Went with my friend for our wed night dinner while his wife goes out with her friends. We ordered a few rolls and some apps. The apps were good as we got a fresh salad and some popcorn shrimp. The rolls were good not the best but very good and inexpensive. If you are looking for a solid place to have some rolls then give it a shot read more

Great place, for dining or take out. We took out for a holiday party this time. The must try here is the sushi pizza, terrific! Also, the seaweed salad is excellent here. I personally like Ginger, and they gave us too little, but the quality of sushi for the price is a good deal and taste is good!! Always satisfied when we come here. Never had a bad meal. Almost every sushi person in town knows Ocha as a favorite. It's a cool atmosphere to eat in but take out is easy and they always get the order correctly! read more

Really good rolls. Clean and decent atmosphere . Waitress was cool. I've had better but it's worth the trip . read more

This is the place to come if you have a night out and are looking for some high quality sushi. I've come here since I was a kid, and the food is continuously fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is very chic and aesthetically pleasing. Service is spot on- the staff knows the menu and is more than willing to walk you through their favorites. read more

I would've given this a higher rating had it not been for the appetizer. I ordered sashimi that was supposed to be topped with a white truffle oil. When the meal came to the table, the sashimi looked like it had been cut with a rusty dull knife and you couldn't even find the fish under the dressing... It was almost inedible. Our sushi rolls, on the other hand, were fresh and tasty. Some say the prices here are high, but I felt they were in-line with the local competitors. read more

Terrible place for sushi. Ordered sashimi boat and some hand rolls. The roll was super heavy on rice with tiny amount of eel, ikura overly salty, eel sushi had an very small piece of eel as well. Very disappointing. Sad to see that the quality of this place has gone down. I hope you improve and consider serving something fresh with some consideration. read more

We have been to Ocha many, many times. Since Tomo was forced to close his restaurant in Little Falls, Ocha, by default, is the best sushi in the area. It is always fresh and tasty. I saw some reviews complaining about the service, but we've never had any problems and, in fact, love the friendly service at Ocha. My only complaint is that that prices are a little on the high side for the size of the pieces/rolls. Not outrageous, but higher than most other places in the area; I don't mind paying for quality (and, with sushi, I would never substitute quantity for quality), but prices at Ocha are higher than Tomo's were, and his sushi was an even higher quality. In any event, if you're looking for Sushi in the Caldwell area, go to Ocha; none of the other area restaurants come close. read more

This is a solid sushi spot that I've come back to a few times. Never had a bad experience and what they serve seems fresh. Lots on the menu, too, which makes the decision difficult but that's a good problem to have. BYOB! read more

After lots of word of mouth, I decided to give Ocha a try. Their food was beyond delicious. I'm not the biggest sushi eater, but I think that is partially because I haven't found a place I love like this place. A full service menu of sushi and lots of other great Asian dishes, there is SO much to choose from. What's great about Ocha is you can come here with people who don't like sushi because they are sure to find something. I loved their tuna sushi pizza, something I normally would never think to try but it was incredible. And their speciality rolls, which normally would be too complex for me, are absolutely delicious. My favorite is the tuna lover. They have some of the best shrimp shumai and their regular hand cut rolls like spicy tuna are fantastic and fresh. On the hot side, my non-sushi loving husband is obsessed with the General Tso's chicken; said it's the absolute best he's ever had. On the service end, it's just OK. They could refill your water glasses and bring a wine bucket for your chilled wine more often. They deliver to surrounding areas, including Livingston, which is a huge bonus, are BYOB and take OpenTable for reservations. A definite must try if you love sushi! read more

Definitely a 4 star place for us. The food was really excellent. We had some hot dishes and sushi and rolls as well. All were excellent. We did come here a but early on a weekend (6:30pm) and the food simply came out too quickly. The service is friendly but they obviously lack the skills to pace our food. It seemed like a family with no prior food service experience. But that's not a bad thing necessarily. They were super attentive. It just happened too fast for us. We will definitely be back. read more

Great lunch spot! Staff was nice and attentive. Restaurant very clean and modern. The lunch specials are amazing! I ordered salmon sashimi comes with 10 pieces, rice, salad and miso soup. For $11! Hubby had chicken teriyaki like bento box for $11 and we were full and satisfied. Highly recommend and will be coming here for lunch often!! read more

