The space itself is cute and homey, with very nice women at the counter to take your order for takeout or answer any questions. I asked the price of soda cans but when I decided I didn't want one, the woman at the counter offered to refill my water bottle for me! Nobody ever OFFERS that, so I really appreciated it. The slice was massive which I didn't realize so I also got fries and garlic bread, neither of which I could eat during lunch time but I look forward to them as leftovers later. I like supporting local, family-owned businesses. So I continue to visit Old City Pizza. The menu is extensive. I tend to go with the Greek dishes since that seems to be their specialty. It's also a convenient stop if you need a big slice at a low price. I like that I can get avgolemono soup in my neighborhood. I've lived in Old City since 2009 and I just got around to visiting Old City Pizza at the end of 2022. I've walked past it so many times. It's not just a pizza shop. It's more like a Diner, as it has seating and serves a variety of food. But since it's called Old City Pizza I tried the pizza. And the dessert looked so tasty that I tried a couple of those as well. The pizza is sold in huge slices. Unfortunately, my huge slice only had a few pepperoni on it. It tasted good, but such a huge slice needs a firmer crust and more pepperoni. It was difficult to eat with the floppy crust. For dessert I had a piece of chocolate cake and a slice of cheesecake. Good desserts but not quite up to the level of a good bakery. I had a good lunch at Old City Pizza, but with so many food options in Old City I don't know that I will feel motivated to come back. read more

One other reviewer hit the nail on the head in their review by saying that this reminded them of an old Clint Eastwood movie, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Spot on, thought it was a bad day when I was there, but this is truly spot on. I was on my way back to my hotel to get some much deserved rest after some good city walking and knew that I should grab some food to take back with me. At first I was going to find a place online but was tired of looking at my phone and just decided to take in the sights as I walked. I came upon Old City Pizza and figured why not grab something to go. Walking in, there was not many people inside. Didn't think much of it at the time, but some things come to light a little later than you think. Never been here before I wanted a chance to look over the menu. Which if I remember correctly were posted up above the counter and there was a smaller area where specials were listed. I didn't approach the counter when I first came in here as I wanted to read over the menu. That didn't stop the owner, or at least I assume she was the owner, from continually asking me if I was ready to order. After about the third time I just caved and went with Mom's Homemade Baked Lasagna. I believe it was listed as a special for the day, but appears to be a regular menu item. I figure with Mom in the title that this was going to be some stellar meal and that is why I hurriedly went with it. After being pressured to order I figured that meant that the food would be coming out fairly quickly, that is after some prep of it. However, not the case. I ended up waiting a good chunk of time for my food to come out. In fact, there were two other customers that came in after me and ordered that received their items before me. When I finally did get my order I had a few blocks to walk before hitting my hotel. Normally I don't complain about my walks, but this very short walk was one of the most painful ones for me. My food was placed in a too small paper bag. With it being piping hot it was very hard to handle. The heat caused moisture which meant I could not carry it as a bag is meant to be carried. With it being piping hot also meant that I could not carry it by hand because, unfortunately, I left my oven mitts at home for this trip. I had to pull the sleeves down to cover my forearms so I could kind of cradle it against myself. I kept having to rotate it from side to side as to not burn myself. Try doing this when you are also juggling your drink and other items you accumulated throughout the day. When I finally did get to room and able to put it down it was a relief. This lasagna came with a side salad and bread. The side salad was a disappointment, I had the butt of the lettuce in it which just made me not want to go any further into it. The bread was decent enough, you really can't mess up bread. However, the "Mom's" lasagna was quite watery. Like it was either brought in or premade and then frozen. The piping hot was probably from a microwave. It was a memorable meal, but not for the good reasons, more for the bad and ugly. At least it looks like they got the "old" portion of the name correct. read more

This is one of the very few pizza places that are near the DMV area that actually isn't a big heart attack after devouring. I like that there isn't a ton of sauce and a ton of cheese, but it is just the right amount for the enjoyment. I got two slices (not realizing they're were giant slices) and I believe I paid $9.75 with a small drink on the side. That's fair considering one slice is good enough for one. Would come back again! When it's a hot day and you're wandering about the city of Philadelphia in between the Liberty Bell and the home of Betsy Ross, you're going to need to take a break - this is where Old City Pizza comes in. A small, old style restaurant that has a seriously full menu that is full of what sounds like delicious food. I ordered a simple slice - sausage. The pizza slice is giant. What would be a typical slice doubled. It was amazingly crispy and fantastic. My son went out on a limb and asked for a Philly Cheesesteak - but with half provolone and half whiz. He's been reluctant to try it with Cheez Whiz because he could never figure out why people ate them that way. Not three bites into the toasty roll was his mind changed forever. I don't think he'll ever eat a cheesesteak with provolone again. There was just "something about the saltiness of the whiz that made it better.." To top it off, the kid then ordered a slice of rose berry cake. He said it had a great flavor and was just perfect. The waitress (the only one there) was more than happy to cater to us - and all the other patrons. I want to guess it's a Greek family based upon her accent and having some Greek dishes available on the menu(??) Could be? Anyway, the lunch was probably the best we'll have in Philly while we visit. Pizza was pretty good, it was made on a thin crust which I enjoyed. Service was fast, I walked in and ordered at the counter and had my food within five minutes or so. This place appears to be owned by a family, and there is a lot of Greek food on the menu that I look forward to trying. This is a Greek restaurant's attempt at pizza. It is a bold claim and even a bigger goal of "best pizza in town." It is likely the best pizza in town crafted by a non-Italian. It is a big slice that was under $4, which is on par with average. The slice was, meh. I would consider dinging it a star for 25% crust, as seen in the photo, but let's consider they are still learning the distance between the sauce and crust is one knuckle. read more

This pizza reminded me of the pizza sold in my childhood everywhere from a truck or the local 'Pizza Parlor' as they were called in the 70's.
