Always a pleasure to visit the OG glassybaby in Madrona. I visited for the seconds sale and it was no biggie given how spacious their glass workshop is and the volume of glass pieces for sale. I have been a long time collector of glassybaby votives and I appreciate their mission to give back. Recommend for gifts or special occasions. Although you can always buy online, there is something special about being there in person to pick up your own and sometimes get a glimpse behind the glass as pieces are made directly behind the showroom. I didn't catch the person that helped me but I'm hoping it gets to her manager based on the day and time. I made a call in route to the store at 4:30 pm on 9/12. Asked the sale person if they had a good selection of the Seahawk "Sunday" GB. She said they had lots. I was worried that I wouldn't make it there on time as the traffic was bad. Showed up 10 minutes before the store closed at 5pm. The salesperson already picked her top five and it was easy to make a selection because of that. She was very helpful and I really appreciated the extra effort to help me out!!! read more

Not a good neighbor! They have been parking the Glassybaby truck in the same location on our residential street for over a month. Each day, their driver parks his personal car in front of our house and then takes the truck, at the end of the work day he returns the truck to the same spot and takes his personal car home. The streets in Madrona are pretty narrow; this large commercial van makes parking and maneuvering nearby all but impossible. While the streets are public rights of way, it seems reasonable that they would move it around to different locations so as to not impact one street/area overwhelmingly. My neighbor has already called and discussed this issue with the manager, who said that they would talk to the driver about moving the van around. Today, I directly asked the driver to please move the van around to different locations, and he responded rather rudely that it was a public street. I acknowledged that fact but mentioned that a business in the neighborhood should be a bit more considerate of their neighbors. He said he'd "keep an eye out for no parking signs." read more

Oh glassybaby, what happened to you? What used to be a joy has turned into a nightmare. Quality control is severely lacking. The glassybaby that are on the shelves wouldn't even be good enough to be sold as seconds. After visiting all four stores yesterday, I was floored by what I saw. glassybaby that were slanted, tops that looked like pour spouts, glassybaby that were supposed to have color were almost colorless, huge bubbles etc...I understand this product will have variation and I appreciate that; however, what is being produced now is far inferior to what used to be. Prices have increased and quality has exponentially decreased. I gave two stars simply to acknowledge that staff is always kind. read more

I was a devoted GB fan for about fifteen years. I loved receiving GB and giving them as gifts. I have a ridiculously large collection of GB, which gave me a disproportionately large amount of joy. Throughout the years, I liked having one of each kind of GB and even kept a list so I would not have duplicates. (My initial patronage predated GB's electronic list-keeping). When I received repeats as gifts, I would bring the unused, still packaged, label on, GB to the Madrona store and i would swap it for another. This happened many times with no problem, rarely with a receipt. Recently, I received a GB as a gift for my birthday in March. Because it was a duplicate of one I already had, I brought it in in early April to exchange. The employee looked at the gift receipt and told me I couldn't exchange it because it had been purchased more than 30 days earlier. I explained that I had exchanged GB many times over the years no problem. Her response was that this was the policy and, basically, too bad. I asked what would have happened if I didn't have a receipt. "We would have looked it up" Huh? It got worse from there. So, GB, to prevent me from EXCHANGING one over-priced votive for another over-priced votive you have now lost a long-time loyal customer. I won't be back, I won't buy gifts for others online and I'll make sure everyone knows I do not want GB as gifts in the future. I guess this is a win-win for both of us--you won't have to resell a GB at the same exorbitant price and I (and family and friends) will save a lot of money in the future. read more

Oh, shocker... a 5 star review! I know, I know - I can't help it. Here's the deal. I pretty much let Yelp be my local guide for all things awesome. Sticking to highly rated places helps me find the best gems in Seattle. And of course I've known about Glassybaby for years and years, but it wasn't until today that I finally visited their home base and glassblowing studio. Do not make the same mistake. Get in here now! It's incredible. The store isn't big because the products are small, but you can lose an hour in here admiring the subtle differences in each product, trying to guess the names (labels are on the bottom) and just really falling in love with the variety, creativity and beauty of these locally made products. Not into candles? You're wrong. Just come here and try not to love everything you see and touch. Plus, they have tumblers/glassware! Everyone's into drinking fluids, right? Water, cocktails, you name it - they've got gorgeous glasses for your hydration. Aside from the shop itself you can actually look into the studio and watch up to 10 or so people making Glassybabys right.in.front.of.you. It's so cool! There's another back room with another group of folks working and apparently with everyone working at the various stations, the studio can churn out 800-1000 products a day! It takes about 3 mins to complete each votive. Remember that proceeds from sales support non profits too. It's an all around awesome company who's doing great things for local business and people around the world in need. Just stop reading and come down here already! I'm headed back here for gift giving season, for wedding season, and for when I finally decide the color scheme of my new condo. Squee! read more