This place really needs to get their act together. They have delicious sushi. Their service is usually mediocre, but the food makes up for it most of the time. That being said, they need to learn how to run a restaurant. We made reservations for Valentines Day three weeks in advance. My boyfriend called gave his fist name, John, and they said ok and hung up. No last name? Should have been our first clue. When we arrive on Valentines Day for our 8pm reservation we walk into a crowd of people just standing around. There is NO hostess. The waitresses are walking around aimlessly and seating random people. Not asking if anyone has a reservation. Finally we sit down and wait about ten minutes before having to flag someone down to order a soda. Another bad sign. We finally get someone's attention and order. This begins our wait. About a half hour goes by and we haven't gotten our appetizer. We overhear the table next to us wondering aloud if their food is ever coming. We find out they have been there for an hour and have not received any food. A few minutes later they get up and leave without eating. I didn't really want to ruin our Valentines Day dinner so I tried to remain patient. Finally at 9:45 pm, after an hour and a half of waiting, we threw in the towel and ask for the check. My boyfriend actually had to get up from the table and stand by the machine and make them give us the check, as it became clear it wasn't coming otherwise. Lucky for them they did not have us pay for our sodas and apologized but I don't know if I will ever return. Valentines Day is a major holiday! Hire a host, bring in more than three servers! Get your act together Ocha so we can enjoy your delicious sushi please read more

This is actually my second time at Ocha. Let me start off with the service. On both occasions, the service was excellent. If I was rating Ocha on simply service, it would be a 4. Now for the food. It is ok. Not amazing and certainly not bad. There are some Japanese dishes I like to eat (non-sushi) which are not on the menu. The prices are just right at Ocha. However, again, the sushi and food is just ok. For example, last night, I felt like going out of the box and had pineapple shrimp fried rice. The dish was tasty, but a little too greasy. Everyone else (3 others) had sushi, rolls, etc. They all reported to me that their meals were ok. My friend also had a lettuce wrap taco appetizer. It looked ok, and he said it was ok. So, why did I go back to Ocha a second time? I remembered there being a Japanese restaurant near that area, but I could not recall the name. I went on Yelp, of course, and Ocha came up. Nothing else came up in the general restaurant search. So, we went back to Ocha, thinking maybe I was simply wrong that there was another Japanese restaurant in that area. Well, when we got to Ocha, across the street is Nori. Ouch. I wonder why Nori did not show up in the search. When I was at Ocha, I did the search again and still no Nori. Then, I did a specific search for Nori and there it is. Next time, I will try Nori. read more

I've loved this place for years!! Fantastic food and great customer service every time. Perfect for all ages!!

Great Place! Came here for a surprise birthday dinner for my sister in law. Our appetizer was the Spicy tuna sushi pizza it was excellent!!! My dinner was vegetable Pad Thai which was really good. I also tried the Ocha Special Roll (Ocha) it was awesome!!! Will definitely visit again. read more

I probably eat at this restaurant 3+ times a week! That is how much I love it! Virtually everything on their menu is something that is delicious and I enjoy trying something new every time I go! My favorite appetizers are the tuna tartare (add avocado), the white tuna carpaccio (add avocado), the sushi pizza, and the tuna tataki. I always start with any one of these appetizers, and when I go with my friends I con them into sharing 2 of them with me. My favorite special rolls are the spicy girl roll, the tuna lover roll, the monster roll, and the ocha roll. All so delicious and the sauces they add make it so yummy! My favorite normal rolls are spicy white tuna, banana tempura with tuna, Philadelphia, Alaska, spicy salmon avocado, and spicy tuna avocado. Clearly I absolutely love avocado but can be replaced with cucumber or just with the fish. The food is amazing, which is why I continue to dine at the restaurant. I suggest going very early for dinner or else you may be stuck waiting for a period of time. Also, make sure you have patience when dining because it gets so packed! Definitely put this restaurant on your list of go to places ! read more

4.5! Came here for a friend's birthday and sat at a table for 8 in the corner by the window. Great spot, ample room, and easy to hear each other! Also BYOB which was a plus, and very nice service. The Squid Salad was amazing and fresh. Also a very generous portion. The dressing was light- lemony and soy sauce mix complimenting well together. Also love that the squid was grilled and not fried!! The cucumber brown rice roll I ordered was good (can't really mess that up). I decided a different route this time since the special rolls basically all had mayo and/or were fried- major turnoff for me. It's also pretty pricy here and the sashimi/sushi only are one piece each. But, the fish was very fresh, so I'll pay for that! Overall, great sushi and great place, just be warned if you like healthier rolls. Would still definitely come back/order! read more

