Hunger, empty cupboards and no energy to grocery shop led me out on the hunt for a quick bite this…read moreevening.
Driving up Innisfil Beach Rd, himming and hawwing at each open place, I finally decided to rest on something familiar... Not strictly on familiarity, but the hungry bear within just about had it with my indecisiveness.
WILD WING, franchise or not, it would have something to satisfy the rumble.
Wild Wing is your typical sports bar, the walls near the bar covered with TV's playing the current sporting event and in the corner, a counter, counting down to the Leaf's next game. Posters displaying every day of the week specials.
The theme is western with a lot of wooden accents but no place to tie up the horse outside (now THAT would give this place 5 stars based on the coolness factor alone!)
Skimming through the menu, there was an abundance of deep fried appys, many burger options with cute nicknames. On the back of the menu, a whole page dedicated to WILD WINGS, even has a legend for each wing's heat factor.
I was surprised to see a section WILD FRIES, 15 different varieties and as tempted as I was to order the large Dirty Cowboy (aka Poutine), I settled on something slightly less deep fried, the Sloppy Taco with a side of sweet potato fries.
Served in a basket, my two tacos (soft corn tortilla loaded with warm chili, lettuce, tomaters and cheese) partnered with sweet shoestring fries. Included was sour cream for your tacos and golden mustard dipping sauce for the fries.
I love sweet potato fries but enjoy them more when they are steak-like not shoestring. They were slightly cooled but tasty to my ailing palate. The tacos, in their simplicity, made me feel like I was home eating mamma's homestyle chili in a fancy taco wrapped way. It didn't WOW me in any way but gave me a warm feeling inside. The juicy tomatoes and crisp lettuce was a healthy touch. :)
I only ate 1/2 the fries (hence keeping things "slightly deep fried")
I decided I could have dessert and chose the Black and White, a chocolate molten lava cake with white melted chocolate oozing out after cutting into it with a fork. Drizzled on top was chocolate and raspberry sauce, with a side of whip topped with a cherry. :) It was warm and chocolatey gooey satisfaction, but I think it could have benefited from a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.
Overall I would probably give it 3 stars as A-OK, but it gets full 4 star status this evening due to the service. My waitress was very attentive and not overly intrusive and very sweet with her "Hun's and Darlin's", making easy small talk with several other customers. Just made for a better southwestern experience in the snowy small town of Innisfil, 80km North of Toronto.