I love all things glasses, especially candle votive glasses and was very much looking forward to a visit at Glassybaby store. The candle holders look like they are of great quality, but the colors in real life (both when unlit and when lit) didn't look as pretty as what I saw on the website..so it was a bit of a let down for me. What I love about Glassybaby is that it's a local business that supports great cause. However, at $30+ a holder, the price is definitely really steep, too steep for me to even think about buying anything. I wish I could own some pieces from there...but that would only be the case if only their prices become more affordable. read more

Quality is not the way it used to be. I just ordered a $90 glassybaby and the quality is terrible. The glass is way too thick and the edges are all uneven. I have seconds from glassybaby that are in better shape than this one. This will be my last purchase ever. Consumer service is not good either. They don't care. But when the economy changes and people are not purchasing unnecessary items like this product maybe they will get what they deserve. read more

We stopped in a few weeks after my son was born because I wanted to commemorate his birth with a glassybaby. I will say the staff was polite, but they were quite cool to us. I am not sure if they didn't anticipate a sale or if they were just distracted, but it wasn't until I had the sales associate begin lighting tea lights to compare the glow in each candle holder that they were attentive to us. My husband held the baby and watched the glassworkers craft behind the observation window, and he seemed to enjoy that added bonus. I ended up selecting "elephant," and it sits beautifully on my desk, the faintest glow of memory illuminates the votive every time I light it. I will go back to continue purchasing meaningful votives. I don't think I would spend the money unless it was for a special occasion. read more

I love my glassy babies. I don't know why this is the only company making such a product? While colours are unique to each votive, and what you order won't look exactly like the ones online, you will never be disappointed. They are uniquely beautiful. Unfortunately, the shipping to Canada is now $50 USD (almost $70 CAD), which is ludicrous and I won't be buying any more. There should be a simple USPS shipping option that is free since the cost of the votives is so high already. read more

This company has very, very poor customer service. I bought a glassy baby that unbeknownst to me had a fault. There was a bubble, and a crack going left and right from the Bubble occurred. I contacted customer service and they asked me to send photos (including a photo of the bottom sticker, which I did. After examining the photos, the research and development team wanted me to send the glassybaby at my expense. They would return the glassybaby after examination. There was still no guarantee that I would be getting a replacement for the glassybaby sent.I asked if shipping cost would be refunded and was told "no." The product is not cheap. I have purchased several and they can check their files to see just how many I have bought. They have the proof; they have the replacement product, yet they are unwilling to provide good customer service. After this interchange, Customer service agent asked if I could bring the item to one of their stores. I was in fact going to San Francisco and brought the damage to glassybaby there. I exchanged it for another one. All in all, what could have been a relatively easy exchange was quite difficult. read more

Thanks to the seconds sale (June 20th and the 21st) and my guy, I am the proud owner of a Glassybaby second. It's light mint in color and looks solid, though when lit up, it you can see all the layers that have gone into making the piece. LOVE it. I'm not sure what the votive is called (they've all got names) and 0 of the profits from the seconds go to charity, but the price is right... and I'm still supporting a local company whose message I believe in. I received a GlassyBaby gift certificate for my birthday from a friend and went yesterday to claim my first Glassybaby. After ALL of the high expectations I have heard about the woman behind the creation of the store, the 10% going to charity, the amazing colors... I was underwhelmed when I actually got to the store. I went ot the U-Village store (just because I had other errands to run) and I was expecting to see people blowing glass right there...but alas, they just have a short loop of a film playing behind the cash register. My main complaint (besides the breath-taking prices) was that the woman behind the cash register refused to run my gift card to find out how much I had to spend (since it didn't say on the card). They have 3 levels of spending: $40 gets you a regular glassybaby, $50 gets you a bigger one (that looked to me more like something someone would drink a highball out of) and then they had special $75 ones that didn't look special to me at all. The Laurelhurst crowd was there Christmas shopping and when I asked a few questions they would all chime in and were totally condescending to me and wouldn't let the lady who actually WORKED there answer my question. How to choose? At first glance, they all look alike, but I saw people pulling out 4 or 6 of the same color to look at the "differences" of each one. The store was very crowded, and since I couldn't get an answer from the snotty lady behind the register on how much I had to spend, I decided to grab the first one that appealed to me and get the heck outta there. To be fair, the lady who was working the floor stopped me and lit it up for me so I could see it glow. She said she wanted me to be satisfied. The lights in the store are super dim, so putting the tea light in there helped a bit. So, once I got home, I was expecting to be completely blown away by lighting my Glassybaby...but I was underwhelmed...by a good measure. $40, you can't use a regular votive candle, so you are stuck with tealights that are made out of the cheapest crappiest wax known to man and you get to breathe those fumes while you are enjoying your glassybaby. Um... it seems to me that since these votive holders are made from fire that is probably upwards of 1400 degrees, why can't you burn a regular votive in them? THAT is my biggest complaint. I would even use a jar that the regular votive comes in...but I was repeatedly warned against it by the GB women who worked there. I collect glass and I thought I would be absolutely blown away by the experience of picking out my first GlassyBaby... but I doubt I'll be back there any time soon. I'm not a convert. read more

