Chachapas were delish. Arepas, I am indifferent, perhaps I'm just not used to them. It was still tasty. The sauces provided were great. Next time I go, I'll probably try some empanadas and a different chachapa. I should not have ordered two things. Each thing is very filling. Lotta space in this restaurant. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking on the side. We ordered the yucca fritas n Maduros. Came w 4 diff sauces - spicy hot, garlic aioli, cilantro yoghurt n another one. Got the tuna arepa, breakfast arepa w bacon and the cachapa breakfast. Generous portions n they were all delicious . Not a morsel left. Topped of off w torts tres leche cake. Enough for 3 to share. I've been a long fan of Oh Corn Arepas as I used to patronize this place when they were located in Clifton Park. They are a bit of a drive now but I happened to be in the area and stopped in for a fast snack to go. They are by the Hudson and it's really nice and scenic. I'm sure they will be busier as we head into warmer weather. The restaurant is adorable from the outside and welcoming as you step in. They also have a few tables set up outside and it's just too cute. My chicken empanada and tostones (savory fried bananas) with dipping sauce was very tasty and really hit the spot. Stopped here randomly on my drive home from Vermont. I got the pabellon criollo - a traditional Venezuelan dish of shredded beef, black beans, sweet plantains, white rice and a fried egg on top and tres leches cake to go. Food was fantastic, wish the egg was a little more runny but that's not picking. Ate my tres leches cake when I got home and it was just what I needed after the long drive. I was in Troy on a business trip and met my cousin for dinner. We ended up trying this restaurant, more on accident than intentionally. I am so glad we did! I ordered the Christmas special dish, that included Venezuelan tamal, pulled pork, Jamón pan and traditional salad. It was delicious! I especially enjoyed the Hallaca, Venezuelan tamal. My wife and I travelled to Troy yesterday to try this place out, and found the trip was worth it. It was a nice day, so we sat outside on the patio near the river. I had the chicken arepa (with bacon added) and she had the arroz con pollo. Both were excellent, tasty and filled with lots of nice chicken. The owner waited on us, and he was quite friendly, making this a nice experience. I am gluten free for medical reasons, and this place offers a lot of gluten free options, including a nice GF Spanish beer. I would definitely go again. read more

Tough one for me to judge, because I like trying different foods and I had a friend to bounce ideas off of and get his thoughts. I'll lay it all out and rate it once my writing's complete. So, how our lunch went: Walked in, we were greeted quickly and then I wanted to take a quick look at the specials, only to see everyone had disappeared. I guessed correctly that we went upstairs. There ARE a couple of downstairs tables, which is critical for the movement impaired, but most of y'all will need to expect a climb. Food ain't cheap. I went in not very hungry and so only got a single arepa (the traditional chicken/avocado). My friend got two. The arepas aren't huge, and all of the side dishes are rather expensive, so we stayed with the arepas. I did ask about a couple of side dishes, but was told they were not traditional. (The fried cheese sticks are just mozzarella, for example.) In fact, all of the cheese is American. Most of the food doesn't seem very authentic. I'll say the arepa itself, that nice baked corn outside, is just right in every way. The pocket was filled pretty well with food, so it wasn't a terrible deal overall. The waitress brought over some sauces for me to add heat to my liking, and I did like the heat. Overall: I've been on the fence for this whole review. In the end, having to write about the lack of authenticity, coupled with the high prices, doomed this place to 3 stars instead of 4. Oh, and the walk upstairs. This is not stated on the menu or posted anywhere around in house dining tables. Bring cash, save a few bucks. We had the platters, Pabellon Criollo and Arroz con pollo. Both flavorful. Pabellon Criollo comes with shredded beef, rice, caramelized plantains, and black beans for $16.95. A little pricey, in my opinion, but delicious. The Arroz con pollo was flavorful and delicious. Other than the rice/chicken blend it came with a couple of caramelized plantains (which were delicious). The Arroz con pollo at (14.99) should include a side portion of their tasty black beans to justify the price. In order to get a small side of black beans its was $6.50, although tasty, it was a but high in my opinion. We shared a natural fresh juice, with a blend of three juices. It was delicious and fresh ($7). With tax and tip, we paid $72. The setting is beautiful as it is in the form River Street Cafe location and the upstairs seating overlooks the hudson river. Its a beautiful location and vibe. They are waiting for their liquor license and have live music in Friday and Saturdays for added bonus. Definitely worth a visit! They have a great outside patio overlooking the Hudson River and a beautiful/spacious dining room upstairs that also overlooks the River. Our server was friendly and very helpful navigating the menu and our son's food allergies. We tried the brown cane lemonade - super flavorful and not too sweet at all. For apps we tried the tequenos and empanada - the crusts were fluffy and delicious and pair very well with the various sauces they supply at the table. I finally made it to Oh Corn Arepas and More today -- a day that I knew Arepas would not work well for me. (I'd had a piece of pastry for breakfast!). Luckily, they had three entree-style plated options, and I chose arroz con pollo. It was very tasty and abundant. All the ingredients were cut small enough to hold together in the rice, so you could get an assortment of flavors and textures on your fork at the same time. It came with sweet plantains and a garnish of raw sweet red pepper. On the table were four dressings/sauces in bottles: a sort of ketchup, a sort of hot sauce, a sort of creamy garlic, and a green, maybe cilantro, cream. I used a little of that to add an extra burst of flavor to the fresh-tasting hearty meal. The menu had 4 (I think) beautifully tempting desserts, but I was way too full and not decadent enough to eat dessert twice in one day. The place is tiny and lovely. Real wood decor, simple art. Three indoor 4 top wooden tables and 2 or three outdoor table. The ladies room was clean and is spacious and pretty. I was sad that at 12:30 on a Wednesday, it was not filled with business people lunching, but I did notice activity that looked like deliveries being addressed. Try it out. read more

