    Unagi Don and Miso Soup
    Ryan S.

I got the Unagi Don and Miso Soup, and both were good (4/5). I wish the unagi Don had a bit more eel in it, but it was an adequate amount for the price. The best value is definitely the bento boxes, which I will try next time. You order at the counter and either bring your food upstairs to eat in takeout containers or to go. They make the food pretty quick (within 10 minutes for us), so service is pretty good (4/5). The restaurant is simply decorated, and there isn't too much dining space upstairs or space between tables (3/5). It is definitely more of a to go place but very reasonably priced and good value!

Food is freshly made and it is piping hot so be careful and let it cool for a second! Food is delicious and has great portions! Service is great and really quick! They even have a board upstairs to show when your order is ready so you don't need to stress about hearing your number called! It's a cute little place but is packed with flavor and is very reasonably priced!

Oishii never disappoints! The food is delicious and comforting, and the service is extremely fast and convenient. The interior is very casual and lowkey, but I love to go to the upstairs seating to just chill, enjoy my food, and chat with friends. The perfect casual lunch/dinner place. My favorite dish is the Bulgogi Bibimbap, which is one of my favorite bibimbaps ever, because it's just so fresh, filling, and flavorful. I have gotten the udon too which is solid, and the beef bowl is a good shout too. Definitely worth a try, one of my staple places in Pittsburgh!

It took me too long to have tried this place after both going to school and working in Oakland. I understand why this is such a staple for folks. I went a few weeks back with my coworkers and today again and got the tonkatsu bento. You get such a nice portion of meat, rice, the glass noodle salad, for the price. Comes with two slices of pickled radish and two gyoza. My gyoza were cold but still good. Pretty dingy storefront and I have never dined in so I'm not sure what the dining area looks like, but the staff are friendly and efficient.

This place never fails! They've been consistent throughout the years. You know you get a good meal whenever you order from there. Also, you can't go wrong with anything you choose from their menu. This place gets busy and it's best to order online for a pickup. In terms of seating, there's limited space available. Best bang for a wholesome healthy meal!

I honestly really like this place. Portions are big and decently priced. I usually always get the spicy pork bowl and it tastes great and has just the right amount of spiciness. There is a small upstairs section for eating and there are numbers up there so you know when your order is ready. Pictures was from take out.

Love these signs! One is clearly targeted to UPItt students.

My sons and I stopped here in July 2023 for a casual lunch before going on a visiting student tour at Pitt. This is a pretty good option for casual Korean lunch dishes (bento boxes) for take out. The restaurant itself is feels cramped but is conveniently located in Oakland within the heart of the University of Pittsburgh's campus. I would say that finding nearby street parking at lunch is a major challenge here. It's easier to park a few blocks away (we found spots close to the business school) and then walk back 10-15 minutes. I tried the chicken katsu dish (which is basically fried chicken bits with rice), but my sons enjoyed the bulgogi dish. The portions of food are larger than you might expect (it can be saved for a future meal). Once you order at the front register, you'll receive a number and can stay in the waiting area until they call out the order number (we waited for 15 minutes). I'm guessing that many Pitt students and staff place their "to go" orders for convenient pickup during the academic year.

Since I had never been here before, and also don't know very much about Korean food, I chose the first item on the menu, the bulgogi beef bento box. It didn't take too long during a busy lunch hour and was delicious, but I was jealous that my dining partner got cucumber in her bowl (I forget the name). Next time, I'll get a bowl. TL;DR: Bento boxes are for meat lovers, while bowls are for veggie lovers.

Causal restaurant with great Korean/ Japanese food! If you're looking for a quick bite in Oakland by pitt campus that also tastes great this is a perfect spot My go to order is the Katsu Don bowl fried pork cutlet with eggs and onions over rice. They also have udon, bento boxes with different sides, and a variety of bowl options with different meats. All of them taste great and things are clearly labeled if they are spicy. You get to order at the counter and then you get an order number. There is a seating/ waiting area downstairs. And there are several tables upstairs. There is a sign that lists the order numbers when they're ready upstairs and downstairs which is very convenient. They also have some outdoor seating! Staff are very friendly and help! Overall great place to eat.

Bulgogi Bento with Barley Tea and Miso Soup

What an amazing hidden gem in Oakland! Oishii Bento may become one of my go to lunch spots while I'm still a college student, and I wish I would have found out about it sooner! As soon as you walk in, you get an authentic feel to this Japanese restaurant. They had free Barley tea available to the customers which speaks volumes to their overall hospitality! I ordered the Bulgolgi Bento Box and asked for it spicy! The bento box came with a VERY generous portion of bulgolgi, along side of rice, Japchae, two vegetable dumplings, radish pickles, and the choice of kimchi, salad, or miso soup. Since it was a cold day in Pittsburgh, I opted for the Miso Soup. Everything here was absolutely delicious, and there wasn't even a grain of rice left in my box when I finished! I can't wait to come back here and try some of their other bento boxes or even their bowls. This place was busy when I was here, but I only had to wait around 10 minutes for my food which is not bad at all! They offer upstairs seating to customers, which made the experience even better because this was a surprise to me! I can't wait to be back here!

