Sadly, this place has gone downhill. The pastrami is not smoked in-house (if you have a smoker and DON'T want to smoke your own pastrami, then nix it from the menu!) and is a shredded salty mess with interlacing shreds of Swiss cheese. The food has always cooled down upon arrival. [We actually like the brown paper bag idea.] "Hot" sandwiches like the pastrami will arrive in a grease-coated mass. The burgers used to be good, and hot. But now, they are a flat, mess...grease-coated in its wrapper. The French fries were laughable, though - no longer do you get a whole fry, but instead, little sections of fries. We're from DC and there's quite a few bbq places that are good. BUT Off the Grid is unbelievable. Maybe the best barbecue brisket our part of 7 have ever had. While vacationing on beach in Cape Cod we went there for dinner. It was closed for a private event but we were able to order and pick up and had a picnic close by. The brisket is beyond compare: juicy not stringy perfectly cut up into little pieces. I think it's a three star bbq in that it's worth a journey. Honestly- it's wicked overhyped. The food was just okay. I got the brisket sandwich and it was greasy and bland. The brisket was decent but not very flavorful. The actual coleslaw had literally zero flavor...added nothing to the sandwich. The grilled pineapple sounded good but tasted like canned pineapple that had no seasoning. The whole thing was just mushy and kinda one note. Worst was the Mac and cheese. Totally mushy over cooked noodles mixed with a shit ton of shredded cheddar. You can see the clumps of cheddar so it looks good but it's very dry and looks like they don't add any milk to make it creamy. Plus it's griddled and topped with mayo- ultra greasy. Service was fine. It was super annoying though that the only menu was a tiny takeout menu taped to the front window. You can't look at the menu until it's your turn to order. An absolute gem! We didn't know what to expect when we pulled in- but this outdoor food/bar garden area is amazing. We came by late in the season, it was cool out but there was a fire going and the atmosphere was awesome. There are several different food trucks, but we both ordered from Off The Grid- I had one of the specials, a lamb and beef gyro, and my boyfriend had the pulled pork with mac and cheese and cornbread. This place is horrible all the way around. We had to walk up a huge gravel hill to get to the food truck picnic area (where you order and eat at a picnic table that is not even). The pulled pork sandwich was tasteless, and the fries were not salted. The hamburgers are only available cooked medium well they tell you. In reality, the burger is ultra well done, and it is covered with the dirty junk that is stuck to their grill from Not Cleaning It! The cheese on the burger was tasteless, and equally over cooked as the burger. With the burger, we asked for coleslaw instead of the fries it usually comes with. The coleslaw was horrible, and they charged us $3.00 for it. The whole 2 sandwich order cost $30.00,and it was not worth ten cents. Stay out of this place! I have eaten at Off The Grid for about 5 years, since their first location in the Sandwich Marina opened. The original food was worthy of a 5 star review and after 5 years of consistently delivering the same 5 star quality they opened with, I've downloaded Yelp with the sole purpose of positively reviewing Off The Grid. I've always stuck to the meat heavy sandwiches that they opened with. I don't love eating messy food in public - I'm a big eater and I make a big mess with saucy or fall apart type finger food so I prefer to eat it in private. However, when I am handed a hot Sloppy Choppy, Pig Lebowski or the fish one (dozens eaten over years as well as the garlic aeoli mac and cheese ("aeoli" is almost certainly spelled wrong but I'm on a roll so let it slide)) I make a mess of myself like a viking who has just stormed an abandoned village and found an abandoned feast. Sometimes I'll get particularly feral and use my hands (ashamedly) to eat the garlic aeoli (just keep going with it) mac and cheese in between brisket, pulled pork or smoked fish bites. Everything I have eaten has always been stellar and fairly priced. Have I stuck to the same five or so menu items over +50 meals instead of exploring their vast menu? Yes. Is it possible that the other items on the menu are less good tasting or less reasonably priced than the 5 or so menu items I have eaten +50 times? Maybe, I guess. Kind of a stupid question when there are 5 or so menu items that are most assuredly worth eating +50 times. Kind of a really stupid question if you ask me. And I'm not a guy who asks stupid questions. I'm a guy who eats Off The Grid. Very good food with a very happy and multifaceted ambiance. Family friendly since day one. Now 21+ friendly with a bar. Now non-meat loving friendly with non-meat options in pizza and (maybe) Poke Bowls(?). I love the fact that they have a bar attached now. My family loves the pizzas and burritos. This customer minded experience is the kind that you would be happy to see corporatized and taking over our corner of the country. If the apocalypse hits, I'm going to Off The Grid as our final sun sets. Anyways. It's getting late. I can't think of anywhere else that has delivered such high quality in long term consistency as Off The Grid but when I do, I'll redownload this app and give them my praises as well. read more

It sure was a large portion of fries, a FEW cheese curds, a sprinkle of beef brisket and a cup of gravy. I guess I was hoping for at least a larger portion of beef brisket since this was a BBQ place. It's like awesome food truck/ meets deadheads/ meets brick oven pizza while chilling with friends at a backyard barbecue. You order your bbq from the bus & drinks and/or your personalized brick oven pizza from the bartender, then find a picnic table. When your food is ready, it is brought out for you. Be sure to listen for your name being called! There was a GREAT 3 piece band playing cool music from 60's classics to Blind Melon & all points in between! We ordered 1/2 rack of ribs, & mixed grill (wings, pulled pork & brisket) with cole slaw. The food was delicious, the service was inviting, cool & friendly with very reasonable prices! My family and I went to eat here this evening. It was an on and off rainy day and the fryers were broken so no wings or fries. I ordered the brisket burger. A picture will be shown for reference. It cost $12 and was worth the price. It was a nicely cooked burger and brisket. However, the coleslaw on the burger didn't have enough flavor. We also got the full stack of ribs. They were nicely seasoned and smokey, but the meat didn't even come close to falling off the bone. I would expect more from the smoked ribs. The $26 ribs combo came with 2 sides. We chose Mac and cheese with truffle aioli and the coleslaw. The Mac and cheese was good but it was a really small portion. The coleslaw side was a better portion but was just not good. We may come back for another shot to try the wings and fries when the fryers start working again. read more

Great spot! I got the Mac Daddy burger, 5 wings, and a side of fries to go (cause I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it all! The fries while plain, had a good texture just slightly crispy on the outside and soft insides! The wings had a good bbq sauce and flavor to them and were perfectly tender. The Mac Daddy burger was the real star of the show. Burger patty was cooked perfectly, and the combination of the thick cut bacon and creamy cheesy mac n cheese on top was a greater flavor and texture sensation. Highly recommend. My husband and I stopped here for lunch on the way to our cottage rental on a Sunday. It was set up well for Covid conscious people. After ordering you choose from several table on the lawn or patio. They were all spaced out more than 6'. They had music playing and an open bar to buy canned alcohol beverages and a couple of beers on tap. I had the fishizzle any my husband had the Brisket Burger. We got a side of fries and the corn and bean salad. We weren't able to finish either side and I left about 25% of my sandwich, finishing the fish and not all the yummy brioche bun. They had a nice outdoor hand waving station which I appreciated after eating a fish sandwich. There's also a little ice cream place on premise, I was shocked that my husband was too full to get his usual ice cream. The portions were obviously good! read more
