For those who have found this page, note that Of The Earth has another yelp page with a much higher rating and great customer reviews here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/of-the-earth-seattle. --- I just got our wedding invitations from Of The Earth and they are truly amazing -- they look and feel magical...silky outer skin, rough inside because of the seeds and the hand-made feel, perfectly torn edges, and overall just beautiful. This is one of those unusual old-fashioned businesses where when you dial their phone number, they pick up the phone. No robots giving you options to press one or say "representative", I just dialed the phone number and Kevin picked up. He was wonderful to work with on our wedding invitations, advising us on what we needed to create them at home from the already-folded and torn seed paper and twine. They even made us custom paper that only grows blue and dark red flowers, because we're having our wedding guests plant them and then bring them to our wedding. :D As much as I love their old-fashioned phone etiquette, their website is also a bit old-school and could be improved. Of particular note is that Kevin sent me a link to an "estimate" page, where I went, looked at the estimate and then emailed Kevin back to say it looked good. Fortunately I sent him a follow-up email asking when & how to pay, and apparently on the same page there's another link to where you are supposed to pay...not obvious to me, so it could have been days before I checked in with him again to see how my order was going. So if you're in a rush, you should remember this and when you see the "estimate" page look for the payment link to make sure your order goes through. Thanks to Kevin and anyone else at Of The Earth for our gorgeous wedding invitations (my friends will be amazed because I really have no design sense!). And as a bonus, or maybe as a main reason to go here, everything Of The Earth sells is about as eco-friendly as you can possibly get. Bravo. read more

Horrific customer service. Deplorable. I found this company on Etsy, where they sell "flower seed paper." I was stunned to discover the exact same paper on Amazon, in larger quantities, at a cheaper price. I approached Kevin/Lori/"Fiona" about this concern, and they claimed to be the Amazon vendors also. However, I contacted the Amazon vendor, located in a completely different state, and confirmed that they have no affiliation with Of the Earth. Hmmm.... Please be aware that this company greatly overcharges for shipping. I needed two rolls of paper for Christmas wrap, and wanted to support small business. I made it very clear to Kevin/Lori/"Fiona" that I needed them by Christmas. He/she/she strongly encouraged me to pay a whopping $18.50 for expedited shipping for possible delivery before Christmas, making the grand total for two rolls of paper and expedited shipping $44.72, an exorbitant sum that I was willing to pay in a pinch for it to arrive on time. But you guessed it: the paper did not arrive on time. By Christmas (a week later), the tracking number indicated that the item was mysteriously still "on its way" to a USPS facility. We're talking Seattle to San Francisco, so not a great distance. The sellers were extremely apathetic, unapologetic and dispassionate; they claimed that they were unaware that I needed it by Christmas, refused to acknowledge that they had encouraged me to pay extra for expedited shipping, and had no interest in working together to arrive at a resolution. When the item finally arrived (after Christmas), I immediately sent it back, as I no longer needed it. I suggested that it would be fair for us to compromise on shipping costs since they encouraged me to pay the expedited shipping; I would never have purchased the item without their encouragement, yet it still failed to arrive in time. They refused any sort of compromise whatsoever, citing that it "was not [their] fault" that it did not arrive. That is questionable, as I have no proof that they actually shipped it when they said they would - only proof that a shipping label was created - but even more to the point is that it was most certainly not my fault either. It is the seller's responsibility to ensure that the item gets to the customer. Why should the customer be punished? But they did not care, and would not budge. I was far more upset by Kevin/Lori/"Fiona's" attitude than the fact that the products did not arrive on time. Is this company so strapped for cash that they could not spare even a couple of bucks towards shared shipping to keep a customer happy? Even on general principle? That's just the wrong attitude for a small business owner to have. Bad look. I did not resist, but simply requested to see proof that the shipping fees were actually $18.50. No reply. To my third request, they finally responded to say that "we have reached the end of the line - I can't do anything more to assist you." So... there is no proof of the actual shipping fees. Do they buy on Amazon to sell elsewhere for a profit? Are their shipping fees legitimate? Caveat emptor! read more

