I like how picturesque this beach is! Very blue skies!! The palm trees lined along the pier are lovely. Not much obstructs the view so it's pretty vast when you look out 180. Has some good spots to surf as a beginner. The small businesses here especially the restaurants are owned by hardworking individuals, and the city tries to keep the areas around the ocean, and bike baths clean. Of course there is homeless, drugs, and violence every now and then. Love it! Especially the entrance to the overhead parking lot overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Any beach in California is a good beach. Well -- except for polluted Imperial Beach (next to the disgusting beaches of Mexico), where Mexico uses TJ's beach as a dumping ground for sewage. You won't find that in Oceanside, home of beautiful beaches and both casual beach restaurants, as well as upscale shopping. Go search out your perfect place in the sand and watch the sunset. It's even more serene at this time in Winter, when hardly anyone is there. Check the weather before you go. At this time of year, a warm coat, hat and gloves are necessary objects. Home to a harbor which contains a lighthouse, several shops and restaurants, the Oceanside Sign, and hundreds of boats. Lots of festivals being held every year at different times. Walking downtown gives you a laid - back vibe. It is entertaining to check out the shops and restaurants while you pass by. Pay Parking is everywhere. 2 hours is allowed on the street free. We moved to Oceanside from Orange County in 2015 and it was love at first sight. We loved the mix of people, the blend of upscale restaurants and old-timey ones with character and regulars. We have an iconic pier, a great place to walk along the beach on the strand, and plenty of things to do and see. I enjoy North County more than downtown, but there are some cool things to see and do downtown as well. Oceanside has its quirks! Beautiful beach-front city with new and old businesses, but also lots of crime, d*ugs, and ga*ngs. You have to look for the pretty parts and just remember every city in the U.S. has homeless folks and such. I grew up in my hometown and I love living here. Oceanside is a military town (Marine Corps) and is family oriented with a melting pot of many different mixed races. The population of people has grown up to 175,000. I am military brat! I feel very safe because the base is only 7 miles from my home and the Oceanside Police Station is in close proximity to me. If citizens have any issues that they want to speak to the Cops about, they can attend a meeting once a month called Coffee with A Cop at different restaurants in a neutral setting. It is a good way to meet and get to know the law enforcement officers. Every summer I would go to the Oceanside beach with my friends to go body surfing, watch the surfers, and lay out in the sunshine. Their are many different things to do and to experience in Oceanside. I also have spent a lot of time walking with my family and good friends on the Oceanside Pier. Some of my favorite restaurants are Ruby's Diner, The Harbor Fish and Chips Restaurant, Jolly Roger Restaurant, Dominic's Italian Restaurant, and Teri Cafe. read more

Today we hit the beach for Father's Day and BBQ at "That Boy Good" - a recommendation I received from Yelp Elite member that we met at our first official Yelp Event in Carlsbad in April of this year! Some great food and drink finds include; Succulent Cafe for breakfast coffee or a place to study, Hello Betty for lunch with delicious chips, salsa, and tacos too, and Harney Sushi for a broad range of sushi and cocktail selections! My husband's job relocated us here 5 months ago from SF, actually Sausalito. I had lived around there almost all my life, so moving down here was a bit difficult, leaving friends, my fav eateries, fun things to do, the diversity, etc etc etc. I felt if I didn't write any yelp reviews, I would stay true to my SF roots. Well, it's time to change all that now. I have found some great places, and some not so great places to eat, to shop, to hang out at. I am still missing Chinatown, Japantown, and all the small out of the way places to by ethnic spices, etc., but it is getting better. The people of Oceanside are friendly and nice. The town is quaint, beaches lovely. I just wish people would pick up their trash as they leave, and dog owners pick up their dogs poop. The weather is lovely and we are a short 15 min. walk to the Strand. So I am embracing Oceanside, PB, OB, and all of San Diego. After all, I live here now and we are homeowners! read more

