Chocolate Lasagna

This place is in my top 5 all time favorite bbq spots. I've been twice so far and blown away each time. The meats are flawless, juicy chicken, flavorful brisket and the jalapeño cheddar link was insanely good with their house mustard sauce. This was my second time getting a loaded baked potato but I added brisket and made it even better of an experience. Potato was served at the perfect temp not piping hot but also not cold, just right both times to enjoy. Collards and beans were both great this time, corn bread was moist and sweet. Their desserts are all made in house and just as satisfying as the meals. Got the chocolate lasagna and every bite was like a fluffy slice of heaven. Restaurant is always clean and you'll usually always see a staff member cleaning up or restocking. Clean restrooms place is a 10/10 I will be back with friends for life.

We stopped here on our way back from OBX to CLT, and it was a great decision! Everything was so good. The restaurant is clean and service was top notch. No notes. Check their IG for fresh desserts of the day and specials.

Great service!! Worth the 1hr ride! Yes we have bbq places in the 757 but this place is definitely better than most of them!!! No lie. Only proble. Is and I understand based on the location they close early on Saturdays. We love the beef rib, brisket, sausage, the mac n cheese and absolutely loved the cornbread!! I forgot to mention the pulled chicken bbq is the absolute best

The meats were delicious. Tender and moist and thankful the meat wasn't dry. The Cheerwine was pretty good. It has some sweetness but the house BBQ sauce was my favorite. I've never tasted BBQ Sauce like that. It paired perfect with the meats. The sides were good but the loaded potato salad won. So delicious!! I definitely recommend this restaurant!!

The drive was well worth it from Winston-Salem, NC. We have Lexington style pork BBQ in my area and while it is delicious, it simply does not compare to eastern style whole hog bbq. Immediately, the chopped pork here stood out as superior! I was torn between that and the beef brisket which was as delicious as any brisket I've had in Texas. Everything I had on the sampler was delicious as a matter of fact. But the pork and brisket reigned king. I stopped here while traveling to the outer banks, and I'll definitely come back on my next trip.

So, we're from Eastern NC and kept seeing these pics of Old Colony Smokehouse popping up on social media. It's only about an hour from us in Edenton. Today, we ook a quick little road trip, and oh my gosh, it did not disappoint. We rolled out of there stuffed to the brim and already talking about when we're coming back. We went big and ordered the Double Smokeshouse Sampler and the OCS Classic Combo with chicken and pork BBQ. Honestly, everything was so good it's hard to pick a favorite. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender and juicy, the turkey was cooked just right, and the BBQ chicken was to die for. The pork BBQ? Total classic. But let's talk about the real MVP: the Carolina Twinkie. It's this sausage with pimento cheese and jalapeño wrapped in bacon, and I'm not kidding when I say it's next-level. You bite into it, and it's smoky, a little spicy from the jalapeño, and then the cheese just oozes out. It's kinda weird in the best way possible--like, who even thinks of that? But it works, and now I'm obsessed. If you go, you have to get it. We grabbed a bunch of sides too: green beans, collard greens, mac & cheese, smokehouse beans, and squash casserole. The mac & cheese was creamy perfection--like, the kind you dream about. The squash casserole was a hit. The smokehouse beans had this deep, smoky flavor that paired great with everything, and the greens were solid--cooked just right with a little kick. Then there was dessert. We got the Hershey bar cake, banana pudding, and Atlantic Beach pie. That pie? Unreal. It's got this tangy, citrusy vibe that cuts through all the richness of the meal--super refreshing. The Hershey bar cake was crazy rich and chocolatey, and the banana pudding was straight-up comfort food done perfectly. No complaints here! The vibe at Old Colony is just right. The staff was so friendly--like, genuinely nice people who made us feel welcome from the second we walked in. The place itself has this cozy, laid-back feel that makes you wanna linger a little longer. It's not fancy or anything, just comfy and chill, which is exactly what you want with food this good. After we ate, we took the kids over to the playground by the lighthouse nearby. They ran around like crazy, burning off all that food, and had a total blast. It was such a nice way to end the day.

