Every time we go to this side of town, we pass this shop, and this is the only time we have the courage to try it. They are pretty popular with locals and tourists. If you're driving through benson you have to stop at old benson ice cream stop! I love their glaciers. Their Pumpkin Pie glacier (which is seasonal) is usually my fav. I've always wanted to stop here for ice cream. Ice cream is my favorite snack. But once at the shop, couldn't decide what to try as there are so many flavors. So many sound so good, I walked inside and got prompt service. I opted for a medium cappuccino soft serve. It was the ideal size. Super cute ice cream shop in the middle of Benson. There was a steady line going through drive thru the whole time we were there ordering/eating our ice cream. There's an area where you can walk inside and order, which is what we did so we could take our time reading the menu. The ice cream here is very average. I had a chocolate soft serve waffle cone, which was ok. The cone was definitely not made in house. The ice cream tasted like a Wendy's frosty, which isn't a bad thing! My husband got a cherry dipped vanilla cone. The cherry tasted almost medicinal, and he liked my ice cream better. The flavors were all artificial from bottles that you can see lining the shop walls. Definitely a cool experience to go to an old-school ice cream shop, but don't expect the best ice cream. read more

The Old Benson Ice Cream Shop reminds me of local dairy bars you find in the Midwest. I was so excited when we drove by that we just had to turn around and stop! There just aren't very many small local ice cream shops in Tucson. They have a variety of ice cream syrup flavors, sundaes, milkshakes, and slushies! There was a lot to choose from it was hard to pick. I ended up getting a prickly pear pomegranate concrete. It was good but not as tangy as I thought it would be. I love this little place. When we went they had a for sale sign up. I hope that whomever buys it will keep it open so that people can continue to enjoy this unique rare find. read more

What a lovely little place in the center of Benson Arizona. We came through on a Sunday drive through the desert southwest and this was a much needed stop to cooloff from the heat of the day. I tend to avoid little mom and pop places in small towns because due to slow business the prices are usually a little higher. This was not the case at the Benson Ice Cream Shop. For the three of us it was about $12. They have over 50 icecream flavors they make up right on the spot. I highly recommend the caramel or bitter pecan. Great place to stop! Where else can you get so many flavors of soft serve, and *nobody* has the flavors of dipped cones that they do. Caveat: no indoor seating. On the day we were there it was way too windy to be outside, so we ate our treats in the car. Everyone loved their ice cream. I had the peppermint soft serve, which was wonderful. Service was great. On our way to Tombstone, we saw this cute little ice cream shop and figured it would be the perfect stop to grab something on our way home. At first glance, it reminded me of an ice cream place that I frequently visited during high school in a different town so I was really excited to try it out! The inside was very small - there was only a little area to stand and order - however, the menu is fairly large. The sign that said they had 24 softserve flavors immediately caught my eye and after much debate I decided to go with the white chocolate soft serve & my date got the blueberry soft serve. We were told that they make the flavors to order but it only took a few minutes for them to get us our delicious treat. The blueberry flavor tasted pretty much exactly like what you'd think blueberry ice-cream would taste like and the white chocolate was as I expected (although it didn't taste too much like true white chocolate). The regular cone was a little bit disappointing so I'd probably try the waffle cone next time. Definitely stop in when you're driving through the town! read more

On the way back to Tucson from Tombstone my friend and I noticed this little ice cream shop across the gas station. We decided to go through the drive-thru and see what it's all about. Their sign of 20+ soft serve flavors convinced us! It took a while for the wait, I believe there was only one worker. Besides soft serves they had hard serve and other dessert varieties including sundaes and banana splits etc My friend and I both decided to go with the soft serves. Their flavors were interesting. She chose the chocolate and I chose the red velvet cake. I didn't think my ice cream tasted like anything, like I seen others also say on the other reviews. It really tasted like a vanilla ice cream and the red was just food coloring? That's my assumption. My friend said her chocolate did taste like it but it was faint. Massive menu that takes a while to look through. They have like 3 dozen flavors of softserve, plus about 6 regular "hard ice cream" flavors, plus slushies and other options. So first decide what type of dessert you want, then decide if you want it in a cone/sundae/milkshake etc. and the flavors. It's super inexpensive and very good. I had a sundae with hot fudge and vanilla and chocolate, with whipped cream and nuts. It was huge and I could only finish half. Driving for hours really puts a strain on my back and stomach pains. Then comes a tiny town called Benson and with a few clicks I found this charming, old school ice cream shop ready to fix my soft serve craving. On one of their main drags, you'll see this shop on the corner with an indoor take out window and a convenient drive thru. I actually parked because I wanted to ask questions and didn't want to be "that girl" who held up the line in the drive thru. Inside you'll see two order windows without any seating. If you plan to eat there, plan accordingly to either eat in your vehicle or outside on their few tables. For all of you who adore soft serve, this is a must stop because they have 50+ flavors to choose from. Yes, 50+! How?? They use vanilla soft serve as a base and with a special cup and mixer, they can add your choice of flavor (they use Torani syrups) to blend it together. In less than a minute out comes this dessert served either in a cone or cup with your individual flavor. Ingenious concept and I'm surprised no one else has copied this idea. Sizes range from kids to large and my small Maple Nut cone (less than $2) was just enough to take the edge off. They have this cute little bell that you can ring to grab there attention if they are busy inside but I didn't have to use it. The girl was kind and patient while my friend and I decided what type of flavor we wanted. They serve at least 50 soft serve flavors. I decided to get the chocolate flavor because I was hesitant from the reviews I read regarding-the flavors not tasting like the descriptions. My chocolate taste like low sugar chocolate and my friends flavor was not satisfying either tasted like a plain vanilla cone with added food coloring.