PLEASE READ MY DISAPPOINTING JOURNEY WITH GLASSYBABY !!!! I have purchased Glassybabys for the last 4 years as a Christmas gift for my daughter. I will NEVER purchase another one. On the second order at Christmas 2013 there were so many bubbles it should have been sold as a second. This Christmas (2015) I purchased Precious Cargo to the tune of $250. Two of the Glassybabys were marked "Myhr" with different appearances. There was a Gold, two Myhr and no Frankincense according to the labels. To make matters worse the entire set of "Precious Cargo" didn't come close to the pictures on the Glassybaby website. I can understand a slight variation but what I received was a joke. I was not impressed with attempts by Glassybaby to correct their mistakes. Also, I send a letter to the owner Lee Rhodes regarding that extreme bubbled Glassybaby at Christmas in 2013. Neither Lee Rhodes or any of her employees responded to my letter. Glassybaby's were originally made in China so I'm skeptical that all their products are made in the USA. If you notice, none of the packaging is proudly marked "Made in the USA". GLASSYBABY HAS SOME SERIOUS QUALITY CONTROL AND LABELING ISSUES. I am sorry to write this review on such a wonderful product. i purchased one for a friend that just completed her long grueling cancer treatment. when I received the votive it had a black spot that showed. I contacted Glassybaby, who I originally purchased from and wanted to return one without the flaw. it also was not the color it showed on their website. In doing so, she told me I had to return it and was responsible for the shipping, and also for the return shipping back to me. she called it an inclusion, I told her it should have be on their sale table as it had a definite flaw. I have 4 other glassybaby and my daughter and daughter-in-law have least 6 each without any flaws. I paid $90 dollars plus $12.50 in shipping plus tax. At that price I would think they would have been more responsive to me with my problem. I told her I was not going to pay the return shipping and was there anything she could do for me. She said no. So I told her I would keep my votive , and I would NEVER shop through them again. All she said was she was sorry to hear that. read more

While I was buying them I told the girl that they were gifts and I was really hoping that the recipients would like them. I asked if they were returnable and I was told yes, that I needed to keep the sticker on the bottom of the glass for the return. Cut to today...4 days later. I called the store to see where to return 3 of them and I found out that they are not returnable?! Glassybaby will only do exchanges for in-store credit. I'm a teacher. My now-husband is a fledgling web developer. Glassybaby items are not in our price range. By ANY stretch. So imagine my surprise when, three days before our wedding, we discovered we could RENT Glassybaby votives? For $180, we had trios of Glassybabies at each of our tables, and the results were dazzling. Did I mention we took care of this three days before our wedding? Because we did. The folks in charge of the rental took care of me by phone, and took care of my parents in person. It was the perfect finishing touch for our tables. HIGHLY recommended. And we did dig into our pockets and buy one lovely turquoise Glassybaby for our friend who hosted several out-of-town wedding guests. :) read more

