The films it shows have usually been out for a couple of months but it is worth it to go and see them at Thirsk as it is a very quaint and lovely cinema. The seats are old style cinema seats and are quite comfy. It has a balcony with seats as well. The tickets are competitively priced and popcorn / snacks are available. Although there is no parking right outside the cinema, The cinema is not far from the market place where you can park.

Ritz…read more The Ritz is a small volunteer run cinema in Thirsk. I visit this regularly as its local, clean, comfortable and apart from recently when Mamma Mia frenzy hit, is rarely over-busy! Ticket prices are five pounds for an adult (this has only recently risen from four pounds which its held at for five years!), with reduced rates for children and concessions. There are 215 seats over two levels and the building has been renovated to include modern seating. The Ritz is a local legend having first been opened in 1912 and has a fantastic community feel to it whilst at the same time provides excellent entertainment on its one screen. Sweets/drinks etc are available at the front of the cinema and ice-creams and sweets are brought through half-way through features on a lit tray. Films usually run for a week before the next one opens and the film shown have usually already been shown in the bigger cinemas a few weeks or more before. Parking is available in the nearby town centre (literally around the corner). The Ritz provides a cheap, local and fun night out for all ages. Highly recommended!
