The kids and I stopped here after our recent trip to a local museum for a cool treat. It was too pretty to not stop by even if we didn't buy anything. Who are we kidding? Who doesn't love a good boba, milk tea, matcha latte, or gelato? We're guilty of all the above. I ordered a mango matcha and Golden Buddha silk boba because I couldn't decide and we were on vacation. :) The kids ordered classic milk tea bobas, and my youngest ordered their strawberry gelato in a cone. The lady at the window misheard me and scooped a scoop of tiramasu gelato on top of my son's strawberry, so I asked for a cup to fix this situation. We thankfully got everything situated and my son never saw the tiramasu on touching his strawberry gelato. We enjoyed our cool treat at two shady tables on the street then headed down third street to do some shopping. Their prices were fair given the touristy area we were in. We would return next time we're in Santa Monica.
Excellent authentic tea drinks. The dong ding high mountain tea is flavorable and award winning we had it iced and unsweetened. We also had an iced coffee latte with oat milk unsweetened that was also good. Prices are a bit lower than many other tea & coffee shops for less the quality. Located in a cute shop on 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica. Nice to sit indoor or outdoor in their patio to relax and people watch.
Cute little Boba and gelato spot. Offers a limited menu but with some unique offerings. Starting July 7, they're gonna have a corn milk Matcha tea, which is unheard of at my typical Boba places the sample I tried of. It is surprisingly wonderful. Definitely taste the corn flavor and there's a natural sweetness because of it is already earthy, and the corn adds kind of a warmth to it. I got their classic champion milk tea with Boba and I love that I was able to customize the sweetness level. The Boba itself is already sweet enough for me so I paired the sweetness level way down of the milk tea. The man helping me at the register was super friendly and patient as he gave me a couple of samples. If I'm in the third Street promenade area again I wouldn't mind stopping by here for a nice refreshing drink or gelato. Unfortunately, this spot doesn't validate for parking.
Odd one out is highly rated so I had been looking forward to trying their award winning Golden Buddha tea. The tea was decent and had some depth of flavor, but not worth the higher end pricing. I honestly expected more from their award winning tea and best seller. Seating is limited. This location has a storefront in the middle of third street promenade but not a full blown store. There was only one long bench for seating. Service was amazing. It seemed that there were some wrong orders and the equipment was not working properly so the manager was very kind and fixed everything. He offered refunds and even added toppings for the inconvenience. He tried his best to resolve everything while training his staff on what to do. He was very calm as well. Ok boba place with limited menu at this franchise location but great customer service!
I loved seeing the small orange shop outside in the Santa Monica area. I tried the Sobacha milk tea, which had a distinct malt and popcorn flavor. It was smoothy, creamy, and had a unique toasted sweetness with a rich and warm nutty note that made it enjoyable. My friend tried their Iron Buddha milk tea and also commented on the quality and richness of the drink, which I agreed with. On top of their many distinct traditional flavors to try, they also had ice cream flavors which I would love to try in the future!
This was a pretty mediocre boba place. Located in the middle of the 3rd Street Promenade, it's got a great location, but a fairly limited menu (they didn't even have Thai Tea, which tends to be a staple.) To be fair, they do offer some matcha varieties I haven't seen elsewhere. You can order via touchpad or speak with an employee. I spoke with an employee because I wanted extra-sweet boba tea. The guy I spoke to seemed a little confused, but I got my boba tea in about 5 minutes. It tasted like Lipton tea. And it wasn't even very sweet. I honestly drank about a 1/3 of the drink before tossing it in the trash. Not recommended.
Got the Champion Milk Tea, and it was honestly sooo good!! Super rich in flavor, with a strong tea taste that was creamy and delicious. The guy who took our order was also super nice and helpful. The vibes were super cute and the seats were spaced out and super spacious!! Definitely coming back the next time I'm at the Third Street Promenade!
Odd One Out is conveniently located on the 3rd Street Promenade. They have an extensive menu consisting of Boba teas, milk teas, iced teas, and a short coffee menu. I'm a huge fan of Oolong teas, but I also loved the Yuzu Osmanthus that I tried during the summer. It was refreshing and perfect for a sunny stroll along the promenade. I recently tried the Crème Brûlée latte and highly recommend their version for coffee lovers like myself. The shop is small open space with a cheerful orange ambiance. There is a nice patio style seating arrangement in front, perfect for people watching. If you're looking for tea or coffee options along the promenade this is the ideal spot to visit.
Odd One Out Santa Monica is a super cute store on the Promenade with a great environment. The silk boba is definitely unique and I like the smoother texture of it. Their teas are also great.
I love Earl Grey tea and London Fog lattes. But somehow I'd never thought to have either with boba until I arrived at Odd One Out Tea. I ordered Earl Grey, no sugar, boba, with cream top and it was perfect, and the tea was strong just the way I like it. I'd gladly return here for another boba!
Parking: Free 90 min parking in Santa Monica public parking structures. Ambiance: Cute, convenient little open stand in the middle of 3rd street promenade with table seating Service: They used to have convenient online pickup through Square but going in person is still a quick turnaround and a newly installed self-order kiosk adds efficiency as well. Also happy they extended their hours to fulfill dessert cravings. Food: This location offers unique gelato options that you can sample and my favorite seasonal series includes the pistachio matcha that has genuine nutty flavor despite being a bit grainy, complements the matcha very well and is my go-to order when I see it on the menu since it's hard to find elsewhere. Double jasmine milk tea with jasmine "silk boba" (more of a jelly) has great tea flavor as well and 50% default perfect sugar is good, though jelly doesn't have a distinct jasmine flavor in my opinion. When it's cold out, also love getting the hot version of the jasmine milk tea. Miss the coconut sugar boba option that was more unique but got replaced with brown sugar boba which is sweeter. The Sawtelle location had an Iron Buddha Wintermelon that was a good balance of sweetness with tea flavor that the Santa Monica one doesn't have unfortunately. All in all, really happy to have such a solid boba spot in a very easily accessible location in Santa Monica.
Having only visited the Sawtelle location before, this was my first time at this spot. It's a cute little shop right in the heart of the Promenade, and I was impressed by how much more expansive the menu is here. They offer gelato, extra boba options, and a wider variety of matcha flavors than I've seen previously. I decided to try a few of the flavors that aren't available at Sawtelle, and they were great. Their Jasmine Silk boba is as consistent as ever- perfectly chewy and unique. I'm so glad there's an option in this area now!
This is SO exactly what we needed on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica! Based on the lines, it would see the rest of the town agrees with me. Odd One Out started in Taipei and now comes to us in LA via a few local locations - Pasadena, Sawtelle, Koreatown and now here in Santa Monica. They pride themselves on using small batch tea leaves and what they call flavoursmiths (their baristas, tea experts, gelato connoisseurs and mixologists). Cute. I stopped by with my friend before a movie at the AMC across the street. A few were before us in line but it moved quickly and then they call your name once it's ready. They have a bunch of seating here but you can really find seats anywhere throughout the Promenade. Great people watching! I had the Yuzu Apple Shiso on my latest trip and it was so refreshing. Very light, like an apple tinted water with a few apple slices for decor and extra flavoring. My friend usually gets their Yuzu Osmanthus-a menu staple - and this is a variation of that with Jade Oolong, Yuzu, Apple Juice, Shiso, and Osmanthus. I absolutely loved it and will get it again! Odd One Out Tea is amazing and I will definitely be back! Great addition to the 'hood!

