For the guests who arrived from out of town the night before the big event, we planned a dinner at the Offshore Ale Co. There were 11 of us, so we were crammed together around 3 small round tables. We made it work, but it was tight. We grabbed some peanuts from the barrel by the door and started cracking! Throwing the shells on the ground was fun, until I almost slipped on my way to the bathroom. I'll have to remember to shuffle my feet next time! We ordered a hummus plate for the table. I've never seen such a huge platter of hummus in my life. It has a nice lemony tang to it and the kalamata olives were delicious. It was served with some crispy flat bread. We ran out of bread, but still had 1/2 a plate of hummus left. The waiter brought out some more flatbread, but I didn't see how much he charged for it. Several people split a few bottles of wine, others tried the beers. I was the only one who had something non-alcoholic. I had to ask for refills. Bad. I asked our waiter about the meatloaf. He said it was quite good. I Iiked the idea of it being cooked with bacon around it. He lied. When I was a kid, my dad used to heat up TV dinners for us because my mother worked evening shifts at the Emergency Room at St. Therese in Chicago. He used to always give me the salisbury steak. I used to think it was fine dining. The meatloaf was on that level. It had a bizarre texture to it and the bacon was not a flavor enhancer. (It was so burnt on the top that I thought it was carmelized tomato sauce. The mashed potatoes were good, though. I enjoyed the broccoli, too. I should have ordered the Portuguese Fisherman's stew. Wow, I've really been slacking in my reviews. We spent a day on the Vineyard about a month-and-a-half ago, and ended up eating lunch at the Offshore Ale Co. I had done some restaurant research prior to the trip, so Offshore was on my list as a place to try. We found it using the GPS on my phone - it's up a little side street and I don't think we would have stumbled upon it. We walked in and they were busy, but there were some open tables. It took about 10-15 minutes before we were actually seated (on the cute little patio). We helped ourselves to the free peanuts, but couldn't find a bowl for them, so my husband ended up coming out with handfuls. Our waiter was definitely overworked, but still enthusiastic and friendly. He was pretty new but tried to be helpful. I asked what veggies were in the veggie wrap, but he wasn't sure. I went with it and although it was tasty, I was disappointed that the menu (which is not online, sadly) did not mention anything about hummus!! Luckily, I love hummus because there was a LOT of it. I can't remember what my husband got (I think a club sandwich?) but we both enjoyed our meals and really liked the homemade chips. Overall, it wasn't the best meal I've ever had, but it was pleasant. Came here for lunch and the staff were all nice. It was slightly hard though to get our waitress's attention. I ordered the Pepperoni Pizza and my dad ordered a burger. My dad said the burger was just okay (it looked like an average burger to me) and as for me I actually liked the pizza. Insanely popular! They make their own beer! The fireman ordered the blueberry and said it was quite tasty. They serve you peanuts you can toss on the floor. Their menu is wide ranging from pizza to ribs. We went for the Alfredo sausage pizza. They have their own stone oven. The pizza had great flavor but was soft everywhere but the crust. This is just the kind of place you come to, to wind down after a long, eventful day on the island. They have a whole barrel of unlimited peanuts to munch on while you kick it back with any one of their refreshing beers. On Monday of this past gorgeous Labor Day weekend, we were still able to take advantage of their outdoor seating which was great. We ordered 8 oysters, a bowl of their clam chowder and an order of their parmesan truffle fries. The oysters were decent.. they had two local kinds (Katama Bay and Sweetneck). The clam chowder was thick and chunky, just the way I like it! Every spoonful had hearty potatoes and big pieces of clam. The order of the truffle fries were tasty as well, but a bit much for just the two of us. As for the beers.. we drowned ourselves with pale ales and hefeweizens! I ordered an open faced reuben sandwich, it was done really well. The corned beef was excellent, the home made chips that came with it was good. My husband ordered a pizza it was a good pizza. So there is nothing to really complain about but there was nothing to rave about either. Food was good, service was good, beer was good. It truly was A-ok. Good beer selection. Their clam chowder was pretty good, especially on a chilly day. Gets pretty busy at night and there isn't a great amount of seating. Only wanted to sit at the bar and have a few drinks but couldn't because it was all filled up and there weren't any high tops available unless you were ordering food. There is seating outside but the hostess asked us not to sit at the tables unless we planned on ordering, so we had to stand outside with our drinks. If you are sitting inside you are offered peanuts that you can throw on the ground- but if you sit outside (or stand) don't throw your peanuts on the ground. We had a very good meal at the Offshore Ale Co. this place is super popular and not too big, so plan to wait if you get there around prime time. We waited approx 45 mins to be seated, but they use a great system so you can walk around and get a text when your table is ready. We were able to do some window shopping and hit a few stores to pass the time. Once seated, you're given a bowl of peanuts to enjoy, with the expectation that you throw the shells straight on the floor. This is really neat, but took us some getting used to! The menu was pretty big and had lots to choose from. Hubby got fresh Honeysuckle oysters and a lobster roll. The oysters were good, but the lobster roll needed some "love"... just a bit of salt and pepper or some additional seasonings would have made it better. I was in dire need of a good healthy salad, of which they had plenty to choose from. We ordered the power bowl salad for an appetizer and I had the steak skewers for dinner. Both were absolutely delicious. The salad was so good I plan to make it at home! The steak was well marinated and glazed, giving it excellent flavor. Overall the service was pretty good. The servers seems super happy, singing as they delivered food to tables. We got a kick out of that. Only 2 service complaints... the server apparently didn't think to bring our salad out before entrees. We were waiting for 30+ mins for the salad, before realizing that she probably wanted to bring it out at the same time as our entrees. I had to get her attention, which was not super easy in a loud and busy place and ask for the salad... which was sitting in the back ready and waiting to be picked up. I'm glad we did ask for it because it held us over for another 15 minutes before dinner arrived. The only other complaint was that the management was eager to turn tables (completely understood) and stood right next to our table yelling at staff to get a particular family out of the restaurant. It made us a little uncomfortable, especially since that family had a newborn and a toddler, which can't be easy when out to eat. Overall we enjoyed our meal, and the brick oven pizza looked so divine we ordered it for takeout the next night. Was incredible. Offshore Ale is a solid MV restaurant and we hope to return. All I can say is OMG!!!!! 10/10 beer 20/10 food! We started our meal with a saison and ipa. I particularly liked their saison because it was filled with flavor but not too strong or hoppy so it was easy to drink and great to taste. We ordered their grilled brie expecting a basic cheese and bread plate but we were pleasantly surprised at what arrived to the table. The Brie was topped with pesto sauce and plated with a plethora of garlic and freshly made bread. I need to mostly highlight the garlic cloves on this plate. They make their own garlic olive oil in house by simmering the garlic in olive oil for hours. That allows the oil to be infused with garlic and then makes the garlic cloves when removed from the oil soft and delicate and spreadable like butter. It was truly amazing to taste this spread with the Brie. To top it all off, they use the homage garlic olive oil on the pizza we ordered (sausage and Alfredo). Great find for us!