BAD EXPERIENCE. Let me start out by saying that Of The Earth's products are simply beautiful. We ordered the DIY wedding invitation kits with the seeded paper (paper that is supposed to sprout flowers when planted/watered). The paper is beautiful, although I can't say for certain whether it actually sprouts flowers (yet). The service, however, is entirely different. My fiancee and I live in Cleveland, so we placed our order on their website. Thier website is of similar quality to most small businesses and did not have perfectly clear product descriptions. We placed an order based on our interpretation of the ambiguous product descriptions and got fewer items than we expected. Additionally, some items were completely missing. I reached out to the owner via email (they did not return our calls) to describe the situation. I asked if he agreed that the wording was vague, and he seemed to agree. However, when I asked if he'd be willing to cover the shipping on our second order, he refused. My argument was that if the wording had been clear, then we would not have needed to place two orders. He still refused. I asked if he'd be willing to cover the shipping for returning the products, especially since several items were missing in our shipment. NOPE. On top of this, I felt that Kevin (the owner) was dismissive in his correspondence and during our conversation. BAD EXPERIENCE. read more

I'm a California photographer... I use all kinds of companies for printing. I have a client that wanted a certain vellum printing for their holiday cards. I found "of the earth" on-line and it offered custom vellum printing. The website was a bit confusing for what I needed so I called and spoke to Kevin. I explained what I needed and he let me know what I needed to do was email him the file and specs for the project. At this point I said, great, after I send the email should I expect the proof within an hour or so? He said, no his proof time was 72 hours- This was on Tuesday at 9am. He received my email and wrote back asking for a higher res of the file and then I replied promptly with the file. I then switched the email conversation to questions about price so I could properly charge my client. I let him know I needed a navy color and He let me know the costs and I replied "OK"... I've asked all kinds of business owners, what they thought was left off with the proof after we started talking about price... Each and every business owner, including me the costumer "thought" the proof would still be delivered in the 72 hour time frame quoted per Kevin. On Friday there was no proof. Albeit was thanksgiving day, I took that into consideration and didn't inquire as to where my proof was. I even waited through the weekend and on Monday afternoon asked as I still had not seen anything. On Monday afternoon, Kevin let me know and I quote his email "If you would like to place an order we just need to create your proofing page. Shall we go with the color or black printing?".... I was SHOCKED. He hadn't even started my proofing page after telling me 6 days prior that it would ONLY take 72 hours... not business hours, not 3 business days. I started asking how long this would take for me to get the completed project delivered to me in California. My thinking was at this point... WOW, back to square one??? and I'm under a time-line for getting this done for my client. Kevin let's me know on Tuesday morning that, if I approve and pay for my order he could ship on Thursday and depending on what type of shipping I want to pay for then that will depend on when I receive the order. He then says, he will get me a proof, "later today"... this is one week after I submitted my file for set up and proofing. Being in the situation of under a time strain, I wrote Kevin back and told him that I was disappointed that this had taken so long and I was waiting for a proof to approve and based on his policies figured we'd be much further along with the process than just starting on the proof. I asked that he expedite the production and as well ship the order to me overnight so I received it by Friday. Kevin, refused to do this and the emails turned into phone conversations where Kevin accused me of taking advantage of the company. AGAIN, i was SHOCKED at this level of costumer service. It then gets worse. I asked Kevin to give me the name of his supervisor or the owner, because he said he was getting uncomfortable with the conversation. Kevin, again, refused to help me. We ended the conversation with me saying OK, I'll figure out who the owner is and notify them myself. I guess Kevin thought it was amusing to send me off to find that he was the owner. AGAIN, SHOCKED. He couldn't even stand up as the owner and talk to his customer. Not only was this bad costumer service, this was very stressful for me. His insults continued in emails, attacking my character, stating... Candia, "Clearly you do not have the same desire to live in a polite society but choose to steep yourself in rancor and blame." He asked me a few times not to post this review of our transaction and now clearly you can see why. This is something that happened. I am only stating facts in this review and I ask that if YELP as any credibility, that they do not remove my feedback here if Kevin requests to do so. Thank you! read more

