Note: This 2 star rating is only for the lunch sandwiches. Based on other reviews I've read, it seems the take-out meat in this place is really good. Maybe I should have gotten that instead because, sad to say, this wasn't the case for their lunch sandwiches. We got: - Steak sandwich: Good amount of steak but it was a bit tough to chew, and the barbeque sauce had a good smoky flavour but it was cold (which was a bit weird) - Chicken sandwich: The chicken was dry and the aioli sauce didn't have as much kick as I wanted, but the bacon was outstanding (great flavour and perfect crisp to it) Overall, the Friendly Butcher lunch sandwiches had a generous serving of meat, but the meat itself (save for the bacon) wasn't that good in terms of flavour and cook. When we were there, many people were getting meat to go, and most of them seemed like regulars, so maybe the Friendly Butcher really does have good meat - who knows? It definitely just doesn't translate to their lunch sandwiches. Hard pass next time I'm in the area and want a quick bite. read more

Yes, it's currently not mandatory courtesy of a political decision that's not supported by The Ontario Science Advisory Table, but it would be better if they cared about their customers and workforce. As if I needed another reason to love Yelp, I discovered here that my local butcher shop also makes lunch sandwiches. Since I live with a man for whom the Art of the Sandwich is a religion we immediately ran out the door to check the place out. The Friendly Butcher isn't just a name, it's a fact. Everybody in there is smiling, friendly and banters with customers. As Andrew A. says, the sandwiches are built around outstanding meat. The steak sandwich is a steak, cooked up after you place your order. No lousy strips of pre-cooked steak here! Turkey and roast beef are shaved fresh and deliciously juicy. Your sandwich is built on your choice of several breads or buns, including a multigrain that -- unlike some that I choke down to feel virtuous -- actually tastes great. Toppings are pretty standard, and even with my minimalist approach (cheese and BBQ sauce) you've still got a filling lunch. My one complaint is that on Saturday they may be out of some bread types and toppings. I can't bring myself to downrate a star for it, though, since whatever you opt for as your second choice is still awesome. (But feel free to skip hot peppers so there's some left for me.) read more

We have bought meat from the Friendly Butcher for years. It is a neighbourhood business and we generally find the quality of their meat to be superior. However, today I had a serious problem and I want everyone to understand how serious a problem I find this to be. When COVID hit, Ken did a lovely job of switching to online ordering and curbside delivery. It meant we could still have his great meat without the risks. Now the store is open again, as permitted. However, there is a requirement that masks be worn by both staff and customers while indoors. I stopped in the store today to buy meat for tonight's dinner. I put on my mask and entered the store. There were 6 people in the store but only 2, including me had masks on. One woman looked like she was stocking goods. She moved all over the store and outside to get things. She touched a good many products in the store and she had no mask. During the time I was there, 2 other people came up from downstairs. Neither of them had masks on although one covered his nose and mouth to move through the store. An acknowledgement of the current requirements. I will not be returning ot this store until COVID is clear, if ever. This is a blatant disregard for customers and seems highly inconsistent with the way this business presents itself. read more

We keep coming back here because it's great, everyone loves it. The meat they grill is fresh, juicy and tasty and the price is just $10 (we call them the HST-free Butcher as a pun on their name). The Korean Steak sandwich I had this time was juicy and tender - and it was covered in a marinade/sauce that you would expect spicy pork to be covered in at a Korean restaurant - it was great. Topped with a handful of onions and a lot of Sriracha Mayo, it was enjoyable from the very first to the last bite - and they don't skimp on the amount of steak! The "mac burger" was pretty normal, it was not as juicy as it probably could be so I recommend making up for it with additional garlic ailoi, sriracha mayo, "mac sauce" or whatever sauces they have on that day. It appears you can even ask for variations, I noted one other customer walking away with what appeared to be a Korean Steak salad topped with sauce (?). They still don't know their WiFi password, so it is hard to play Pokemon Go here. The Starbucks WiFi is intermittently in range. read more

Ahhh the friendly butcher. Where to start. As a butcher shop, the proprietor of this shop (who is overly friendly) provides a wide array of meat (mostly locally grown in ontario). Although the prices are a bit high, the quality is nearly un matched (think cumbraes,pusateris,etc). I wholeheartedly implore you to drive there immediately, and treat yourself to a nice big provimi veal, it is incredibly expensive but so damn good you will curse every steak you ever tasted. Well thats all good and dandy but the reason I visit the friendly butcher is because of their sandwich counter. Daily, they cook up a huge roast beef,chicken, and fresh steak sandwiches for under $7 (thats right). They can make you any deli sandwich you want, but I implore you once again to feast on a roast beef or steak sandwich (he cooks the steak fresh right there in front of your eyes). The bread is always fresh (ace bread bought that morning) and he provides all the meaningful condiments (as well as a very nice spicy chipotle aoili). If you are in the area, you cant get a better lunch for that price that quick, and since my office is down the street, i find myself there quite often. This place really lives up to its name. I was in here a very months ago to buy steak for a special occasion. The woman behind the counter wad very helpful, she helped me select a great steak and even get it a nice Spice rub. It was the best steak I have ever cooked for myself. I buy fresh meat here and the service is always friendly. Its okay for the price and I been there several times however now looking for better options. The meat is not always consistently tasty, for me, if you are charging Cumbraes prices you need Cumbraes quality. read more

This place is great. Everything is fresh and tastes great and the staff are friendly and helpful. I stopped in today for some mild sausage, which were fantastic. The ready made lunch items are fabulous too. The chicken egg rolls are excellent. Also the pulled pork sandwiches. You can basically avoid the grocery store by stopping in here and have a complete fresh and healthy dinner, including dessert! read more

We don't live in the area but we go to the vet clinic across the street. Every time, we would pick up whatever they recommend that day and it never disappoints. We recently got some garlic herb marinated chops for the grill and they were amazing. It's pricier than supermarkets but on par with its peers like Cumbraes etc. We try to buy only humane naturally raised meats and if it means I eat less of it because of the price then so be it. The slightly higher price for the quality that places like this offers (and awesome service and knowledge) is worth it. read more

The staff and owners at The Friendly Butcher are wonderful--kind, courteous, so helpful. They bend over backwards to have my order ready for when I arrive and it is prepared exactly as I requested: Vacuum sealed, cut up in just the right number of pieces, etc. Their meat and chickens, sourced fresh from local farms are of exceptional quality. This butcher shop stands way above most in the city so much so that I would rate it superior to its more expensive counterpart on Eglinton. read more
