Sasaki Fine Pastry - Houjicha Cream Daifuku

Sasaki Fine Pastry is a specialty shop focused on Japanese daifuku, mochi, and traditional…read moredesserts, with a menu that centers on handmade sweets rather than a full bakery selection. We walked into a small space located inside J-Town, where the display case offers a wide variety of rotating flavors, making it easy to try something different with each visit. The shop is more of a grab-and-go stop than a place to sit for an extended visit, but the quality of the desserts makes it worth the short stop. The daifuku is the highlight here. The mochi has an incredibly soft, delicate texture that is not overly chewy, and the fillings are smooth, balanced, and not overly sweet. We tried a few flavors and found each one distinct, with the matcha, hojicha, and black sesame versions standing out for their depth of flavor. The strawberry and mango options offered a lighter, fruitier contrast, while the seasonal specials gave a reason to come back and see what was new. The dorayaki is also worth trying, with soft pancakes and a generous filling that pairs well with a cup of tea or coffee, and the texture of the pancakes held up well against the sweetness of the filling. Since everything is made fresh, popular flavors can sell out later in the day, so visiting earlier gives you the best selection. We noticed that the display case was fullest in the morning, and a few items were already gone by the afternoon. Individual pieces are priced higher than standard bakery desserts, but the quality and attention to detail help justify the cost. The freshness of the mochi and the care in the preparation are evident in each piece, and the flavors are well developed without relying on excessive sweetness. Sasaki Fine Pastry is one of the better places to try fresh Japanese mochi and daifuku in the Toronto area. The wide variety of flavors, consistently soft texture, and carefully made fillings make it an easy stop whether you are already visiting J-Town or specifically looking for authentic Japanese desserts. The combination of craftsmanship, freshness, and thoughtful flavor combinations makes it a destination worth seeking out for anyone who appreciates traditional Japanese sweets.

He explained he came from a long way.. I asked the lady if there will be more mochis as only a few mango's left. She said it will take time to make more and to come back at 4 pm. I find it makes no sense at all to come back an hour before they closed and they are not open on Sundays and Mondays.. so what happens they cannot sell the remaining on Sunday ? Anyhow, go early

It wasn't overly sweet and had a delicate flavor. They also offer a variety of baked goods, pastries, and cakes, so I'm excited to try something else next time. Plus, having parking available makes it even more convenient. The place was bright, clean and spacious with a friendly staff.

Was looking for a cheesecake for a birthday celebration since I know they love cheesecake but…read morewanted something a bit more special and not from a grocery store. Found this spot and they had a good selection mid afternoon to pick up on a Sunday. The person at the counter is super helpful in helping describe the cake. They have basque cheesecake which is more rich and the flavour I'm sure the person I'm gifting would confidently enjoy but I wasn't sure if they would prefer the lightness of the their popular options over the classic. She explained the glazed popular cheesecakes they have aren't regular New York style cheese cake (despite their Uber Eats describing it as such for their Yakult flavour cheese cake). It's more like cheesecake mousse. I didn't want to get the basque cheesecake because it didn't look as nice. So she said the black sesame is in between the classic basque / New York cheesecake and the popular glazed mousse cheesecake. It's also made of marscapone and layered with matcha and not too sweet. It's also her fav so I went with her recommendation. I notice the black sesame cake isn't shown as available on Uber Eats delivery. I decided to pick up in person to make sure the delivery goes smoothly. The price difference is just $1. However, Uber Eats does charge tax and other fees whereas there's no tax at all on pick up. I eventually tried a piece and it does taste like a hybrid cheesecake in texture though the middle thin layer is a bit soggy, though I didn't mind that part. However, even though I love matcha I'm not a fan of the matcha and black sesame combination. I think I would've like a layer with more intense black sesame as the cake itself and the black sesame very subtle. The matcha is more intense creating an imbalance and over powers the black sesame flavour in the cake. Still a tasty cake especially for someone that prefers lighter not too sweet cakes. Note the staff does hand you the payment and there's tip option of 10% as the lowest suggested option, which I found kinda excessive for just putting a cake in the box. They don't even make cakes at this location it's all made in the Sauga location and she didn't even write the happy birthday on the cake. I know it's optional but it's just the consumer experience, I tipped but I feel like the tipping culture is a bit excessive to pass onto the consumer to tip on an expensive cake. Just price the cake fairly to compensate the employee or waive for pick ups and have it for only dine ins. Unlike the previous review, it seems like they do provide a little free happy birthday topper and also a complimentary skinny candle and you're also welcome to buy extra candles if you want. They also sell some $10~ decorative helium balloons add on to make your celebration a bit more festive. This is their second location. The main one being in Sauga, which I've been told has been in operation for over 25 years apparently. This one I was told was opened in the last 2 years.

Their designs are abundant on the website and they really get the design to a tee, it was PERFECT. Flavour selection is pretty good and I did have a short call with them while ordering on their site to determine which flavour was recommended as well as what colours I wanted the cake design to emphasize. I had to check Google reviews to confirm instructions on their location, but when I got to the Langham Square plaza it was easy enough to find based on their address (unit number 2006). Staff gave clear instructions at pick up to keep the cake in the floor of the car during transport and to store the cake in a fridge until ready to eat. The box for transport was great because I got to check the design easily before leaving and the ribbon was tightly wrapped to secure the box cover to the base. The staff speak Mandarin as well as English. Payment was all done online beforehand. Highly recommend ordering their cakes for any event!