The owners are Belkis Castro & Jose Theoktisto. We were greeted and served by Belkis herselfThis is a two story dining place with a patio on ground level facing the riverwalk. Note: they serve authentic Venezuelan food. Their arepas are slightly different from the Columbian style like mozzarepas. They serve a variety of handhelds and dinners featuring the star of the show - the "100% white corn bread Venezuelan pocket sandwich". We had the Perico Arepas - scrambled eggs w/ sofrito veggies ($12.50), and one w/ black beans (caraotas) ($13.75). Served with 4 choices of sauce from mild to hot and the crispiest plantain chips we ever head. We should have asked to purchase a bag of the chips for munching on our next stop to the Troy Farmers Market (could be another review). They also offer tostones (fried slices of fresh plantains), empanadas, cachapas (sweet yellow corn pancakes), & patacones (green plantain sandwiches). Lots of foods to explore here on future visits. Hours: Tue-Sat 9am-9pm, Sun 10am-3pm. Plenty of free public parking on evenings & weekends. Terrific Venezuelan food. We tried arepas, tequenos, empanadas, fresh fruit juice and tres leches. The menu items are pretty much all customizable. We got our arepas with cheese. The service was wonderful, our waitress walked us through the menu after we sat down. I am gluten free and she took my taquenos back because they made them in the blended fryer. She has a dedicated fryer for corn only that is gluten free. Almost every item on the menu, save the flour taquenos and a few desserts, is gluten free. In addition, the upstairs seating overlooked the river and was spacious and well laid out. Highly recommend this for those visiting the area. We were having a late lunch after visiting RPI. Parking was easy in the lot next door and this was the perfect spot for teens and adults. While walking to our car to drive to get lunch the smell from this restaurant drew us in. The hostess was extremely nice and showed us that we could eat outside or inside upstairs. We chose inside because it was very hot but outside looks very nice. All the tables have umbrellas. The waitress came over right away to get our drink order. I got the pineapple juice it was freshly squeezed and refreshing. I ordered the arroz con pollo, my friend got the pabellon and my sister got the green queen (not on the regular menu it's online) with a side of rice and beans. The food didn't take long to come out. My friend saying omg after every bite of his pabellon so he liked it lol. The arroz con pollo didn't taste bad but the rice was mushy and the chicken was a mix of dark/white meat so I didn't like it. My sister said her food was bland so she'd order something else as well. I am gluten free and my sister is vegan so the multiple options for food was nice. One thing I wish they'd do is update the paper menu in the restaurant with what they have online. Would come back but try other items. read more

My first visit to this area of Troy seemed a little daunting for me at first, as it was kind of busy this end of April Saturday weekend. I managed to find a spot in back of the riverfront cafe area. I was glad it was Saturday and a little rainy, as it increased my quick parking chances. It borders an area where you can overlook the Hudson River I ordered online and picked up a one size small Arroz con polo and Tiramisu. The Arroz con polo, a mixture of yellow rice, shredded chicken, beans, peas, a ring of red pepper with four plantains was ok and flavorful. Not really sure if it deserved the 14.99 cost and it nothing special to write home about, but it was ok for takeout, nonetheless. The tiramisu, an Italian coffee cream layered desert was the highlight though, balancing a smooth creamy flavored cocoa and mascarpone cream layered desert, which was done perfectly. I might be back, although I will select another meal without peas or corn because of the triglycerides I am trying to keep low. read more

So cute! And the food was so good! It had a very homey feel to it and the food was definitely comforting on a winter night. Two-story sit-down restaurant with lovely ambiance, seating and decorations and a view of the river! The food was wonderful, we had the King Arepa and the Queen Cachapa with Arepitas Fritas as an appetizer that comes with all the sauces. My favorite was the avocado, cilantro sauce, which fit the flavor palette very well. The King was an arepa cut in half, holding shredded beef and black bean mix with fried plantains, created a nice flavorful adventure of sweet, savory, and salty. We also got the sour sop and guava fruit juices and they were divine! The server told us that everything was made FROM SCRATCH right in the restaurant (which you can watch from the outside, as there is a large window looking into the kitchen area from the street) and that really came through in the fruit juices: very fresh, holding the original consistency of the fruit, and with no added sugars. Very good. The server was also very hospitable and amicable. The only thing that upset me was the lack of people eating here. Although they have only been open for a month, this really is a place I expect to see bustling. read more
