DON'T GO TO OFFICE DEPOT FOR PHONE REPAIR!
I was shocked at my treatment today. I went to the American Fork store last week to inquire about their cell screen repair service. I spoke to the assistant manager who told me my iPhone 7 repair would be around $100 and then he gave me a 25% off coupon and told me it would take 30 minutes tops. I was thrilled because everywhere else I looked it was well over $115. I scheduled my appt and went on my way. I went in this morning at 10:00am for my appt. Was told it was now $120 even with the 25% off. When I asked why, I was told "Well, prices haven't gone up in a week. I don't know why you were told $100, but it's definitely $120." I thought, well, okay, I am here so let's just do it. I was told it would take less than 30 minutes. 1.5 hours later (after I had inquired twice about what was taking so long) the tech came back and said he had bad news. They had tried 2 different screens but they weren't working once they were on my phone. He said I could come back later in the day and they'd have new ones in or they could just refund my money. By this time I had already missed another appt I had and I didn't have time to come back later so I opted for a full refund. So, 1.5 hours later and still had a broken screen. Once I got back to my car I noticed that the home button wasn't working properly. I had other errands to run so I didn't go directly back inside.
About 1.5-2 hours later I went back and asked to speak to the manager. I got the assistant manager, Andrew. He was so nice and so understanding and told me that he'd never seen anything like this before. He asked to see my phone to see if he could fix the problem. I told him I was nervous to hand my phone over since last time I did that it was given back to me faulty. He promised that if they couldn't fix it they would replace my entire phone and if they could they would also repair the screen for free because of the hassle I had already gone though today. I figured I didn't have anything to lose and handed my phone over. Another 1.5 goes by and my phone screen and the home button were fixed! Hallelujah! I went up to the front of the store and the actual manager was helping me at this point. He told me "okay, that'll be $96." I said, "wait, I was told that it was going to be free because of all the hassle?" The manager (he didn't have a name tag on), was so rude and told me they wouldn't give away free product and that they needed to make money." I explained to him what I had been through earlier and that they gave my phone back broken etc. and that Andrew told me it would be free because of my hassle. He told me Andrew shouldn't have said that and that if I want they can put my old broken screen back on and I can just go somewhere else. I was floored. I'm NOT the type of person who ever tries to get out of paying what I owe no matter what, but when I was told something would be free and after I've been at a store for 3 hours now trying to get my phone working again I expected them to live up to their word. I paid the $96 and will NEVER go back to Office Depot again. I realize I am just one person and loosing my business won't matter to them, but I just wanted to let the world know how poorly I was treated and how I was blatantly lied to. I wish I knew how to contact corporate.