Great BBQ. The brisket was tender, moist, and the outside bark was delicious. They do whole hog smoking. The pork was just ok. The green beans were flavored perfectly. The Mac and cheese was really good. The tea was sweetened just right. Alabama white sauce was good, but their signature sauce great. Sweet and spicy. The cornbread was moist and sweet, similar to jiffy, but was told it wasn't jiffy. Very clean and seemed relatively new building. Plenty of parking even with a large lunch crowd. Friendly lady that walks around and made sure you had what you needed. Cleaned my plate off the table. Got a chance to talk to the pit master and assume owner as he was outside at the large screened building housing the smokers. Super nice guy. Highly recommend the place if you're anywhere near the area.

BBQ Worth the Detour in North Carolina If you're in North Carolina looking for some good barbecue off the beaten path, this is your go-to place. We tried the sampler platter and the stuffed pepper, and everything was spot-on. The meat had great seasoning and just the right amount of smoke. No sauce was needed, but if you like to experiment, definitely check out the Alabama white sauce or grab a Cheerwine to wash it all down. Do yourself a favor and finish your meal with the banana dessert they sell. I will admit, it is just okay on its own--nothing to write home about--but something about having it after a plate of smoky barbecue makes it the perfect ending.

Charming little country BBQ spot worth the stop. I got the three-meat combo with ribs, beef brisket, and whole hog BBQ, plus sides of cornbread, cucumber salad, and mac & cheese. The ribs were the standout--tender and full of flavor--followed by the brisket. The whole hog BBQ was a hard pass for me: it was a vinegary, shredded mix with crunchy bits that didn't quite work. The cornbread was delicious but know it's more of a moist pudding than traditional bread. The Cheerwine BBQ sauce was also bomb. Don't miss this place!

This has been on the list for a while and the 20 min drive talked me out of it, im a fool. This may be the best brisket Ive ever had. Split the brisket plate w mac n cheese and slaw with my young son and added an extra piece of corn bread and mac and cheese balls. The place opened at 11a and we arrived at 1102a on a Saturday morning and were already 15th in line, the locals know this place is no joke. But fret not -the staff are efficient, courteous and competent and the line moves quick. The attendant in the dining area is also helpful. The place is clean and well kept and the crowd moves in and out quick and seemingly satisfied so there is no shortage of seating inside or out. I tried to eat bbq locally after this and was just annoyed i wasnt back here. I will be soon, and regularly. Absolutely worth it. Maybe i can squeeze in one if those delicious looking desserts next time.

Brisket, collards, Brunswick stew, onions and corn bread

Food was awesome. We went Friday. Burnt ends sold out by noon. So get there early if you want the birnt ends. We got brisket and barbecue. Well done and very flavorful. Service was great once we got in. Parking is tricky, people ordering at the window versus people wanting to go in. Ambiance was what you would expect from NC barbecue. Nothing fancy but it was clean. Interesting barbecue sauce Cheerwine was not too sweet but good. Original was also good. Got the pecan pie cheesecake and it was delicious. If you live in Hampton Roads or Raleigh it is worth the drive.

My family visited this location last summer when we first moved here. The atmosphere was honestly…read morereally home-y. It seemed like all the customers knew one another. They were talking to each other and asking about the families from across the room. There was a buffet and it was delicious. Everyone in line was cutting up with one another. Great experience and good food.

Came to Captain Bob's for a late lunch on a Friday and found the place mostly empty. The only other…read morepatrons who were there were enjoying the buffet but there was steady to-go business. The interior of the restaurant is loaded with ocean and sea items, as you'd expect. The tables and chairs are a mishmash mostly consisting of, what I'd call, banquet chairs. Mine had a pretty big rip in it and a mighty wobble that must have meant to make me feel like I was on a boat. The server took my order. I got a hot dog and fries and asked if they could put their pimento cheese on the hot dog (if you haven't tried it, you should!). The server said she would have to ask and I said that I was happy to pay extra if needed. What came next was so odd. I could hear the entire conversation from the kitchen. Server: This guy wants to know if we can put pimento cheese on a hot dog. Cook: What? That's weird. Server: Yea, but that's what he wants. Cook:.....No. Tell him we don't have any. Server: Ok. So the server came back to my table and said they didn't have any. So I just got ketchup and mustard. The dog was fine. The fries were under-seasoned. Really, after hearing that convo, I was just ready to leave. The sign out front says that "There's only two places to eat..Home and Captain Bob's..." well I can put pimento cheese on my hot dogs at home so I don't need to return to Captain Bob's.
