The palace cinema used to be a great place to go, but since then they have made what used to be…read morequite a large screen (for a small town anyway) into two separate ones. When it first had its grand reopening it was really busy but on the first showing it was so hot that most people had to leave, one person even fainted! It was much better before they split the screen up. Now it is much too small to enjoy a film as much.. On the upside, it is cheaper than most of the major cinemas and it doesn't get the new blockbusters too much later than the main ones, but obviously can't show as many at once so doesn't get all of them. The seats are comfortable, drink/food is relatively cheap if you compare it to a normal cinema, but still expensive.

The is an ice cream bar, as well as a shop selling all things sweet. The only downside really is the price of everything. I know cinemas have a reputation for being a lot of money, but this is the most expensive one i have been to before. The only way you could really get your moneys worth is if you went to the cinema more than a few times a month then you could get an unlimited pass. otherwise its an expensive night out. On the other hand the actual screen are very good, seats are the comfiest I have ever seen in a cinema.

If you're going in the late afternoon/evening on a popular day (e.g. Fridays, weekends or Orange Wednesdays) then there can be quite a long queue for tickets but it moves quite quickly. There's plenty of leg room but the floor can get messy/sticky so be careful about putting your handbag under your seat (mine got covered in chocolate sauce once!) There's a bar upstairs but during busy times the seating is very limited.

This cinema is ancient!…read more Although not the first time I've been since the old Warner Bros cinema was bought by Vue in 2003, it's facilities is nearly exactly the same. Seats are uncomfy and old (although they do have 2 or 3 rows of VIP seats now). Toilets are woeful and old. Ticket prices are also very expensive - £8.40 during peak times (5pm onwards) - and food & drink is getting expensive too. I think if cinemas want to encourage people to visit, they should charge considerably less for tickets, food & drink and invest in refurbishments inside (esp for this outdated Vue). Lastly, thank god for orange Wednesdays!

But the restaurants next door offer discount to the cinema if you eat there - which is a great incentive to get out for the night. Lots of parking - and queues aren't normally bad. I would go all the way to 5 stars if they were an IMAX cinema - it's big enough to have it installed - so they should just do it.

There are many things to do here, which would certainly be suitable for families, adventure seekers, cinema lovers and co, including Tenpin bowling, a Cineworld Cinema. There is also a gym and rock climbing area. For food and drink, you're also tempted by a wide array of brands including Nando's, Ask Italian and Pizza Express. There is also a Starbucks here, although it didn't look too welcoming. It felt so uncomfortable that they openly admitted they did not trust customers to have food items in the fridges, and kept them all in the back - I totally understand loss prevention but I've never seen any Starbucks locations do this other than this one. The car park is HUGE, it felt way too big, but I'm sure due to the varied things to do and eat here, it can get quite busy, especially in such a peak location, being right off the motorway it makes it easily accessible through all points of the country. PRO TIP: If you're going on a longer journey, make this a stop off to get a bite to eat or something to drink, you have a selection of brands and you're not paying the high prices of motorway service stations. There is a small selection of shops here too, but nothing too special, this isn't really a place you'd come to shop. There's a sporting goods store and a WHSmith Travel location as I could recall, that's pretty much it. 4* - I like this place, it's pretty cool and certainly a good spot for a family day out.

The Vue cinema, a large modern cinema from the chain of Vue cinemas - pretty much a rising chain…read moreover the last few years. It is quite confusing to get to as you almost appear to be driving past it to get into it so if you're a driving visitor to the area I would recommend looking up the route before you go. The cinema is a really big complex right near a pizza hut. The area it's built on looks really modern with big sandy stones. Parking is free. Inside it's pretty much like other vue cinemas, a huge blue decorated entrance room with the big pink neon signs and a door to the left which direct you through to the screens. The prices aren't really that cheap for the area - there are cheaper cinemas in Middlesbrough but of course that's a little out of the way so you might be better saving on petrol costs! I think it's around £6 for a student ticket which is what I get and a bit more for adult prices. The vue cinema has a really cool aura to it once you go through to the screens - the lights are all dimmed and each screen is indicated by a large bright pink neon number. Beware though - some of the screens are hidden round bits of protruding wall. The screens are all really nice with the seats arranged so that each row is much higher than the next in order for people who a tiny to be able to see! There are also some boosters you can use for particularly small children who might struggle to see. The actual screen is massive so I would advise not sitting near the front. Refreshements aren't cheap but you can't take in your own. Overall it's a bit expensive for me and I only tend to go if its for a specific reason.