Absolutely stunning work and very kind business owners. My partner and I bought beautiful seed paper for our wedding programs and also used their hand dyed ribbon. Excellent quality product -- their website doesn't do their work justice. Folks are much kinder and the selection of earth-friendly papers/ribbons is much more expansive than anything you'll find at Michael's or Joann's. Definitely come in and visit if you can. read more

I am EXTREMELY excited to post my experience with Of The Earth! My wedding is in August of this year, and I have been trying to find some custom and unique paper to use for our save the dates, invitations, table cards and programs. Using Etsy frequently, I started looking for new paper ideas that we could possibly utilize. I then stumbled upon Of The Earth. Custom. Seed. Paper. WHAT? I am a digital developer, so spending a lot of money on paper that would be thrown out.. the idea really bummed me out. Seeing this paper, that can be planted once done, made my heart happy and I felt that others wouldn't feel that the invites were a waste of paper as well. I contacted the company through Etsy to get a free sample and Kevin answered my request (convo wise) within 24 hours! He was very friendly, prompt and was able to answer any questions I had. Within 2 weeks I had my samples and I was in love. Being neurotic, the color of the sample I received wasn't exactly what I was looking for..NOT THE COMPANY'S ISSUE. THATS WHY YOU ORDER SAMPLES! So I contacted Kevin, explaining in a lot more detail what I was looking for and that it seemed the Etsy shop did not have what I needed - for me to find out they have a dot com! :D I explained to Kevin I found their website to see if there was anything from the site that I would be looking for - and he was able to give me the exact number of sheet seed paper I would be looking for. I wound up ordering 10 sheets of 18" x 24" wildflower seed paper and 2 sets of 100% recycled envelopes (I am printing my invites myself) Receiving the paper and envelopes was one of the best days I've had in a long time. The staff at Of the Earth were highly responsive to my needs and produced a beautiful product that shipped quickly to me. The paper turned out better than I could ever have dreamed, with flower petals and leaves preserved perfectly inside. I'm so pleased that I could help the environment while still having a nice product for my wedding. AND the cost was more than reasonable. I highly recommend Of the Earth. read more

I live nearby, so I visited the shop before placing an order. My daughter, her fiancee, and many, many guests reported absolutely loving the invitations. I wanted to make them myself just to be involved, so I ordered all supplies from Of the Earth and Kevin printed the text on the seeded paper for me as my printer couldn't handle it. He also taught me how to make the beautiful torn edges on both the lotka and their own seed paper. Kevin is a very attentive, gentle-voiced, knowledgeable fellow who exhibited great patience with my lengthy period of indecision and endless questions -- I just love this place. Ultimately I made 70 invitations with text on the seeded side and a backing of the green lotka. I sewed the fern-like plants above the text and sewed the top to the bottom layer. I used my leftovers to make seating charts and table-name cards. I found the costs very reasonable and the experience stellar. Sure, the website does need updating, but so do I! read more

I could not recommend Of The Earth more: the quality of their product is absolutely wonderful, but my recommendation is largely because of their customer service. A few weeks ago, a friend of mine in the wedding stationery industry highly recommended Of The Earth as a great resource for silk ribbon at an affordable price and in a variety of colors. I ordered a sample right away (which shipped and arrived quickly!), and decided to go ahead and order several spools for a wedding client of mine. Because I live on the opposite side of the country from Of The Earth, I chose an expedited ship method, and they shipped my order with a few days buffer for my client's deadline. Unfortunately, the package was delayed/lost by the shipping company in transit. Deadlines with weddings are always strict, and after the delivery date came and went I was definitely stressed out about keeping on deadline. When I let Of The Earth know about the situation, not only did they get a new order out to me the same day, but they also were able to get me a refund of my original shipping payment. Kevin communicated with me throughout, and I was able to get the ribbon in time to complete my client's project without any change in schedule. They took a stressful situation and went above and beyond to make it better, even though none of what happened was their fault. I will absolutely be coming back for more ribbon in the future, and highly recommend that you do, too! read more
