This place is slightly hard to find. It's located in a dogey plaza in the east end of Markham. I…read moreonly found out of this place through a friend because she brought in some really tasty meats for our last BBQ. I don't think I would have ever stepped into this place otherwise. Once you enter in, someone greets you and asks you what you want. Everything is pre-bagged so you just tick off which meats you want and they pull it out of the tray or fridge for you. I ordered a bag of kalbi ribs, two bags of chicken thighs in different flavours. I don't find the kalbi really tasty for some reason. Maybe the marinade is too light but I wasn't a fan of the texture of the meat either. The chicken thighs on the other hand kicked it out of the ball park. The curry one is soooo juicy and delicious and I love the flavours. Prices are pretty good too. I can't remember exactly how much it was but I think the 3 bags were under $30 and they were more than enough to feed a family of 6.

Tried this place once to get meat for bbq and got the beef short ribs, lemongrass chicken, squid,…read moreand chicken wings. Everything is marinated beforehand so this would be great if you planned a last minute bbq. I would get everything but the squid again. The squid didn't have any unique flavour to it and was quite bland in my opinion. If you get it I would recommend adding some sauce prior to putting it on the grill. As a side note, the shop's location has changed, which is shown on a notice at the door. They are located at another unit, called Ah Fong, in the same plaza. The plaza itself is super run down but don't judge a book by its cover - the meat here is amazing!

I love this little shop…read more The staff are super friendly and helpful. One of my favourite things here are the potato volcanos!! It is a bacon wrapped baked potato with some cheese topping. Next on my "go to" list is the Guiness Steak pies. So easy to make and very flavourful. They also have chicken pot pies, steak and kidney pies and a few others. If you have a dog, well they have very nice bone marrow bones for your fur baby. Just pop in and see what may appeal to you. As I said, the staff is very helpful here.

These people have very questionable business practices. I just read a review that accused them of…read moremisusing copyrighted material on their website. I was in there at the beginning of the month and I purchased some steaks, a haggis and some other items. I called them back to order a 5 pound haggis. They were unable to get what I wanted and when I reminded them of our previous conversations where I told them that five individual haggis's were not acceptable because I needed a single haggis as a part of a Funeral ceremony they simply pulled up my past sale data and used the credit card information to process an unauthorized transaction?? Who does that? My family is trying to get ready for my Mother's Funeral this Saturday. I have no haggis, and a charge on my card. So on top of all of the arrangements that I've been dealing with this week I had to reach out to MasterCard and cancel my card for fear of further unauthorized transactions. Stealing people's copyrighted material is completely disrespectful, however putting through unauthorized charges while a family is trying to get ready for a funeral is despicable. As a consumer please keep in mind If a merchant tries to push a charge through just because they have your card on file from the past, but there was no new agreement or order, it's not valid, and you're absolutely within your rights to dispute the charge and demand a reversal. My advice...pay cash if you are shopping at The Meat Merchant but honestly the steaks at Costco are better and cheaper, and if you need haggis go to McComish's Wee British Shoppe in Orillia. The owner is an absolutely lovely chap and his steak and kidney pie is absolutely the best that I have had this side of the pond.

Bruno's Signature is still going strong, serving up top notch meats at (sometimes very high)…read moreprices. When I walk into Bruno's, I see a clean and organized deli/butcher, with knowledgeable staff and skilled butchers. Bruno's has an open concept, so you can actually look through a window and watch them chop up your meat. When I walk in, I also see dry-aged prime rib in a special dry-aging compartment. Once I asked about the price, and the reply was, "Do you REALLY want to know??" Ok, fair enough, I was wearing my everyday clothes and probably looked like I couldn't even afford a sausage. I'll get my husband to go in there, on his way home from work, and see if he can buy a single rib Dry Aged Prime Rib for me to prepare for a Mother's Day gift. Meanwhile, I bought something more economical ....but still kind of luxe. I bought an entire striploin on sale. The price was actually only $1 more than No Frills, and I got 12 steaks!! That will certainly last us a while. After laying 3 aside for our evening meal, I tossed the rest in the freezer. That steak is so great, just butter-basted in a skillet with your favourite aromatics. Despite my above anecdote, Bruno's is not a stuck-up or snobby place at all, but just your neighbourhood butcher. And, if you keep an eye on their specials, it is not to pricey at all. However, you can spend a fortune if you aren't aware of reasonable pricing. As grocery store food prices soar upward, Bruno's prices seem to remain relatively static, in a good way, so that it is worth my money to check it out, especially when they have deals or sales. This is your perfect, neighborhood butcher!
