Low light and fancy ambience. As soon as you enter you can definitely get the high end restaurant feel. Waiters were all very friendly and professional. We were treated nice as soon as we entered. We didn't have reservation, but they accommodated us right away. One thing I wish they would do on their menu is include how many pieces/slices of fish you're getting on all menu items. They have it on some, not all. If you have a big appetite,i probably wouldn't recommend this place as the portions are extremely small. I understand that it may be that "japanese style" and you're paying for some high quality meat and fish. We ordered the: Waygu Tartar, Spicy tuna roll, Yuzu Yellowtail, and the Fried Shiitake Red Snapper. The Waygu Tartar is essentially high quality meat that you're eating raw. At first it tasted very delicious, but as you keep eating it, i think it got to me that I was eating raw meat and it wasn't appetizing towards the end. Definitely an acquired taste. Spicy Tuna Roll: Very delicious. I enjoyed the fried onions they garnished it with. Not much to say! I'd order it again. Yuzu Yellow Tail: I wish their menu would tell you how many pieces you were getting. It came with 4 slices. They were very delicious and flavorful! Really enjoyed dinner here! Feels upscale and clean, dim lighting, music playing. Our server was Dani, she was very nice and attentive. We tried tons of different dishes, everything was delicious! The Wagyu was melt in your mouth good, so was the yellowtail & the tuna handroll! The edamame was SO good, not spicy, super garlicky couldn't stop eating it! The fries were super crispy the seasoning on them added a little kick, delicious! The only thing we didn't really care for was the crispy rice, it was just too much rice. Wow!! So happy to have an upscale Japanese restaurant in Downtown Redlands. The place is two stories with plenty of seating. The decor was beautiful. SERVICE: Outstanding! The hostess at the front was super friendly and got us seated for our reservation very quickly. Our table server Danni was fabulous!! She was very helpful for us first-timers and was super attentive and friendly. (We'll be coming back if we get treated this good!! Great hire) FOOD: So delicious!! Came here for soft opening. It was so cute. I love the vibes. Nice bar and they have a second floor. The service was very nice, I forgot our servers name but he was very nice. The food was so amazing here it might become a regular spot for me. The wagyu was worth the price and the garlic noods were probably the best I've ever had. If you love garlic or hate Vampires, get that ish. The bartender Dom was friendly and welcoming. Our server Zoey was so kind, helpful, and accommodating. Zoe was our server, she was very attentive, well versed on the menu, very sweet, and gave great recommendations. Tried two cocktails: the lychee one and another I can't recall but had tequila. Both were very good. Steak frites with the Japanese chimi on it was fire. So good that we ordered another one. One small critique is the first steak was a little chewy. Second one came out like butter. Can't remember all of the names of the things we ordered, but yuzu yellowtail was our number one winner. We ordered another one of those as well. We got edamame, oh and the miso soup!!! The miso soup was so rich, so salty, the dashi you could taste the hours of cook, the mushrooms added a great earthiness. Our kids loved it. The baked shitaki crisps on fish was amazing. The salad had this sesame dressing that was so good, I wanted more cucumber in it. Crispy salmon was soooo good! The crisp on the rice is phenomenal. I genuinely don't understand the hype around this place. The restaurant is aesthetically nice, but once you get past the atmosphere, the experience was incredibly disappointing. The service was horrible. Everything was painfully slow, our server was inattentive, and we spent way too much of the night waiting around or trying to get someone's attention. For a restaurant charging these kinds of prices, the level of service was honestly unacceptable. The food was somehow even more disappointing. It is EXTREMELY overpriced for the quality and portions you receive. Nothing we ordered stood out, the sushi rice was warm and bland, and the overall quality did not come close to justifying the prices. It felt like a restaurant trying very hard to look and price itself like a high-end Japanese dining experience without actually delivering one. If you're looking for authentic Japanese food, I would absolutely go somewhere else. This felt much more focused on presentation, trendy decor, and expensive menu prices than the actual food or experience. There are far too many genuinely great Japanese restaurants to spend this much money somewhere with mediocre food and terrible service. We left feeling like we had completely wasted our money. Bf and I went to State Street to look around and parked right in front and noticed a new restaurant was open. We were surprised because two weeks before we saw the location and was wondering what will open after Rock N Fondue closed. So we were pleasantly surprised to see the new restaurant and decided to try it. It was their official opening night. We were greeted and seated right away. The interior was so chic and elegant, with more tables upstairs. My only tiny critique would be the music was slightly too loud for my taste, but I understand it's a bar restaurant. All service was so friendly and great. The menu is an interesting Japanese fusion, which we love. The drinks were also very interesting. I had the Corpse Reviver and the Crispy Rice (with spicy tuna). He had the Sunomono salad and the Yuzu Yellowtail. All was so good! The drink has several liquors in it and it was plenty for me to sip on throughout the night. We look forward to going again. read more

Yes, everything is over priced and you can get all these items with better flavor at any local AYCE sushi for half the price. We were over charged and they never answered the phone to fix the issue. Definitely beautiful ambiance and a good place for a date night. Fish was fresh, however the cuts were not done very well. Our sushi rice was lacking in flavor and also very warm, which made the raw fish warm as well. The yellowtail specialty roll was the best dish of the night, but quite overpriced at $24. read more

Do not ask for omakase and expect to get omakase, they should really not tell people they offer this because they are calling a platter of sashimi and nigiri and calling it omakase. They did not ask if we had allergies before serving us this platter. The chefs looked super stressed and busy, never treated us or acknowledged us. Took almost 10 minutes for the bartender to ask us if we wanted drinks. The bar stools are so uncomfortable. And then the "omakase" was do flavorless....sadly not going back. Great overall atmosphere- I wish they updated the bathrooms. They were dirty and out of toilet seat covers. Took 40 minutes for two orders of sashimi- how long does it take to bring out raw fish? Very limited menu. When we first sat down we asked to sit at the bar, but they said they had reservations for the bar, the bar stayed pretty empty. Then while my husband and I were enjoying ourselves trying to finish our sake they asked us to move to the bar because they had a reservation. Pricey for what it is. Date night with my husband and we landed here, even without a reservation the hostess was very accommodating. We've been highly anticipating their opening and it didn't disappoint! We sat at the very chic bar in front of the sushi chefs and very glad we did, Chef was so friendly and very proud of his work. He made us omakase (our favorite) even though it wasn't on their menu yet and it was phenomenal. He was very skilled and everything he made was so tasty. Bartender was very nice as well. Atmosphere is excellent. Keeping the brick walls, vaulted ceiling, and wooden beams really sets the tone when you walk in as it is matched with soft lighting. The cocktails are unique and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients. The food is equally as fresh, and the presentations fantastic. The wagyu tartare with the sliced pears, chips, and white sauce was incredible. My primary reason for the 4 stars is not due to the quality of the sushi, but rather the variety in flavors/preparation. The 14 piece premium sushi special was presented equally as well as the other dishes, however given the number of pieces, some of the flavors seemed redundant and relied on wasabi in a few cases rather than the preparation of the fish. The servers were all very professional and greeted us with smiling faces. Overall excellent experience in a new restaurant that is headed the right direction and bound to succeed. read more
