Steak and eggs, jerk was warm but good!

Good food. Went for brunch, limited non breakfast items. What we did have was good. Look forward to trying dinner. Very nice atmosphere.

The atmosphere is very pretty in downtown historic Bluffton! Very clean and beautifully decorated. The food was delish-nice and hot! Brussels Sprouts and Mac N Cheese were good. The Oxtail was tasty although I would have liked a bit more spice. The Coconut Curry with rice was very good (says my husband) and my daughter loves the African Gumbo. Service was great and drinks were on point. My first time there.

This place is stunning! We only came for drinks and will be back for food and their DJ night. There's representation of different cultural cuisines across the diaspora. This is was Baobab in Savannah WISHES it could be. Not a hint of cultural appropriation or monetization. I had the liberté and it tasted just like home, beautiful made. The space is equally beautiful and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Was surprised they didn't have barbancourt, but I'm okay with it seeing as they have Djon Djon and pikliz. Well done!

10/10 meal and service This restaurant is a gem to have in the area. Brining flavor and diversity to every plate. The tostones, octopus and beet salad were our favorite starter plates! My son loved the butter noodles with sweet plantains. The main plates were delicious. Check out the pictures for proof! The atmosphere was perfect for a date night or an intimate family dinner. I hope to visit again next time I'm in town.

Beautiful decor, kind staff, interesting and delicious food. Tried the ackee and salt fish. Fun to try something new. Plantains complemented the saltiness of the fish beautifully. Breakfast potatoes. Yum! Blue crab and blue grits. Decadent and delicious. Hibiscus tea was a highlight! Best I've had. Not overly sweet or sour. Brewed nice and strong and just enough sweetness.

I've been looking forward to trying Okan since they opened and I finally made it while visiting the area in November. I ordered the crispy mushrooms which were very good. I also had the red stew, lemon pepper chicken and callaloo. The chicken seemed more of a baked or air fried flavor as I didn't taste any lemon pepper but it was good. The stew and callaloo lacked something I can't put my finger on but definitely a miss. The service was a little slow, but it's a nice restaurant just a little disappointing for me on this visit.

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time and finally got here. I was disappointed there was only a brunch menu available because I'm not usually a brunch girl... but HOLY WOW! Everything was SO AMAZING! Judging from everything I tried being off the charts, I'd imagine there can't be a bad thing on the menu. I can't wait to come in and try the dinner menu! Will definitely be back very soon and often. The service was great, the food was phenomenal, and it's a beautiful establishment.

We are pseudo regulars here. Food great, Master Bernard AWESOME. In the end the piece de final? Olu and Alyssa are two of the best bartenders in Bluffton. And the South African house wines are amazing.

We went to this restaurant while on vacation. We made a reservation and were seated once we arrived. We ordered the crispy oysters, Jamestown shrimp, coco bread, smoked Jerk chicken and a bottle of red wine. Roderick was just wonderful with assisting us with the menu and helping us choose. He was extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu and knew exactly how to place the order so that everything didn't arrive to the table at once. He knew that our dinner would take 18 minutes to prepare. We will definitely be back when we visit Hilton Head next year! From the time we arrived until we left he took

Great concept, love the interior, but service was quite slow. We waited almost an hour to get our food. We ordered Moroccan tagine and djon djon noodles. If I have 2 hours to kill, I might go to this place and wait for my food. Su per cozy inside, African decor on the walls and jazz music setting the mood

I chose this restaurant based on the high ratings and an intriguing menu--but what a letdown. There was a huge gap between expectation and reality. Service: It took 50 minutes to get our food--and there were fewer than 10 people in the restaurant at lunchtime. No excuse for that kind of wait. Food: * Cornbread: Just... no. It had an odd, almost plantain-like flavor (if that's what it was?), but not in a good way. It was also overcooked and slightly burnt. * Djon Djon with Shrimp: Word of warning--do not order this if you're on a date unless you want to look like you've been possessed. Your mouth turns black. The mushrooms were flavorful, and the dish itself was okay, but the presentation and side effects? Yikes. * Shrimp: I love head-on shrimp, but these were so overcooked they were impossible to peel. Do you eat the shell or just give up? I tried... and gave up. Overdone and dry. A little fat or oil during cooking would've gone a long way. * Fonia Bowl with Jerk Chicken: Probably the best of the bunch, but still just meh. Maybe a 6/10. Add it all up--slow service, disappointing food, and an $80 lunch tab--and it's a hard pass from me.

