing rooms feel like the floor is gonna fall. Bathroom look nasty like nobody cleans them. Dirty pool outside still haven't tried the indoor pool. Splash pad is broken so only some of the sprayers spray. read more

The summer camp program for kids is a disaster. We ended up just not bringing our grandson for the second half of the summer and making other arrangements. We lost a good bit of money in the process, but was preferable to picking him up dirty, hungry, thirsty, and morose every day. We would check him in and he would cling to the front gate while we left. When we drove by a little later, he was still clinging to the post. Arts and crafts program seemed to consist of coloring pages torn from an old coloring book with a single crayon. We're low on supplies, the counselor told us. Nature study was digging in the dirt with a stick. Very limited pool time. Bathroom facilities were either dirty portable Johns or a filthy bathroom shack with feces on the wall. Staff was fairly friendly in the main, but obviously not well paid or trained. We never felt they were keeping a close enough eye on things. When we tried to reach out with a question, our emails were ignored. The drop off/pick up system was very confusing, and seemed to differ from day to day. When our grandson didn't show up for several weeks in a row, absolutely nobody followed up to see if there might be a problem. There were no field trips. No archery. No organized teams. Just a little shooting hoops at the crowded basketball net. All this for about $400 per week. An extremely disappointing experience. Needless to say, we won't be back next summer. read more

Had to pull my child out, when I'd pick him up he was angry, crying, hungry and thirsty. He was getting hit, bitten and scratched by other children and started to exhibit behaviors consistent with an abused child (stomachaches, nightmares, acting out with toys or siblings). Parents are not allowed in the daycare and I suspect it's due to the conditions. Absolutely devastated that our child went through this terrible experience. read more

Love. We're on our 4th year at the Y for daycare and preschool and we couldn't be more pleased with the care, instruction and incredible price. Teachers know and care for the kids and directors are attentive to parents' needs. The Y is compassionate and caring of kids of all abilities and backgrounds and we are going to miss them a ton when my youngest 'graduates'. The gym is just as awesome with all the amenities a person could need. Totally worth it. Childcare at the gym has been a great fit for us too with climb on toys and staff who know how to 'redirect' your little one when you sneak out! read more

Overall pretty go for the price. Spacious, good amount of equipment, track, basketball, pool, different rooms for different classes. I like that there are lockers throughout the gym, that way you don't have to go all the way to the locker room. It could overall feel a bit cleaner. Yesterday there were found feces in the pool in open swim area. Of course, all swimmers were told to leave the water immediately. Maybe lifeguards should walk around pool every 10-15 min to spot it quickly. Lately new lifeguards stop to move lane separators, so even with many people in lap lines, and 4 lanes in schedule, we have only three. Life guards pretend being mummies or in nirvana state or busy talking. Another bad thing is, no rules at all conveyed to swimmers. Nobody covers long hair, as a result, clamps of hairs are floating between swimmers fingers. There is a list of rules on the wall in the middle of pool. It must be on the front door, and every member must sign it upon getting membership. Very young kids are swimming across lanes, sometimes under other swimmers. Nobody ever told them, that they have vast area to play around, but lap lanes are not for them. Even some adults occupy lap lanes to chat or hang on separators. All in all, considering luck of active supervision, feces are not the worst thing that may happen here. By the way, I was told, that the pool has cameras. If it is true, they can find out, who polluted water yesterday, and at least bar that fecer from the facility. read more

Although modernized a bit with a lot of newer running and elliptical machines, they still have the same 2 or 3 bench presses and same weight stacks. It desperately needs more bench presses and modern weight machines if you like lifting weights. The Y used to have a killer boot camp too which is long gone. And now one of their best trainers Herb is mysteriously gone. Not sure what is going. read more

The renovations are all done for the most part. The pool was closed for cleaning during the summer but still looks the same. The walls and ceilings are still covered in mold. The women's locker rooms, bathrooms and sauna are now wheelchair accessible. The room is much brighter and cleaner than it used to be. Only complaint I hear over and over again are that there are not enough benches to sit on in the dressing room. I agree. The new studio X room is fantastic! I really enjoy taking classes in that room. It's surrounded by windows and has cushioned floors with lots of wall to wall mirrors. read more

I give 2 stars only for the simple fact that my children were kept safe and they enjoyed going to this camp. I personally think the YMCA is over priced regarding camp for children! I paid $285 per week per child (2) which didn't include lunch or any field trips at all!!! Yes they did a lot on site but for this amount of money I think way more should be done for these children!! read more