Updating a post from before - I've been really impressed by two trips here this week. The matcha quality is excellent, service is consistently warm and helpful, and I find myself craving it throughout the day. Mango matcha is such a fun, non-traditional flavor and I love it. The lines were ridiculous during the summer but it's been fairly quiet this week with the construction happening around it. read more

October 15, 2026 | Santa Monica | Whenever I'm walking along Third Street Promenade, I notice this cafe, Odd One Out Tea! I finally decided to stop by, as the sign stated possibly the best matcha! Lets's see, as I'm a lover of Matcha! Matcha | I genuinely love the taste of Matcha w/ unsweetened almond milk, no sweeteners needed! I was craving matcha in the evening, which is not often! Once the matcha watered down a bit, I somewhat enjoyed the flavor. The flavor was not it for me. I will not order it again. However, I'm looking forward to trying other drinks on the menu. Customer Service | Super friendly, as well as helpful with the menu! Seating | Inside & outside, tables & chairs! Great view of the Promenade! Decor | Bright orange & white! Upbeat! Overall | I'm actually open to giving this cafe another try! After all, there is also a sign that states, the Award-Winning Milk Tea won 1st place at the Taiwan Milk Tea Festival in 2022 & 2023! I tried the boba from Odd One Out at an event a couple weeks ago and liked it so much that I knew I had to come back for more. Then recently, I was in the area grabbing lunch with my family, so of course I had to stop by. Odd One Out is a small stand in the middle of Third Street Promenade. I ordered online and picked up, but I saw a couple folks ordering at the kiosks inside. There's limited indoor seating, but there is some outdoor seating. I got their most popular drink - the TW 22 champion milk tea, as that was the drink I fell in love with at my event, with less ice and perfect (50%) sugar. The description for the drink is red oolong milk tea with cream foam. It's a bit on the pricey side, running at $8.45 for a large, but it's SO good. The flavor is perfectly balanced between the tea, milk, and sugar, and I loved the creaminess added from the cream foam. Usually I prefer jasmine-based milk teas, but the champion milk tea here is a winner for me. Would highly recommend! read more