The gumbo plate is gumbo, but more soupy than traditional, thicker based gumbo. It's served on a plate with rice. Delicious! It's served with Andouille sausage, grilled shrimp and chunks of ham. The fried okra was enough to feed four people, and it was also good -- the way fried okra should be made - crispy, not greasy, lightly breaded. This okra was seasoned with a dusting of grated Parmesan, I think, different, but tasty. Chef B's provides a mustard-based buffalo, ranch sauce for dipping. We didn't need it. The deviled egg rolls were plentiful. These could have been a meal instead of an appetizer - three egg rolls, halved; oxtail, deviled crab and chicken. The soy-based sauce was sweet and salty and a great accompaniment for the egg rolls. Our cocktails came with way too much ice, but we both enjoyed our drinks, after removing the mountain of ice cubes from mine, I probably had less than half a glass of my cocktail. The highlights were the candied yams with a bourbon sauce. So good! The best thing I tasted was the banana pudding cake. I was a little apprehensive, at first, because we had so much food and I didn't want a heavy cake. Trust me and save room for this. The cake is served in a stemmed goblet and had the most moist and fluffy cake mixed in with Nila wafers and creamy pudding. Divine! The best banana pudding I ever had. The service was a little uneven. We had to wait a while for plates, sauces, to-go boxes, etc. A couple of times, we got up and went over to our server, who wasn't checking on us. The food came out hot and quickly. The service wasn't bad, just slow, on the items we needed to accompany our meals, like spoons. The restaurant is new and housed in a compound with Bachaus Bakery, Ma Daisy's Porch and De Market with outdoor seating on the Chef B's patio or on the Adirondack chairs in the middle of the establishments, if your grabbing a quick bite.

It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

The outside looks to be going through some renovation, but the interior looks like it's almost done. Open space, nice and fresh. We both ordered the chicken sandwich, one Nashville, one regular and made meals of it with tater tots and chips. We both had tea, though they had Coke products as well. The chicken was very freshly fried and delicious. Great taste. Both the tots and chips were also nice and crispy, plus piping hot. Couldn't ask for nicer or quicker service. We chatted with the owner/chef on our way out- couldn't have been nicer. Highly recommend and we'll be back to try other menu items (chicken dinners, shrimp and grits etc.). Plenty of 'southern' representation on the menu to choose from without being too greasy or over-the-top. This felt like home cooking in a trend forward atmosphere. Debbie and I stopped in about an hour before closing, not expecting much--just a quick bite. What we got instead was hands down one of the best seafood meals I've had in a long time. First off, we met the owner, Jim Scully--absolute legend. Friendly, genuine, and actually takes the time to sit and chat. You just don't see that anymore. Great conversation, great energy... set the tone right away. Now let's talk FOOD... * Fried oysters & shrimp - ridiculously good. Light, crispy, not greasy at all. You can tell everything is top quality. * Coleslaw - vinegar-based, shredded, and honestly reminded me of proper German kraut salad. Perfect balance with the seafood. * Soft shell crab... alright, this is where things got serious. "It was like a circus in my mouth... just an explosion of flavors." I'm not exaggerating. The texture was creamy, not oily, and the batter was just perfect. One of those bites where you just stop and look at each other like... yep, this is special. On top of that: * Everything is made with high-quality ingredients * Prices are very reasonable for what you're getting (honestly, some places charge double for worse) * BYOB (bring your own wine/beer = big win ) * Huge menu--seafood, ribs, BBQ, pulled pork, chicken, desserts... you name it Final verdict: (three thumbs up from Debbie & me) If you're in Hilton Head and even thinking about seafood--this is a hidden gem you don't want to miss.