I've been a student at Pitt for 3 years now, and this was my first time trying Oishii bento! Very impressed, and sad that I didn't try it before! I got the beef bulgogi bento box with rice, japche, pickled radish, and vegetable dumplings. (Online it says that it comes with kimchi too, but seems to be outdated info). Food took a little while to come out, but the food was hot and fresh!! I could totally tell that they cooked it to order. Normally I would have taken my food to go, but I decided to eat inside. There's a small seating area upstairs (probably about 15-20 seats at various sized tables). Workers were fairly nice, and the food was reasonably priced for the portion. My bento box was $14 ($15 with tax) and was very filling. Can't wait to come back and try more from this place!

    Bulgogi Bibimbap

As someone who grew up on Korean food...the food is amazing! I had the bulgogi bibimbap and it was very good! Their portions do not disappoint and the vegetables were fresh. Definitely coming back here!

Oishii bento hits the spot, that cannot be denied especially as a college student! If you want a filling and reasonably priced meal, def come here. I have been here constant times and I have tried the spicy pork bento, bulgogi bento, bibimbap, unagi bowl, galbi bento, and tonkatsu bowl! They were all super delicious, but I have to say my favorite is the spicy pork bento. You get a generous portion of meat and sides like dumplings, japchae, and radish!

Novo Asian Food Hall is a collection of Asian food, drinks, and desserts in the Strip District, specifically located in the Terminal building. There are individual restaurants and businesses serving their specific cuisine. There is a bar in the center of the floor, a non-alcoholic drink place, a bakery, and several restaurants. At the time of this visit, there were 4 different food stands, 1 tea/drink stand, 1 bakery stand, and the bar area. There is not specific designated parking for the Food Hall, but there is paid parking all around the Terminal building. Additionally, there are other options for street and paid lot parking throughout the Strip. There are several entrances to Novo - from the Terminal side on Smallman Street, from the back side of the building, and also a side entrance if you are already in the Terminal. The Food Hall is very large, and is easily identified with the signage. We stopped in on this night a little before 8 PM, and it was not too crowded. There were patrons for the restaurants and at the bar, but there were still plenty of seats all around the place. There are high and low top tables all around the dining room, and there is even bar seating in the center. You can sit wherever you please, as it is open seating. There are water pitchers and cups placed near the trash cans that are available for use by anyone in the Hall. On this trip, we purchased food from KungFu Chicken and Tan Vac Lien 2. Everything we had was good! It is nice to be able to mix and match different foods from the various stands to create a meal. I like to try new items from the different stands each time I visit the Food Hall. However, I have found some favorites that I find myself going back to each time (Fishcake Corn Dog!) The prices throughout Novo vary depending on which stand you are at. Some items can be a little pricy, but overall I believe the pricing is fair. A plus of being able to get such a variety of items is that you can share with a group, which may help to keep the cost manageable. Novo has good hours, but not all the stands are always all open at the same time. So, I would double check the place you wish to go will be open during your visit. Overall, I really like Novo Asian Food Hall, both conceptually and in practice. This has been a fun addition to the Strip, and I have enjoyed getting to try lots of different foods and cuisine during my visits. My only critique/note is that I hope that the vacancy of one of the stands can be filled quickly to add even more options and variety. I would recommend stopping here if you are looking for authentic Asian cuisine with a fun, social atmosphere. I look forward to trying even more of the options here during my future visits!

The cook served our chicken with a big smile and happy interaction and we really loved his personality. The bartender also stopped by to bus our table and he was very pleasant as well. We enjoyed the perfectly fried small plate cauliflower with the plum sauce and the fried cheese/garlic wonton bites with the sriracha mayo spicy dipping sauce. The fried chicken breast on the large plate was slightly overcooked with a maple gochuchang sauce that was very bland. We were so thankful that the large plate fried chicken came with a side salad to offer some respite from the heaviness of the fried dishes. It would have been great to have some side acidic or fresh vegetable options like Kimchi or something. Maybe we tried the wrong dishes and there are other not fried things that are delicious? The dirty martini cocktail was just so-so, not really much flavor at all, but the mojito was very good and refreshing. It's probably a good late-night place for a bite and drink.
