The palace cinema used to be a great place to go, but since then they have made what used to be…read morequite a large screen (for a small town anyway) into two separate ones. When it first had its grand reopening it was really busy but on the first showing it was so hot that most people had to leave, one person even fainted! It was much better before they split the screen up. Now it is much too small to enjoy a film as much.. On the upside, it is cheaper than most of the major cinemas and it doesn't get the new blockbusters too much later than the main ones, but obviously can't show as many at once so doesn't get all of them. The seats are comfortable, drink/food is relatively cheap if you compare it to a normal cinema, but still expensive.

This cinema is ancient!…read more Although not the first time I've been since the old Warner Bros cinema was bought by Vue in 2003, it's facilities is nearly exactly the same. Seats are uncomfy and old (although they do have 2 or 3 rows of VIP seats now). Toilets are woeful and old. Ticket prices are also very expensive - £8.40 during peak times (5pm onwards) - and food & drink is getting expensive too. I think if cinemas want to encourage people to visit, they should charge considerably less for tickets, food & drink and invest in refurbishments inside (esp for this outdated Vue). Lastly, thank god for orange Wednesdays!

But the restaurants next door offer discount to the cinema if you eat there - which is a great incentive to get out for the night. Lots of parking - and queues aren't normally bad. It has been improved many times since with vast entertainment and display areas added. I have only had experience when Whitby Folk Festival virtually take over the complex for one week in August. Wonderful dance and music sessions in the Exhibition Hall and the downstairs pavilion hall and top class performances in the theatre. All ground floor areas have dedicated bars with a good selection of drinks and the main area has a cafe/coffee bar which serves a wide variety of snacks and meals at the appropriate times. The views over the sea are spectacular I am told this is one of the few places in Britain one can actually watch the sun come up and go down over the sea and I can well believe it, having seen some spectacular sunsets and dawns.

The dance floor is huge, there is ample of seating areas and 2 bars meaning you get served a lot quicker. the decor is very modern and it hosts a lot of top name djs as well as regualr theme nights. If you are lucky enough to use the vip area, it has its own bar, toilets, dancefloor and the most comfy sofa's ever, hard not to fall asleep. Most nightclubs the drinks are really expenisve but here they are reasonable, all the staff and friendly and overall its a good night out. During the day it then turns into a cinema on a large screen, where you can watch a choice of the latest releases, whcih is great with there being no cinema in the town.
