Written by a Northern-bred girl with southern familial roots... What it is not: Not fancy, not going to help you stick to any type of diet What it is: Reminiscent of home cooked meals of my childhood served up by ladies who remind me of my grandmother, my aunties, and beloved church mothers. Service is delivered with warm smiles that linger almost as long as the southern drawls. You can get a breakfast that fills your belly (and probably your hips, too) for under $10.

Sweet baby Jesus, I haven't had green beans this good since I was sitting in my Nanny's kitchen. The okra was firm and breaded perfectly, did I mention the green beans? Mac 'n cheese that was deliciously cheesy, the red potatoes were buttery and almost melt in your mouth, and I cannot say enough about the green beans. The baked spaghetti looked really good so that will be for the next trip.

Fried chicken, potato salad, squash casserole, macaroni and roll. ALL amazing

Really great home cooking. Can personally recommend macaroni, potato salad, squash casserole, fried chicken, pork chops and fried fish. Different specials on different days but everything is good so can't miss.

Fried chicken, fried okra, Mac n cheese, cornbread. So good!!

Food is just fair. Never hot. A slow line even when not crowded. No one is in a hurry. It has a relaxed atmosphere.

Good food. Good customer service. When you call your order in you have to pay over the phone. But that's not an issue for me.

I went at 11am on a Sunday during peak church hours and though we have 15 reservations ahead of us, we only waited for 20 minutes or so, The food is really good. My friend thought her omelette and potatoes were great. The blueberry waffles I thought were good. Nothing special to say, but it's hard to mess up waffles in my opinion and Stax Omega sure didn't miss. I love consistently and Stax Omega is a great consistent and clean diner. If you are looking for a place to take the family to, especially when the grandparents are involved, this is a great option. And I have to emphasize again: LESS than a 30 minute wait when I had 15 RESERVATIONS ahead of me!

Their breakfast is what keeps me coming back. Everything is done right, and it hits the spot every single time. And the desserts? Absolutely incredible -- I can never leave without one (or two). Great food, and clearly a lot of other people agree. Stax Omega has earned its crowd. If you haven't been yet, get in line -- you won't regret it! The only thing that I would change is the waiting area and being limited to only checking in through their tablet. There should be a way to check in without confirming at the tablet, to which there's always a crowd in front of.

I have to say it's the complete opposite. It's well kept, clean, welcoming, and family friendly( during the daytime) The menu has ample options with a handful of very non traditional ramen options. There's something for everyone and it's almost hard to decide with out just ordering way too much. I ordered the ricotta with honey and pecans and grilled focaccia. I was tempted to change it to a burger but soooo glad I didn't. The dish was amazing. The perfect creaminess of the cheese and sweetness from the honey, slightly salted and the delicious grilled bread. Omg it was hard to stop eating it. I'd go here and just order this and be happy. Next was the hot chicken ramen. I'll be honest in more of a traditional ramen guy but they make these weird combinations woe. The chicken was crispy and the broth was flavorful. This balance of sweet savory broth that some how balances out just right. The noodles were overcooked for my liking but that's an extremely easy fix considering everything else was good. I'd love to go back when passing through again and try some of the other menu items. They seem to take pride in the food they send out and I can we why people love this place.

