I love this little shop…read more The staff are super friendly and helpful. One of my favourite things here are the potato volcanos!! It is a bacon wrapped baked potato with some cheese topping. Next on my "go to" list is the Guiness Steak pies. So easy to make and very flavourful. They also have chicken pot pies, steak and kidney pies and a few others. If you have a dog, well they have very nice bone marrow bones for your fur baby. Just pop in and see what may appeal to you. As I said, the staff is very helpful here.

These people have very questionable business practices. I just read a review that accused them of…read moremisusing copyrighted material on their website. I was in there at the beginning of the month and I purchased some steaks, a haggis and some other items. I called them back to order a 5 pound haggis. They were unable to get what I wanted and when I reminded them of our previous conversations where I told them that five individual haggis's were not acceptable because I needed a single haggis as a part of a Funeral ceremony they simply pulled up my past sale data and used the credit card information to process an unauthorized transaction?? Who does that? My family is trying to get ready for my Mother's Funeral this Saturday. I have no haggis, and a charge on my card. So on top of all of the arrangements that I've been dealing with this week I had to reach out to MasterCard and cancel my card for fear of further unauthorized transactions. Stealing people's copyrighted material is completely disrespectful, however putting through unauthorized charges while a family is trying to get ready for a funeral is despicable. As a consumer please keep in mind If a merchant tries to push a charge through just because they have your card on file from the past, but there was no new agreement or order, it's not valid, and you're absolutely within your rights to dispute the charge and demand a reversal. My advice...pay cash if you are shopping at The Meat Merchant but honestly the steaks at Costco are better and cheaper, and if you need haggis go to McComish's Wee British Shoppe in Orillia. The owner is an absolutely lovely chap and his steak and kidney pie is absolutely the best that I have had this side of the pond.

The "daily hot sandwiches" sign stopped me right in my tracks. I have never been able to resist a…read moregood sandwich advertisement, which was definitely hot. The fact that the shop is not a restaurant made it so that the fried chicken went from the fryer to my mouth in about 30 seconds. It might've been the juiciest and freshest chicken sandwich I have ever had. Ordered the fried pickles as well. I will not lie; I might've needed a little help with them, but it was still such a fun snack to have on the side. Food aside, there are very few homey / neighborhood / independent butcher shops like it left in the city, and I hope more people give it a chance.

With old-world Italian vibes, the service is top-notch. The meat too. I especially like their sausages, which are quite affordable for the large portions. They also have a ton of dry goods and pantry items so it's more than just a carnivore's paradise. If you're looking for a shop that has everything you need for the perfect summer BBQ, this place is it.

They have an easy to understand price list right on the front page of their website. When they let you know our order is ready you simply go over to the shop and someone comes to the door to ask your name. You can do a tap payment through the window (they bring the machine to the window) and then the hand you your bag of goodies. We ordered a delicious bone-in rib steak. It was so juicy and delicious (and huge!). It came in vacuum sealed packaging for easy storage in the fridge or freezer, but we devoured it the same day. Our dog got a nice delicious bone for an after dinner treat as well.

This place is awesome!…read more We happened to stumble in on a little walk through our neighbourhood. This is a gorgeous shop, filled with interesting, local, and unique food products. They also have various deli meats, cheeses, milk, and butter. Their freezers are stocked with various pre-made meals which look very tasty and worth trying on a busy night. Ended up leaving with three awesome sauces, one flattened whole Piri Piri chicken and a hot sausage. Cheryl was helping us today and she was just lovely! We can't wait to go back and try all of the delcious looking meats!!

Note: This 2 star rating is only for the lunch sandwiches…read more Based on other reviews I've read, it seems the take-out meat in this place is really good. Maybe I should have gotten that instead because, sad to say, this wasn't the case for their lunch sandwiches. We got: - Steak sandwich: Good amount of steak but it was a bit tough to chew, and the barbeque sauce had a good smoky flavour but it was cold (which was a bit weird) - Chicken sandwich: The chicken was dry and the aioli sauce didn't have as much kick as I wanted, but the bacon was outstanding (great flavour and perfect crisp to it) Overall, the Friendly Butcher lunch sandwiches had a generous serving of meat, but the meat itself (save for the bacon) wasn't that good in terms of flavour and cook. When we were there, many people were getting meat to go, and most of them seemed like regulars, so maybe the Friendly Butcher really does have good meat - who knows? It definitely just doesn't translate to their lunch sandwiches. Hard pass next time I'm in the area and want a quick bite.

I was excited that Markham has a new butcher shop but was disappointed when I walked in…read more There was very little meat on display and the prices were not posted. The small store had a fresh tray of fresh sausages and said they had more meat in the back. They had a fridge of drinks and some kitchen supplies. On the positive note, the owner said that they will price match any advertised meat in the city. They can order and get the cut of meat that a customer is looking for. They said they guarantee the meat source to be high quality and reputable. I ordered a beef brisket from them that arrived the next day. The owner only brought one into his store, and said we didn't have to take it. We bought it anyway and enjoyed the quality of the meat that we bought.. I don't know how the business can sustain if the butcher doesn't bring more meat in, particularly if customers want something on-the-go. Hopefully things will improve. It's a good place if you want to place an order for something in particular and get a great price on it, or don't mind buying what the store happens to have in stock. My rating will improve as the owner works out the kinks of the business.

For the money they charge, you'd expect the best steak you've ever had, but not only were the steaks no good, they were bad. The striploin was either aged too long, or had begun to turn.