Oceanside is a pretty nice place. It's not a wealthy city but a humble military town. The beach and pier are places we visit regurally because it's reasonably safe (yes, there are homeless but not too bad). Parking north of the pier is metered but there seems to be open spots most of the time. Some of the tasty places that I've tried in Oceanside are The Privateer Coal Fire Pizza and Terri Cafe. Both fine for families. Their Harbor area is worth a stop if you're looking to go on a whale watching excursion or a 1/2 day fishing trip. There are also plenty of casual and nice dining options available, many of which serve seafood. - Homeless issues. Metrolink. Purchased tickets from Oceanside to San Juan last Saturday on my phone only to be told they are not stopping in San Juan due to the Swallows Parade. That is why we were going. After being offered a bus ride to San Clemente ????, how would we get to San Juan. We drove. I emailed Metrolink and was told they do not give refunds because of track maintenance which also confused me. How am I suppose to know about maintenance if they don't. I thought the Senior rate of $9 each was a great deal but I expect to make it to my destination. I'll see what they say to my 2nd email and in the meantime I contacted my credit card company. I'm starting to think Texas Roadhouse is simply a terrible company. This location refuses to take orders over the phone or they give substantial and passive aggressive push back when trying to place an order (e.g. placing me on hold for 15+ minutes) or hanging up on me when I requested to speak with the manager on duty (Kristin, according to what I was told) and pretending as though it wasn't intentional. If you ever have an issue and reach out to their customer service, don't expect to get a reply. Pretty sure I'm going to have to find a new steakhouse and will encourage my friends and family to do the same. read more

A lot of folks here seem to enjoy owning and driving really loud cars, and even louder motorcycles, that emit a lot of exhaust. Also, when bycling up the 101 from La Jolla(Del Mar when I'm lazy), I turn right back around and head south at the "Welcome to Oceanside" sign. For Cyclists, The 101 is much more dangerous in Oceanside...terrible drivers! read more

Oceanside is pretty nice and the weather is fantastic. The downtown area is where all the action is at. There are tons of restaurants to choose from like Ty's burger house, The Long Boarder, Petite Madeline & Swamis. There's also lots of tourists shops where you can buy shirts, magnets, hats and so on. On Thursdays in the morning there is a farmers market and in the evening there is the sun set market. The sunset market is really crowded but they have great food and merchandise to buy. If you do not like dogs did not go to the sunset market. It's pretty nice to see all the dogs there getting along. Oceanside may not be the prettiest place or the safest place but if you know where you're going you should be okay. Some areas in Oceanside you should probably stay away from like the valley areas of Libby Lake and Mesa margarita. Also I would stay away from the Crown Heights area which is behind Oceanside High School and let's not forget posole which is right off the 5 and Mission Ave. The downtown area does have homeless people asking for money so be careful of that too. Some places that you really should try are The Succulent cafe, the pier, Inner World, Swamis and Buddy Todd Park which has great views. read more

Oceanside reminds me of Huntington Beach pre 1990's. It's small quaint town with a lot of older small cottage type homes. I come here to visit a friend that lives here. They have a lot of small touristy type shops and some unique too Watch out for the Pendleton boys. :D read more

We came to Oceanside for the day. Did not go to the Pier and I'm not sure where we were in relation to the Pier but the beach was very nice. Not over crowded, just enough people there to make it feel festive. The beach did have a lot of seaweed on the sand but that didn't bother us too much. My hubby and son had a great time playing in the ocean water even though it was cold and my son learned to use his boogie board for the first time. Overall, an enjoyable beach experience. read more

I love the beach and downtown area not real touristy yet the beach is right across the Main Street. It's all pay parking but it's only a short walk to the beach and actually you can visit from LA on a train for a few hours the train station is right there. The beach is clean and there's lots of lifeguards and police walking the boardwalk. read more

Being a beach city, I was expecting to love Oceanside. We stayed here for awhile deciding if it would be a place to move to if my husband accepts a job at Camp Pendelton. I thought there was a ton of traffic, not enough good food or shopping for my taste and the beach not as pretty as others in the area. That being said it is off the places of wanting to live at, but none the less a pretty Southern California city, right on the water, all of those are A-OK in my book! read more

