Visited mid afternoon one other person at the bar. Interior is pleasant and bar restaurant acceptable. Ordered two beers on tap from a local brewery in Elizabeth City, Ghost Harbor Brewing Company. As a beer connoisseur it was very clean and right on par for the style. I could have enjoyed many more. Appetizer was loaded fries with a very good cheese sauce and bacon. The cheese sauce wasn't like 7-11 cheese but a delicious blend. I had the chili cheese burger and the wife a fiesta chicken roll up. The chili had a good strong flavor almost over powering the meat flavor. The chicken roll up an excellent combination of flavors. This is a really nice friendly quiet and inexpensive family restaurant. Prices are reasonable and the food is awesome, especially the seafood bar. The staff is very attentive and friendly as well. Stopped by for some lunch at 252 Grill, Hertford NC. Visiting from out of state. A small spot just outside of town. A nice quiet country setting allowing you to sit outside or dine in; half is a restaurant and the other half a small bar. I had the lunch special today, one grilled shrimp and two fried beer batter cod tacos. Both were very good and tasty and a coffee. My server was Alexis who was very personable and polite. Thank you for the good service. It was great to enjoy a nice quiet lunch on a beautiful day. The menu had a good selection, and the restaurant itself was very clean and inviting. Not sure how they have all these rave reviews. The Reuben was edible because I was starving. Cheese wasn't melted, meat wasn't warm. The cajun fries dont have any cajun flavor. The burger I tried I enjoyed it was cooked just right looking forward to another visit to try another. Only negative I would have little heavy on the deep-fried sweet potato fries and the shrimp Deep-fried Oil either it was not up to temperature or old oil, just wasn't right. The waitress was awesome, sweet tea delish! But...the rest of the fare was not anything more than average. Fish & chips were frozen fish fillets. Hamburger "steak" was a hamburger patty (overcooked) topped with gravy. The mashed potatoes are not homemade. The side salads but the dressing is not made in house. The pork chops were fried almost to the point of tough. Really disappointing, was hoping good ole Hertford would get one decent restaurant to take visitors to. Not a do-over for us. read more

While on vacation, we came upon the 252 Grill. After reading other Yelp reviews, we decided to give it a try.....and we're glad we did. We both got the hamburger steak and homemade coleslaw. Mom and I went in for an early dinner on a Saturday. I ordered the chicken and bacon spinach salad and Mom got the fish n chips basket. A nice restaurant for that business lunch or a dinner out......almost. If this was an established restaurant if would have received no more that 2 stars, but I'll give it a second chance to work our the hiccups. Decor is clean and neat, better atmosphere for a lunch than a nice dinner out in the evening. Tablecloths and dimmer lights would make for a great evening ambiance. While on the topic of decor, let me suggest doing away with live flowers. We had a vase of flowers on the window sill next to our table...flowers and leaves with wilted and browning, not very appetizing. The menu for lunch is fantastic, offers quite an extensive menu. Dinner menu was much smaller at 7 entrèes---3 beef, 1 pork, 1 fish and 1 fowl. In fairness the lunch menu is available for dinner as well (I thing???). The restaurant was busy on this Saturday night at 6:30 pm, with only 2 wait staff it made for less than stellar service. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, but very hurried. She would fly by the table drop things off and asked how we were doing, but was a block away before we could answer. This we are sure will improve. Our wait for our meal was not unreasonable given how busy they were, short staffed and being a new restaurant. All menu items are well described and we thought reasonably priced. My dinner partner had Fish & Chips, the portion was a bit small but not terribly so considering an $8.00 price. Fries and fish were a beautiful golden brown, but very oily, an almost certain result of not hot enough oil. Other than the oil the fish was flaky and tasted just fine. Now to my meal. Let me first explain, I love my red sauce BBQ and was so excited to see Boneless Pork Ribs on the menu. Described as: "Applewood smoked country cut ribs slow cooked and mopped with our house made sweet & spicy BBQ sauce". It featured 3 off the bone pieces of rib meat, less generous that expected, but not bad at $11. The problem is that the meat looked like it had sat under a heat lamp, having a dried crusty appearance. As to the mopped on sauce, the mop must have only one strand, barely enough to taste (which by the way was deliciious....I want more of that sauce). The dish came with two sides, I selected onion rings and macaroni & cheese. The onion rings looked beautiful, but suffered from the same not hot enough oil as my partners fish. The rings quite literally drip when picked up. The Mac & Cheese was the worst thing of the night, dried out and just barely lukewarm. In spite of a less that stellar performance, I have every expectation that once the "new" is worked out this could be THE place to eat in Hertford, we certainly need it. I give it 3 based on potential and hope. BYI beer and wine coming. read more

Loved the unique choices for burgers and sandwiches..not just your ordinary run of the mill. Thought pricing was reasonable and meal was well worth every penny!--you get what you pay for! This is a great find in a small town. The food was good...a real,homemade hamburger and a special Korean barbecue pork tacos. The staff was awesome...changing the channel on the bar TV so we could watch the World Cup while we ate. They have a private party room, nice restrooms and a cute shop. There is no mistaking the taste of a fresh hand formed hamburger patty, top this with a tomato that tastes like its fresh from my garden and you can't beat it.
