Amazing front desk staff. Best service I've ever received at a YMCA. Keep up the great work!

Long-time member, deeply disappointed by how staff treated my senior parents…read more I've been a Planet Fitness member for 10 years and a member at this location for over 5. In that time, I've referred 3 family members and 2 friends who have joined. Last weekend, my parents, who have a PF Black Card membership, had an experience with new staff that embarrassed them and made them feel unsafe returning to this gym. After their workout, my parents went to use the hydromassage beds. A new front desk employee told them to scan their card again, which had never been required of them before in the past year. While they were in the middle of complying by getting the card again, they expressed their surprise and commented on how it usually works, but the employee didn't like my dad's volume when talking and escalated instead of being reassuring, and told my dad he had to leave. My mom asked to speak with a manager first and began explaining the situation to an assistant manager, when the new employee cut her off and again told my dad to leave. No staff said to wait until they heard all sides of the story or stepped in to de-escalate, so my dad left. My parents don't speak great English, and my dad's hearing isn't great (he worked in construction most of his life), so he speaks louder than most people, but he wasn't being disrespectful or aggressive. This was a simple front-desk miscommunication that an employee turned into a confrontation. In any client-facing role, the bare minimum is patience and the ability to de-escalate a misunderstanding, especially with people of different backgrounds. The staff failed to do that here. My parents no longer feel safe coming back to this location while this employee is still working the front desk, so I won't recommend this gym to anyone going forward. I urge management to review this incident and retrain staff on how to handle these situations with customers with more grace and decency. Your customers are not your enemy.