Kendall's Grill…read more After driving past it for a couple of decades, I finally stopped at Kendall's Grill. What a mistake I made. All those years I could have had golden, crispy chicken tenders and burgers like Dad used to make. No, I blew it. But I'm making up for lost time--I went twice in one week. Once for the chicken, and again for a burger. Fast review: A burger you don't want to wait 10 years to try. Fried chicken that might make Zaxby's rethink their approach. Let's back up Kendall's opened in 2009. Judging by the orange floor tile, this might have been a Hardee's long ago, but they've remodeled quite a bit. The vibe now is part drive-in, part diner. The front counter is right by the entrance. The kitchen sits just beyond a serving partition. To the left is a full-service ice cream case. To the right, a bar where you can watch your food being prepared. There are cushioned booths inside and several picnic tables out on the porch. Pop music plays throughout. The staff? Always moving, always working--but still taking time to say hello. Friendly, efficient, skilled. The owner is doing something right at the very root of a good restaurant: the people. Part 1 - The Chicken Kendall's sits on West Blue Ridge Drive, right in that "is this Sans Souci or City View?" stretch near Cedar Lane Road. It's a stone's throw from Swamp Rabbit Grocery and about 2.1 miles from Cherrydale. Heads up--left turns into the lot require some attention. The nice lady at the counter helped me navigate the menu, and it is wide: specialty burgers, chicken sandwiches, cheesesteaks, salads, seafood, loaded mac & cheese, hot dogs. The printed menu runs five pages. But I was there for the hand-breaded chicken fingers. They offer 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7-piece options, from $5.99 to $9.99, or $12.99 to $16.99 for combos with a side, toast, coleslaw, a dipping sauce, and a drink (hold onto that thought). I ordered the 4-piece combo, upgraded from fries (straight or crinkle!) to mac & cheese, chose Nashville hot sauce (14 options total), and grabbed a Pepsi. $12.99 plus tax and tip. Drinks are self-serve--fountain sodas, tea, water, and regular or strawberry lemonade. I took a half-table by the window, facing the door (IYKYK). Within minutes, my food arrived--hot, fresh, and plated. Presentation? Classic diner style. Real plate, real bowl. The toast was a thick, golden slice--perfect for making two little chicken sliders. I'm not a coleslaw fan, but this one was crisp, not overly mayo-heavy, and not soggy. The mac & cheese is worth the trip by itself. Creamy roux, real cheese flavor, each elbow noodle still slightly al dente, still steaming when it hit the table. This is closer to Mom's kitchen than anything rehydrated from a cup. And the chicken? About perfect. Tender, juicy, fried just right. You can taste the difference between hand-breaded and "fresh-from-the-box." This was the real thing. Only complaint: I wish the four tenders were a little larger. The Nashville sauce brought the heat. Next time I'm trying the Gold BBQ, Korean BBQ, and Sweet Red Chili. Stay tuned for part 2!

Also tried the tots and onion rings- both greasy and the tots too salty. I'm not a huge fan of smash burgers and was assured the fresh handpattied burgers were thicker and better than that (I'll share the pic- they were not) and my husband put the meat from his cheesesteak on 2/3 the bun, which was better. Quite a few pieces of gristle in those thin patties though . The kids working the place are friendly and we watched several refilling the ice and drink machine. No AC didnt help with the atmosphere - it was hot and muggy. Overall, it was Worth a shot considering several people said it was the best burger -- so I was hoping this hole-in the-wall style joint was a hidden gem but just isn't (for anyone wanting a quality burger in Greenville. I'm so glad we found this little gem while searching for a great burger in downtown Greenville!…read more This small burger joint, tucked just off the main street, completely exceeded our expectations. Everything is made from scratch; from the fresh burger patties and soft, homemade buns to the delicious pralines they hand out as a sweet palate cleanser at the end of your meal. You can absolutely taste the difference. The restaurant is small with limited seating (first come, first served), with seating along the windows and down the side, and a couple of outdoor tables. You order at the counter, grab your number, and then find a seat. Even though it's a casual, fast-service restaurant, the hospitality was anything but ordinary. We were greeted the moment we walked in by the sweetest older gentleman whose genuine Southern hospitality made us feel so welcome. He even stopped by to chat with us during our meal, making the whole experience feel warm and personal. The food was outstanding! My burger was cooked perfectly....juicy, flavorful, and served on one of the best hamburger buns I've ever had. It was incredibly soft but somehow never got soggy or fell apart, even with all the cheese and sauce. They offer about 10 different flavor options for burgers. They even offer grilled chicken sandwiches and Open face burgers. I ordered the Sawyer Burger ($13.95), topped with chili garlic glazed pork belly, Asian slaw, and crispy onion straws. It was absolutely delicious and well worth the price considering the quality and generous portion. The fries deserve their own review! So many burger places treat fries as an afterthought, but not here. The portions are huge and perfectly seasoned. I chose the Buffalo Blue Cheese fries, and they were packed with flavor. I wish I'd had room to try the Parmesan fries, which sounded like a customer favorite. Even the tiny bathroom was charming, covered in funny and quirky signs that made me smile. If I lived in Greenville, I'd definitely become a regular. Amazing food, generous portions, homemade quality, friendly service, and true Southern hospitality. I can't recommend this place enough!