The houses and stores are fairly close to the water, and there are a lot of good places to walk or go running or biking. I love Oside. Moved here from Tacoma, WA and to me this place is paradise. Im by the beach and love it. Thursday nights are poppin downtown by the movie theaters on Mission. They have a street fair that night with amazing food thats a good variety. If u read reviews about the beach being gross with garbage on it thats cause the people who come and visit leave it there. I just had the absolute worst pizza that I've ever had in the whole of my life. I didn't open the box when I picked it up, but should have. It as burnt, and tasted like it had been sitting around for a while and then reheated. When we tried to pick up a piece, it fell apart because not only had it not been cut into even slices, it was strips and chunks and not even cut all the way through. They must not have had a pizza wheel. It tasted just like it looked and after paying $15 for it that's what prompted me to write this review. It was Domino's on Douglas Street in Oceanside. I'll never go there again and wanted to warn everyone that if you do, make sure you open the box and check that you're getting what you ordered. The last time I was went there, I ordered a pepperoni pizza and when I got home, I found that I'd been given a plain cheese pizza with no meat on it. Ocean side is the place to go in San Diego if you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This place is pretty laid back. It's fun. It's family oriented. We came here Sunday night on October to escape the first week of California heatwaves. We parked our RV, and enjoyed the night out walking the pier. There's a lot of fishing going on the pier. There's a bait store in the middle and there's the Ruby Tuesday burger at the end. The people were very friendly and just enjoying fishing. From down below, you can see surfers catching the waves at night. It was pretty impressive. This place is also kid friendly. There's a playground with two jungle gyms. Boy Oceanside what a fun town. everything about this town I love except for the traffic it is very busy. They have nice restaurants obviously is Oceanside and plenty of shopping. If you want to go hiking or walk on the beach those options are available or you can go walk on the pier. My favorite is to walk or run on the pier during sunset or sunrise, its so serene. The boardwalk is very nice as well along with all the little restaurants. if you are going to come visit or go on vacation I would suggest waiting until after school season starts that way you can get into place is a little bit easier without lines all over the place. Oceanside is definitely my favorite city in Northern San Diego County. It's got a cool downtown by the beach full of small businesses. There's many mid rise apartments and beach town homes on the beachfront. The Oceanside Transit center has frequent Trains going Everywhere in Southern California. The beach is also nice here. They have a nice bike path on the beach where you can rent many different types of bikes. The pier is a nice place to watch the waves roll by after a long day. It's nice how it's very walkable with everything being close together on the beach / downtown area. I would definitely choose Oceanside over Carlsbad or Encinitas everyday. read more

Highs: -The last relatively affordable beach city in San Diego county -Very safe -Incredible access to all amenities: public transit (Amtrak, Sprinter, Coaster, Breeze), food (Teri Cafe, Thai Table, Flying Pig, That Boy Good), shopping (Target), groceries (Trader Joe's), beer (Stone, Bagby) -Thursday morning Farmer's Market -Thursday evening Sunset Market (a wild and crazy food and music festival every week) -Crowded Pier and Strand beach area -Free parking at the Pier slash downtown -Renovated Mission Ave looks great but hasn't attracted enough patrons for its restaurants -More diverse than other SD county beach cities probably due to its affordability -Access to MiraCosta Community College -Ease of access to San Diego, Temecula and Orange County -Clean beach with gold, glittering sand Lows: -Pacific highway strip is still grungy with rims shops, auto audio install, used car dealerships, homeless people, loiterers creating an all around uncomfortable ambiance after dark -Breeze bus stops are frequently UNCOVERED causing skin blisters on hot days -Some really bad beer (Legacy) -Thursday evening Sunset Market has become so big and wild that sometimes I am scared for my dog's life so can no longer take him -Lots of kids skateboarding around downtown including doing "olies" or whatever over my head on the stairs leading up to the Regal movie theater -Unknown, bizarre harbor and lighthouse area could be greatly improved to attract more locals instead of tourists -Bad traffic along the 78 during rush hour read more

I have been to different Sizzlers quite a few and found the food was just average and the price was equal to the food. Yesterday I went to the Sizzlers in Oceanside. What a surprise.. I ordered the rib eye steak. It was expensive but well worth the price. It was 14 oz and it was cooked to perfection. When I received the steak the waitress ask me if I would like to cut into it to be sure it was what I wanted. Nobody has ever asked me that before. Wow, what service. It came with a fully load potato , rolls and cheese bread. This dinner has out matched the steak houses I have been too. I am not sure if all the others are following this Sizzlers but they should. As a native from Oceanside this review is biased, but how could I not, for such a beautiful city? Although there are some new buildings and now one-way streets, the pier, beach, & harbor are still great attractions. Check out the Harbor fish & chips, Ruby's, Colimas, and La Perla Tapatía for some Mexican sweets! You can also check out the Farmer's Market on Thursday mornings or at night that is filled with cool local organic goodies. The public library is really nice and abundant in books and movies as well. If you're in the military & need a haircut, stop by Stud Cuts (they've been there for many years & it can get packed on the weekends). Finally, don't forget to check out the Top Gun house on Pacific St., it's pretty cool that it's still there after so many years. read more