Great lunch specials! My co-workers and I, sushi-obsessed and consistently underwhelmed by our building's cafeteria, ordered lunch. We got a pile of sushi (2 rolls, miso + salad for $8.50??? Sold!) and a Bento box (tempura, rice, spring roll, California roll, miso soup + salad for $9.95???). The prices are amazingly reasonable, and the food is good. The tempura batter was a bit thick for our eater's taste, but that was the only complaint. We look forward to returning soon! read more

Delicious combinations! I have not had anything that was not delicious. I dream of the sushi pizza and pink lady roll, but the ocha roll and snow mountain were really tasty as well. I haven't had anything I didn't like and am always excited to try something new! read more

I've been coming to Ocha for nearly 10 years now and this is my favorite sushi spot in NJ. Two words... sushi pizza. You must order, they do it right. I try new specialty rolls every time I go and have never been disappointed. Two of my all time favs is the passion roll and the eel and fried banana roll. Service has always been great as well. read more

Went here for sushi a while back with my girlfriend for our anniversary. The Sushi - was really good overall, we each got 2 of their special rolls which were all delicious. I feel like any of these special rolls would have been great. Edamame as an appetizer and their house miso soup (both awesome). The Uni Sushi - I had also gotten a piece of their Uni Sushi (which I usually don't like in general from the 2 other times I've tried it at different places) and this place nailed it for me. I'm not really sure what they did differently but it was just REALLY GOOD! For me, Uni was something I was never really sure if I liked or not but was always on my mind. Now I can definitely say I am a fan of Uni and I really wish I had ordered another piece when I had finished it. The Restaurant - was decently filled and not TOO crowded on a Saturday night around 7 surprisingly. We were able to get a nice booth seating even though they told us we wouldn't be able to get one when I had made the reservation. When we got there, they were very accommodating and the food came out at a steady pace. My only negative comment was the lighting, it was a bit dark which i understand was supposed to be romantic and mood lighting. It was still tolerable though. (I also just really wanted to snap a photo of my food cause I'm one of 'those' people, hehe.) Overall - Great experience, delicious sushi, and GREAT UNI! read more

Me and my family have been coming here for about 4 years now. Extremely delicious food especially the sushi pizza and for dessert always fried ice cream. Definitely would recommend to everyone who likes sushi read more

Visited the place with a friend. The food was mediocre, the service okay but what was not okay was the bathroom. It was filthy, filthy, filthy. Judging by its cleanliness (or the lack of), I can't imagine how do they keep the kitchen clean. Always judge the quality of a restaurant by how clean their bathrooms are. Will not come back, plenty other places to eat at in my town of Caldwell. read more

This is one of the most disgusting places I had sushi, and bento box. Everything tasted stale and old and was hard to finish that I left practically half! There are so many other places that are way better priced and better quality! read more

We were originally headed to Nori but got talked into Ocha while we were having a drink at Cloverleaf beforehand. We were chatting with a nice gentleman at the bar who couldn't rave enough about the sushi pizza at Ocha. Anyway, we headed there instead and ordered the tuna sushi pizza. It was to die for! We've never had anything like it and loved it. I could have eaten the whole thing myself instead of sharing it. We ordered 4 rolls as our dinner. I honestly forgot which ones, but they were delicious and rolled very well. Will definitely be back. read more

My roommate and i loved it. And being in college and not having money all the time. This place was very affordable.

Got takeout from here tonight and it was such a disappointment. $24 worth of sashimi - a few pieces tasted funky while the others were sliced thin and looked limp. The $12 hibachi noodles were nothing more than noodles tossed inn soy sauce with some carrots. $75 worth of food and none of it was impressive. We won't be doIng takeout here again.. read more

Very good sushi, but it's been better. It seems like the quality has gone down a notch. I completely understand how Covid-19 has affected the restaurant industry, but they need to clean up the interior, even though they're only doing takeout. It looks awful inside, and it's a poor reflection on the restaurant. Hope the kitchen is cleaner read more