I enjoy the shop, the people that work there, and these candle holders are very nice. Good for substantial gifts...wedding, milestone birthday, etc. People will be charmed. That said, these are just one design repeated--essentially an assembly line. Therefore too much money, IMHO. (I know how much it costs to run a furnace and buy an annealer. ) If you want to splurge on a precious gift, sure, go to glassybaby. Gotta love glassybabies! These are the greatest little gifts for friends and family. Granted, you better really like them to give a glassybaby (read: $40 each), but they will definitly make a wonderful impression. You have to give yourself time to shop around for colors. Each glassybaby is unique. From their shape, to color, to glow... you have to really check each one out to ensure it's perfect. We own far too many. Complete disclosure: both the wife and I used to work for glassybaby. Thus, we didn't pay $40 each. With that said, you can't get a better company to support as they are local, hire local artists and create each unit in their Seattle location, and give so much money back to charity. [Note: This review is more about the private glassblowing events than the retail experience.] I recently held a glassblowing event here for my team - it was a lot of fun! We had just under 30 people in our group and we had 3-4 glassblowers helping us make glass pieces through the night. It went surprisingly fast considering how many people we had. Rae helped me coordinate our event and was lovely to work with. I didn't get to meet all the glassblowers, but the one that I was working with (Jared?) was very easy to work with and made it a fun experience. I think most everyone had a good time. I picked up the glass pieces a couple days later - we made bowls, ornaments, and floats. One of the pieces had broken in the oven, so they offered to remake the piece... but my colleague was hoping that she'd be able to go in again and make it herself, and they were able to accommodate her request. From a retail perspective, if you've never been to a glassybaby shop, I would recommend stepping in one - that way, you can pick out the exact color/shape you want. They let you put candles in them to see how they look when they're lit. They all have character, but it's nice to see them all lined up before making a decision. read more

I'm sure you're thinking candle votives...seriously? What's so great about that? If you are asking yourself this question - you have not seen a glassybaby. The glow illuminated from these little concoctions is unparalleled. Inside the austere shop are black shadow boxes you can use to pick and arrange your favorite colors together for the perfect fit. Every color you could ever dream - they've got it. Don't go to the store without a full wallet, because once in there, it's hard to leave without a glassybaby in hand. The only downside is they're $40 a pop - unless you hit the once-yearly sale of "botched" glassybaby's (by botched I mean some have knicks, are too tall/short, basically they're still gorgeous). These are absolutely gorgeous glasses. My husband and I received two as a wedding gift several years ago. Within a few months, they both cracked, but I wasn't able to contact the company because we were getting ready to move overseas and I ran out of time. I took photos and just contacted the company upon returning to the states. The person who gifted the glasses to us assured us that the company had stellar customer service and after living in a region of the world that does not cater to customers I was looking forward to having the glasses replaced. I sent photos in an email to the customer service contact, and they responded with friendly messages but refused to replace the glasses. I was really disappointed, especially considering they were a special gift from people we care about and what it would cost to replace them. Super disappointed. read more

I recently discovered Glassybaby on a design site and well...it was love at first site. I decided to start my collection right away. I live in the DC area so a trip to the store isn't an option for me. I was a bit hesitate to order online, other reviews mentioned bubbles in the glass, uneven bottoms, and colors not as brilliant as seen on the website. Well...I received my order yesterday. I purchased cabo, sweet pea and hope. t They are perfect, beautiful little gems of color that look gorgeous as is and even better lit. I am officially obsessed. Realize that if you order online it might take two weeks before they ship anything. This is especially something to note if you are buying a gift that you need to get there by a certain date. I bought gifts that, literally took three weeks between ordering and arriving. Ordered mid Feb 2021- still waiting (MAR 5TH) but expecting them to arrive mid March. They will blame it on COVID, but, I mean, there is no advance warning when you place an order. So take note! read more

All the colors of the rainbow can be lit within your home! Heck you can literally make your own double rainbow from these beauties! The studio is pretty sweet and I love that its hidden in sleepy Madrona. Each votive holder is certainly a piece to admire with its pigment in color and perfect circular structure. My cousin gave me a glassybaby for Christmas a few years back, and ever since I have been wanting to take the leap and buy more for myself. I live in Los Angeles and today I called the customer service line and it was GREAT. Christiana helped me on the phone, taking the time to describe colors and help me figure out exactly what to buy and how it would all look together. I am so excited to get them (all 5!) and hope they arrive by the end of the week as she said would likely occur. I wish they were a little less expensive (I'd rate them 5 stars then!), but they are ART and made in USA which is rare and which I totally support...not to mention the charity aspect to the company. I've not been to the store but my daughter in law gave me a glassy baby for Christmas. When you put a tea light in them, you can sit and watch forever. The darker colors show the light the best but regardless, they are beautiful. I'm going to buy them as presents for several people. It's especially meaningful given the history of the founder. read more