Super Cute boba tea shop at the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica: ODD ONE OUT TEA. Felt like stepping into a trolley car. They are an award winning boba shop founded in Taiwan! I ordered a large Matcha Einspanner and enjoyed drinking the beverage while walking through the promenade. The matcha was smooth, rich, and creamy, while the boba was wonderfully fresh and chewy. I would definitely order this again. The drink menu included pure tea, milk tea, odd tea, ice blended, specialty, and even gelato! Everything sounded so refreshing that I was tempted to order two drinks for myself! But, I didn't have enough hands, nor the space in my tummy. So, next time! ;-) read more
Surprisingly, it gets busy with a steady flow of traffic. This is actually a chain so I figured it is a must try especially if you like tea. Has a Asian taste to it so it's not like a typical Starbucks tea. Many wonderful flavors. Tried the red oolong as well as the Jasmine green. It comes unsweetened if you are watching your sugar. They also sell ice cream and pastries, although they don't have an oven to warm up your pastries. Definitely a nice spot to have a little bite as you continue strolling along the sadly empty promenade. read more

The tea shop was in the middle of a nice Santa Monica mall district which caught us by surprise. Unique architecture to enjoy as you wait for your drink. The ordering process was pretty quick and easy. The server was polite. However, they did not tell us that the matcha comes unsweetened so my drink was not as sweet as I would have liked. I ordered a matcha mango and after three sips all the mango and sweetness were gone. There were some clumps of matcha in my drink as well. Next time I would try the ice cream or coffee they have here. *alternative milk friendly (oat milk) read more

This is such a cute boba spot with delicious milk tea. We ordered the golden Buddha and the tea flavor was delicious! I really like that they have different flavored boba including wintermelon silk boba. They came out very fast and there is few places to sit and hang out. read more

It's a cute outdoor tea shop. The choices of tea, they have are unique choices in beverages, that all look delicious. The service was excellent. Overall the pistachio matcha was excellent, I would definitely go back and try other flavors. read more

Doing business on the Promenade is tough. So it's nice seeing the For Lease sign go down and watching a new tenant move into a vacant space. I've been to their Sawtelle location twice and enjoyed both drinks, so I thought this experience was going to be good as well. It was just okay. Both the Jasmine Milk Tea and Golden Buddha were on the overly creamy side, with a fairly non existent tea flavor. Just milk mixed with sugar. The texture of the boba was soft, with some chew to it. For an $8+ drink, I expected better. read more

Pure Jasmine tea with boba was so good! The boba ratio is a dream, and the flavor is pretty strong. Boba is definitely on the softer side. Got less ice and it melted way too fast, especially with the warmish boba so maybe get normal ice. Loved how how theres no doors especially with the evening breeze coming through. read more

I ordered the Earl Grey milk tea, I feel like the Earl Grey tea could have a stronger flavor which would make the drink better. My husband ordered one of their specialty fruity teas, and his drink had a really strong tea flavor, and I liked his drink a lot! I'm definitely ordering one of their fruity teas moving forward. Drinks come out really quickly, which is nice. Instead of your classic boba, they have a jasmine silk, which has a fun jelly boba like texture. read more

Been hearing a lot of good things abt this place and I can definitely see why. They have a good variety of drinks on their menu and I like how they have seasonal items. I especially like that their seasonal item so happened to be pistachio drinks bc pistachio and matcha are such a good pairing when done right. I think at some points the pistachio overpowered the matcha a bit so it just tasted like a pistachio latte buut it still tasted pretty good. I tried a sip of the other drinks and also thought they were yummy! read more