This is, without a doubt, THE BEST sushi around! The regular menu is also excellent, but the sushi is so good that we rarely order anything else! The ambience is warm and contemporary and you could not ask for nicer hosts!! Joyce and her husband are so welcoming and the food is always fresh and delicious! BYOB and have a fun, relaxing lunch or dinner! OR order take out, but look no further for awesome Japanese! read more

A quality local sushi joint I would have enthusiastically recommended even BEFORE their gorgeous renovation! Now with expanded seating space and updated decor that lends a swanky, modern vibe, Ocha is not to be missed. Even after the renovation, Ocha's friendly, small-town feel perseveres and is evident through the attentive service by waitstaff and hosts/owners who make an effort to know you by name. Over the past few years my family and I have probably sampled almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. Our favorites include: - Sushi Pizza Appetizer - raw tuna or salmon finely chopped and served on a scallion pancake with seaweed, sesame, and a delicious kabayaki sauce - Literally any of the special rolls, but if I had to narrow it down, the Tuna Lover and the Dancing Queen really take the cake. The Tuna Lover is spicy crunchy tuna and avocado inside, spicy tuna and white tuna on top -- an explosion of flavors quite aptly named, as it is perfect for the anyone who loves or even just-sort-of-likes Tuna. The Dancing Queen has more of a tropical vibe, a mix of spicy crunchy salmon and mango inside, and shrimp, eel and avocado outside, drizzled with a mango-kabayaki glaze. Sweet, spicy and delicious, an expertly crafted mix of flavors. - The lunch 2-roll combo is a whopper of a deal and will fill you up without emptying your wallet: 2 rolls, miso soup, and salad for just $8.50 - From the Kitchen: Miso Black Cod with Sauteed Mixed Vegetables (served with soup, salad, and rice for just $19.95) -- delicious, and a great option for those not into the raw fishies or who are just in the mood for a hot meal. I could go on and on about individual dishes but really, just get yourself over there and start trying the entire menu from top to bottom. You will be glad you did. ** ALSO - BYOB! read more

if you are picky about your sushi, this is pretty food for NJ. The quality is somewhat close to NYC. The Tuna Takaki appetizer, sushi pizza and endive shashimi appetizers are solid. Rolls are also impressive -- Ocha, Tuna Lover, Fire Island..-- and if you have room for dessert the fried ice cream and cheesecake are good. The sushi B is a good combo deal. Service is friendly, but sometimes a bit slow. The restaurant can get a little chilly in the winter so dress accordingly. read more

Love the place... except for when a party of 8 comes in with 4 kids banging on the tables asking for chicken nuggets. ATTN: DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS INTO A SMALL SUSHI PLACE. Sushi pizza was amazing. Came on a Sunday, walked in maybe 10-15 mins before 4 and asked if they were opened not realizing ahead of time they didn't open for another 15 mins. We would of happily took a walk and came back at opening but they sat us which was great, but our server didn't seem happy about it. The sushi is good, no complaints there but we're disappointed with our service our server just seemed annoyed with us the whole time, when we ordered our rolls she rolled her eyes like what we ordered wasn't up to her standards. Felt like we were being watched and judged the whole time. I would order take out from here but not sure if I'd feel welcomed to dine inside again. read more

Ok my friends had the hibachi at Ocha or should i say I tried the hibachi at Ocha. Do not under any circumstances ever order hibachi at Ocha. The proteins were rubber! I mean like chewing on a car tire! The taste was none existent. There was a side of woked vegetables that were soggy not crunchy like stir fried veggies should be. What a waste of money! Filet mignon and lobster i threw a piece at the chef and it's still bouncing around in their kitchen! Shameful!!! read more

We've been going to Ocha for years. We've never been disappointed and they are our goto for sushi. Creative, freshly prepared, top notch presentation. Their cooked foods are also excellent and they go out of their way to make you happy. They've recently doubled their size and the place looks fantastic. The decor is very upscale and it is a definite improvement for the "downtown" Caldwell area. We've always had the best dining experience at Ocha an I wish them luck with the new addition! read more

Excellent service and high quality sushi in NJ! Nice ambiance and decor, too.

Sushi is great, hibachi is delicious. I don't recommend the lo mein (basically just angel hair pasta in a brown sauce) or the pad thai (the chicken wasn't great and the noodles didn't taste authentic). But that said, the sushi is still good and it's a fun busy hot spot. read more
