I would like to take this opportunity to give my unequivocal recommendation to my contractor, Oren Ohayon and his company Ohayon Construction.
We hired Oren to take on the project of repairing water damage sustained to my parent's Marina del Rey condo, due to a roof leak that occurred over a year ago. Our HOA dragged their feet for about 6 months before finally abdicating responsibility and causing us to just hire a contractor ourselves, fix the problem, and deal with their responsibility after the fact.
The decision to hire Oren was one of the best I've ever made. What started out as what we thought would be a fairly simple repair, met with problems and obstacles at every turn. These problems were not Oren's fault, but he helped us navigate them with unfailing patience, professionalism and kindness throughout.
This will already be a lengthy review, so I won't even go into all the problems we encountered, but here are a few.
As mentioned, an HOA that abdicated all responsibility for the damages caused by their lack of proper roof maintenance.
Once Oren got into the project, we were dealing with mold abatement, which delayed Oren's work, while we brought in an abatement specialist to evaluate and advise remediation solutions.
At that point, it was established that there was severe termite damage that had to be evaluated by the HOA's exterminator, who had let the termites run rampant, destroying the beams and support structure of the interior walls.
All of this, on top of the fact that Oren's clients, my parents are 89 and 99 years old. My sweet dad suffers from dementia and my little mama has health issues too. Oren and all of his crews could not have been more kind, thoughtful or proactive in their efforts to keep my parent's home safe, comfortable and livable while the entire upper level (den, guest room and bathroom) were completely unlivable, and work had to be done in the kitchen on a lower floor.
Then came the Corona Virus, so the project was put on hold yet again.
When we were finally able to resume, we were dealing with the social unrest, rioting and curfews it necessitated.
And then, a month ago, when we thought we were in the home stretch, my sweet little mama fell and broke 3 ribs. She was hospitalized for several days and largely bedridden for a couple of weeks.
If the fates could have thrown any more obstacles in Oren's path to completing this job, I can't imagine what they could have been. I'm sure our job has been a giant pain in the neck for Oren, but you would never have known it from the attitude and integrity he displayed in every encounter we had with him.
I can't imagine having gone through this with a greater partner than Oren. I must confess that I am really patting myself on the back for being such a great judge of character in having selected Oren to be our contractor (after having met with and considered several others). Although he has an impressive portfolio of new constructions and remodels, I must admit, I went largely with my gut, based almost solely on my evaluation the he was not only kind, but also competent. Confident, but not arrogant. That evaluation proved correct. He never over-promised, and dealt efficiently with this most difficult and problematic job.
If you have need of a contractor, you couldn't possibly do better than to hire Oren. He is simply the best! From beginning to end, I do not have a single complaint. Who can say that about their contractor, even in the best of circumstances?
Well done me, for being smart enough to hire him from the start. I have every confidence that if you do likewise, you will not be disappointed! read more