Avoid this place, at least we will. Very poor customer service. We knew we were not going to be visiting the gym for a while, so we asked to get our membership canceled, but their staff advised us it would be best to place a hold on our membership instead, they claim it would be much easier to rejoin later, so we did. Six months later we started getting charged for their membership without any warning or notification. As soon as we noticed a pending credit card charge from the credit card, we contacted their staff by phone and email, and asked for the charge to be canceled, but they pretty much said, sorry tough luck - no apologies, no refund, no voucher credit :( Later I noticed we also had been charged the previous month. The facilities are also very old, there are much better options just a few minutes away. read more

The YMCA Summer camp is fantastic and my 8-year old Son is so sad it is coming to an end. The staff was excellent, especially the crew at check-in. My Son will definitely be coming back next year. However, I will only give the Y 3 stars because the weight training area is AWFUL. I can't get a good workout. It's old, stuffy, and not enough space in the free weight area. I can't get in a good workout here. Hopefully their upgrade will be finished soon, but I am going to cancel my membership until is happens. read more

Nice place to work out. The new gym is really nice. Lots of amenities. Great outdoor pool to use for summer months. The price is a lot cheaper than owning and maintaining a pool. The free classes I take both HIT and Tia Chi both exhaust and relax me and round out the weight and cardio work outs. Parking lot is roomy now even on the busiest days. The slew of new equipment allows you to work out on the machine you want anytime. Lots a great new improvements. It has been two years but they have kept all amenities open and at the same time doubled the place in size. read more

I've been going to this YMCA since I moved back to Massachusetts a few months ago. I've been meaning to try their classes, but I just haven't gotten around to it. They have a nice, big selection of cardiovascular machines. There's a yoga room, a spin and a huge auditorium (Zumba classes). There's an olympic sized swimming pool. You can swim lamps or take a water aerobics class. There's no rhyme or reason to the numbering on the nautilus machines. They're definitely not in order, which makes it a little confusing if you use the ActivTrax system (which is great). There's a small free weight area. My biggest issue with the Stoughton Y is there doesn't seem to be a good area where you can stretch, work on your abs or do lunges/squats. There are showers in the locker room and there are two curtained changing rooms in every aisle. They have a separate changing room for small children, but a lot of parents still bring their kids into the adult locker room, which is annoying. The trainers/staff are always circling the floor. They offer personal training packages, but I haven't utilized that service. It's nice and cold in the YMCA It's miserable when gyms are too hot. read more

Very mediocre experience at best. It's the only game in town with the amenities and for $83/month family membership it's an acceptable value but there is immense room for improvement. Staff runs hot and cold from sometimes caring and attentive to completely gruff and callous. Locker rooms are shabby and in need of overhaul. Pool has been closed at times more often than open. Billing system has a way of continuing to pick your pocket long after cancelling and often requires escalation to highest echelon of the organization to reverse charges to former members' credit cards. Basketball court is inadequate with groups of thugs often taking over for full court games, intimidating other players to the sidelines and staff doesn't care to listen. Machines in weight training area are often broken with "out of order" signs. Place always seems to be under some form of construction but never seems to improve. read more

My family has been members of Stoughton's Striar YMCA (previously JCC) for nearly 20 years now. The latest renovations are terrific. We've always had very good experiences at this facility. I even used my family membership at the YMCA in Chinatown when I work in Boston. So its great to have this membership. I've had memberships at Elite Fitness and have visited 24/7 Family, Terban, and others but I always kept my YMCA family membership. read more

I've been going to this YMCA when it was originally a JCC back in 2007. Took a few years off, came back in late 2011. Other than new equipments and a couple new constructed exercise rooms, not much has changed. I normally go swimming, because I get more of a workout than just running on treadmill. It gets pretty hectic at times especially when there are a lot of kids. Other YMCAs I've been to have a separate pools for family and kids and another pool for lap swimmer. This YMCA place has to consolidate the swimming lanes in order to have one big lane for family and kids, leaving us lap swimmers limited to three or two lanes and we always have to share. I'm curious why they don't spend the money constructing a second pool just for the family and kids. They have a whole unused field space in the back which can be use to construct an extension to the indoor swimming section. The locker rooms are old from the 1970s; rusted, grotesque, decayed and needs to be replaced. The showers are always having problems as well, they breakdown, not work and is in repair constantly. As a parent this Gym has it all! There are classes for my 10 year old including swimming, gym training, etc. If you have younger children, there is child watch for moms and dads to go work out. They tell you the limit to watch them is 2 hours, however they have watched my baby longer. The child watch are very nice people and make me feel 100 percent secure leaving my little tot while I'm working out. There is also a block room for young kids to play around in. I would have given this place 5 stars however there is just a few things that make this gym inconvenient. It seems this ymca is always holding functions with old people or traveling groups or childrens activities causing the parking lot to become packed and either not finding parking, or parking very far. The other downfall is that you wont find as much machines for cardio and and weight training as other chain gyms have. Overall this is a great family gym and it gets the job done. The staff is very friendly and there is a very family oriented culture at this gym. read more
